He listened carefully to her words, hearing the pain in her voice. He was glad when she gave up on the subject. But, when she spoke of his wife, he could only remember back to what had happened to cause everything.
" No, she wasn't a prisoner or anything. It happened because she pissed him off one night at a bar where she worked. He tried to hit on her, it didn't go to well. She ended up getting fired for throwing a beer glass at his face, and she cut him pretty badly. That night when she came home, she said she wanted to go out, to get it off her mind. So I took her out for dinner and a show. Well now I realize what happened, he had followed us all night. Waiting for a good time to strike. He had three people grab me, and two grab her. He had his way with her, then killed her. Afterwards, they bound and gagged me and threw me in the big sewer ways that go under the bridge on the north side of town. It took four hours for the police to find me. I was unconcious when they found me, I guess someone must have untied me, because I was covered up and dry... " His eyes trailed from her back to the food. He didn't seem depressed about it, it was as if he had told the story many times.
After he told her this, he began pulling food from the pans to the plates. Two of them he had set out after starting up the hashbrowns. The meals were actually quite large. He doubted she could eat it all, but atleast it was a nice homemade breakfast. He didn't know anyone who could turn this down, ofcourse he would understand if she did though. He then brought the plates to the counter, there were barstools next to it, so that they could just sit there and eat. He set a plate next to her along with some silverware.
" If you don't need to eat, or you can't really eat it, then don't worry about it. I do it out of habit along with hospitality. I guess you could say i'm not that used to having guests. But, please don't take that anyway negative. Your welcome up here as long as you want. Try to think of me as your neighbor, not as your protector or bodygaurd.. ", He said this with a small smile before he took the first bite of the breakfast, and he couldn't lie to himself. It was absolutely wonderful.
