Why so friendly?

He listened carefully to her words, hearing the pain in her voice. He was glad when she gave up on the subject. But, when she spoke of his wife, he could only remember back to what had happened to cause everything.

" No, she wasn't a prisoner or anything. It happened because she pissed him off one night at a bar where she worked. He tried to hit on her, it didn't go to well. She ended up getting fired for throwing a beer glass at his face, and she cut him pretty badly. That night when she came home, she said she wanted to go out, to get it off her mind. So I took her out for dinner and a show. Well now I realize what happened, he had followed us all night. Waiting for a good time to strike. He had three people grab me, and two grab her. He had his way with her, then killed her. Afterwards, they bound and gagged me and threw me in the big sewer ways that go under the bridge on the north side of town. It took four hours for the police to find me. I was unconcious when they found me, I guess someone must have untied me, because I was covered up and dry... " His eyes trailed from her back to the food. He didn't seem depressed about it, it was as if he had told the story many times.

After he told her this, he began pulling food from the pans to the plates. Two of them he had set out after starting up the hashbrowns. The meals were actually quite large. He doubted she could eat it all, but atleast it was a nice homemade breakfast. He didn't know anyone who could turn this down, ofcourse he would understand if she did though. He then brought the plates to the counter, there were barstools next to it, so that they could just sit there and eat. He set a plate next to her along with some silverware.

" If you don't need to eat, or you can't really eat it, then don't worry about it. I do it out of habit along with hospitality. I guess you could say i'm not that used to having guests. But, please don't take that anyway negative. Your welcome up here as long as you want. Try to think of me as your neighbor, not as your protector or bodygaurd.. ", He said this with a small smile before he took the first bite of the breakfast, and he couldn't lie to himself. It was absolutely wonderful.

Elayne had realized after her question that maybe she shouldn't have asked. It was true that he had mentioned his wife's death more than once, but she knew that the topic might be taboo for her to bring up. Even though she was curious and wanted to know what his wife had to do with Him, she didn't want to pain Todd by asking. Still, he didn't seem to upset by her question and answered without protest. She listened as he described what had happened, soon looking down as the story progressed. It all sounded horribly similar to what had happened to her, but instead of being killed she had been blinded and dragged off to that awful house. Most of the time, she had wished He would just kill her and stop the torture. It had seemed like a sweet escape at the time, but now she was thankful that he hadn't because she was getting another chance at living.

"I'm sorry," she offered quietly. It wasn't her fault in any way, shape or form, but she still felt bad that he had to suffer that pain. She knew he couldn't be as over it as he sounded while speaking and must be in a lot of pain. Anybody would be.

She looked at the plate that he set in front of her. There was no denying that the food looked delicious. She picked up her fork and scooped up a piece of egg, munching on it cautiously. First impression was right, it was wonderful. She relaxed a little more and took another bite, enjoying having a meal of something other than blood. Some vampires were different, but she had found a love of human food. She used to eat it as often as humans did, and just have a drink of blood at some point during the day to keep her alive. That's all she really needed, and the human food was so yummy that she just couldn't resist.

"This is delicious," she commmented as she paused after another bite, then looked over at him with a slight smile. "I don't really know how neighbors are supposed to act," she admitted quietly, though she assumed it was more like friends than not. A friend. It felt nice to have somebody that actually fit in that category.

After finishing his meal, he rose and gave a great stretch. He could feel a few of the joints in his back popping, and the release in the tension felt good. He yawned softly once more, probably the last one he had in him. After he scratched his head softly once more, he took his plate to the sink and set it in. He rinsed off the food and let it sit. The cleanin lady was due in a couple days, so he wouldn't worry about it. The one thing he was worried about were the papers that he was supposed to recieve. During the little incident downstairs, he had totally forgotten about them.

He was vigorously looking around the apartment, when he noticed a manilla envelope on his counter, where he usually set his keys. He quickly looked inside, and was relieved to find all of her information. These papers had to be made before they could do anything for her, and he was glad they now had them. He placed the papers back in the envelope and handed it over to her.

" Well Elayne, theres your new identity, you have everything you need to prove who you are now. So even if we run into any trouble that doesn't relate with him. Atleast we'll be ready. ", he finished this statement with a small smile. Afterwards, he walked over to his computer, flipped open the screen and pressed the power key. The computer hummed to life, and as it was booting up he walked back over to the girl.

" So now that you have your own life, would you like to celebrate a little? We can do whatever you want. It's still a little early too. ", he leaned against the counter as he did, letting his head rest upon his hand as he propped it up on the counter.

Managing to eat about half of the meal before she was too full to even force down another bite, she pushed the plate aside and laid a hand on her stomach. It was an odd feeling, to be this incredibly full. She actually smiled a little because it felt so nice. Sliding down from the stool, she stretched just to give the food more room to settle into, then wandered over to his window and peeked out. It was a different view than hers, and that fascinated her for a few moments until she heard him moving around. Turning curiously, she watched him seeming to search for something until he picked up an envelope from the counter and peered inside.

She wasn't expecting him to hand it to her, but she took it and peeked in too. Papers, documents, everything she would need. There was even a passport in there with her new name on it. Surprised at the speed but grateful, she nodded and closed the envelope up, carrying it with her as she watched him boot up his computer. She blinked at his question and tilted her head a fraction.

"How does one celebrate having a new life?" she asked curiously. How did one celebrate at all? When was the last time she had something to be happy about before now? It seemed like never. "I'll be right back, I'm going to put this away," she said after a moment, tapping the envelope.

She was thinking to herself the entire time that she left his flat and walked down the hallway, curious about what people did to celebrate. Of course she knew about parties, but that hardly seemed appropriate and she didn't really want to meet new people yet. It wasn't until she was unlocking the door to her flat and stepping inside that it struck her how easily she had slipped into this life. She had been tormented for over a year, and yet she felt almost completely relaxed here. Her eyes roamed over her bedroom as she set the envelope on a dresser. It felt like.. home. The only place she had and the only place she really wanted. Absently she wondered if it would have been so easy to adjust if it had been somebody other than Todd helping her.

Sitting on the edge of her bed, she pulled on her socks and shoes so that she wouldn't be barefoot anymore. Celebrate.. Maybe she really should. She had a name now, an identity, and.. a friend. Standing up again, she wandered back out of her bedroom and out the door, locking doors as she went before putting her keys back in her pocket. She made her way back upstairs and nearly walked into Todd's door without knocking. Catching herself, she knocked twice and waited for him to answer. Once he did, she looked up at him.

"I'd like to go outside," she said quietly, then hesitated and met his eyes. "With you," she added.

Todd was actually really suprised about her words, he didn't think she would want to do anything. Not like he had a problem with that, this was just a suprise. He nodded softly and smiled.

" Let me grab my keys real quick.. " After he said this, he quickly turned around to grab his keys out of the little bowl on his counter. He then grabbed his jacket off of the small hanger on the wall and locked the flat up. He was still smiling as they walked down the hallway. He didn't know what to say either, he felt a little akward, because it had been quite some time since he was last was a woman, and even though it wasn't that kind of situation, he still felt a bit sweaty. It wouldn't bother him though, he finally decided. He still had to remember that they were going outside, where he couldn't control the environment around them. It made him a little tense, but he knew if she saw him all worked up that it would probably worry her, or throw her into a paranoia of some kind.

They made there way to the basement floor via the elevator, as they walked out they could see a few cars parked along the wall. He knew exactly who's they were, and he also knew the security gaurd would be changing shifts here in about a half hour. He escorted her to the car, which was a beautiful 2012 model Mercedes. He was so proud of this car, this was the one thing that he owned which actually held any sentimentel value to him. Everything else was simply for work.

He opened her door, letting her get comfortable before he decided to close it, then he hurried over to the other side. After getting in and closing the door, he pressed a small button on the center console and the car purred to life. He smiled softly in happiness as he listened to the car. Engines were also one of his hobbies. He loved taking them apart piece by peice, cleaning them, then putting it back together in the same order. It was one of the only things that truly put him to piece. Because, it was meticulous and it took time, which he normally had plenty of.

They made there way out of the parking garage, the security gaurd waving to them as they left. They traveled down 12th st for a bit, the streets lights casting strange shadows across the dash. Looking up through the sun roof while at a stop light, he realized he didn't even know where they were going, but then ofcourse she didn't either.

" So...do you have any type of place you wanna go? A restaraunt, or a movie? We can do anything you want, promise, all on me tonight. ", he finished these words with a big reassuring smile. He wanted her to have a good time tonight, to actually have fun tonight. He figured she hadn't actually been able to enjoy herself for a long time, and he would make sure things went beautifully.

Elayne nodded and watched him get his keys and jacket, then followed him down the hall and into the elevator. Once they emerged, the looked all around, her gaze landing on the cars. Her eyes roamed over the Mercedes that he led her to, sliding into the seat as she instinctively looked in the back seat to make sure it was empty. It was, of course. She turned back around and waited for him to close the door, then buckled her seat belt. This was it, she was actually outside. Well, inside the outside. Oddly enough she didn't feel anxious yet, but then again she was in a nice little enclosed space with Todd. She looked over at him once they were driving down the road and gave him a small smile.

"I really like this car, it's nice. I used to enjoy cars, I think. Speed is addicting," she said quietly, then tried to think about what she wanted to do. She wasn't all that hungry yet since she had just stuffed herself with his delicious cooking, so she dismissed the restaurant idea for now. A movie? What was even playing? She tried to consider how she'd react in a theater, examining her feelings to see how it might go. Standing in a line of people would be hard, but once inside it might be okay. It'd be dark but they could sit at the back with nobody behind them, just a wall. Plus she could see really well in the dark, compared to humans at least.

"A movie sounds nice. Is anything good playing?" she asked, looking over at him, managing to stay relaxed so far.

[I have no excuses for length x.x]

Her smile was what was getting to him, he knew that now, and not in a bad way either. Her smile brought up a feeling he hadn't felt for a long time. The warm feeling you get in your chest when your close to someone you care for, hell you can get the feeling just by hearing they're name. He returned the smile, and he didn't let it fade as he listened to her words. A movie would be nice, and it just so happened there was a nice quiet movie that was being featured. It had also been out for a few weeks, so the theater would probably be abandoned. As he made a left, he instinctively checked his rear view mirror. There were a couple cars behind him, and the one at the back was what he was looking for.

He had one of his men trail them just incase. He didn't need her to know, because he didn't want her to think something was wrong. He just liked to be cautious. As they came upon the theatre, he first checked the parking lot, which was empty. The front spots were taken up by a couple cars, but they were probably just staff. He made another left into the parking lot, and parked the car a few spots from the exit. It would be easier to leave that way if they needed to. He then shut the car off, and looked over to her. He didn't know why, perhaps sub-consciously he told himself too, maybe just out of need. Her face calmed him, and he couldn't explain why, not just her face, but just her being next to him had some kind of calming effect on his soul.

He then realized that she probably thought he was a creep for staring, and he quickly regained his composure. A light blush rose to his cheeks as he turned to open the door, he quickly let it fade by the time he reached her door. Before he opened it though, he checked the other side of the street where the other car was parked. The man behind the window nodded once and then looked back down at his passenger seat. He was probably watching a satelite image of the area, so he would know about anyone before they knew about him. Todd's team was his secret weapon, the type of training they held made them nearly invisible, and he loved them for it.

After opening her door, he offered her a hand to let her out. " So this is your first time actually being out. How's it going so far? Everything going alright? ", he knew he probably sounded a bit pushy, but he wanted to make sure that everything was going perfect so far.

[Don't sweat it, thats been the shortest post so far lol, no worries <3]

As they turned to change direction, she watched the scenery go by. To a person who went out and about every day, there wasn't really much to see. The same thing you saw anywhere you drove. Yet to her it was all incredibly special, like it was something she was getting to experience for the very first time. She saw people going by, mostly in couples but a few in larger groups or alone. One girl had a pair of headphones on and was dancing down the street to her own rhythm, oblivious to the world around her as her lips moved. Elayne assumed she was singing along, and wished she had that kind of self confidence to just lose herself out in public like that. In a flash, her gaze flicked to a group of guys pushing each other around playfully and laughing about some joke that she would never know. Everybody just seemed so free and careless, like they had no idea the horrors that life could hold.

She looked back over at Todd for a moment, then at the theater as they pulled in. It looked faintly familiar, but honestly she wasn't sure. When she had been captured, she had been in this city for about a week. At the time she hadn't been in the habit of staying in one place for too long, it was too risky for feeding and such. She pulled her thoughts back to the present as the car died to silence, her gaze once again moving to Todd. Something in his expression made her smile at him, and she nearly asked what was the matter, but then he seemed to snap out of it and got out. Faintly amused, she watched his figure walk around the car.

As he opened her door, she took his hand stepped out and aside so that he could close it again. The parking lot was nearly empty, which soothed her slightly anxious senses. Instinctively she stepped close to him and nearly took his hand again, but she didn't quite dare. His questions made her examine her own thoughts again, but this time she came up with the answer fairly quickly.

"I have no complaints. I just hope that doesn't work the same as saying 'it can't get any worse' and then having it start to rain or a piano fall from the sky," she said quietly, a smile playing around her lips.

Suddenly she realized something. They were going to be going into a public place run by humans. Chances were somebody was going to notice her eyes - it was kind of hard not to unless she stared at the floor the whole time since they were a brilliant shade of red. She concentrated for a moment after holding up a finger at Todd to get him to wait for a second. It took more effort than it used to, but slowly her irises faded to a dark green color. The more different than red, the harder it was, but light colors were especially difficult. Tonight she did an easy one, and it only took about a minute. Feeling the change, she looked up at Todd and tilted her head slightly.

"Do I look better now?"

Todd smirked softly as he looked down on her, " You look wonderful. ", he said this softly, and he didn't even realize it. He was to buisy thinkinf of a thousand other words he could use to describe her beauty. After the smirk faded softly, he walked with her into the movie theatre, this time he made a point to walk beside her instead of in front of her. At the ticket booth, they both bought tickets, and made there way inside. Still stuffed from the breakfast they had, he stopped at the booth to order a couple drinks. Nothing fancy, just a couple cola's to sip on during the movie.

After they bought there drinks, they made they're way towards the theatre. There were only two playing right now, and it seemed that the theatre was at an all time low, because the theatre they were in was completely empty. He liked it this way though, and he was sure she did too. They took a seat at the back wall, there was only a few seats here and they would be able to see anyone who came in as well. The atmosphere was also nice, he had always loved how quiet and warm theatres seemed, and he thought it was a good first night out for Elayne too.

Soon the previews for the movie started, and he began to remember the last time he was here, but quickly pushed the thought away. " So, I have no idea if this is going to be a good movie or not, but I'll enjoy it either way. I haven't been out of the house in a while, and it's really nice to have some company too. ", as he said this he smiled softly. After the comment, he realized how badly he wanted to hold her hand all of a sudden. He knew it was the situation more than anything, but he couldn't help but feel like some school kid with a highschool crush, and he couldn't lie to himself, he was really enjoying it.

[Kinda short]

For some reason, when he said she looked wonderful, a faint rosy blush colored her pale cheeks. She looked down nervously, then turned and walked with him toward the door of the theater. The fact that he walked next to her wasn't lost on her, and she very nearly fell back just so that she could trail along behind him like she usually did. With an act of will, however, she managed to remain beside him and not even get too anxious about not being able to watch him constantly. It was odd to not have to act like he was better than she was, but it was slowly getting easier. She didn't really take a long line at the boy behind the ticket counter, or the girl who gave them their sodas, but at the same time she wasn't fidgeting and panicking. It was more that she was shy and quiet and didn't dare to meet the gaze of anybody except Todd.

She moved with him into the theater and took the seat to his left, her eyes sweeping the theater. Not a single person except for themselves. Her anxiety began to fade and she relaxed in her seat, holding her soda with both hands as she sipped it. After a moment she set it aside in the cupholder and put her hands in her lap just to give them a place to be. As Todd spoke, she looked up at him and smiled.

"Really?" she couldn't help but ask, rather surprised that he appeared to be craving company just as badly as she had been. She looked up at the screen and watched as a flashy preview for a romantic comedy played. It was the same as every other romantic comedy on the planet at first, but then it cut to a scene of the guy looking flabbergasted as the woman tried to explain how she had managed to burn ice cream. Elayne blinked and laughed, the sound a quiet giggle like a soft ringing of a bell. Surprised by the sound even though she was the one who made it, she automatically clasped a hand over her lips and looked up at Todd. "Have you ever burned ice cream?" she asked him in a serious tone, though her eyes betrayed her amusement.

[Kinda short too, but now I'm laughing too much to add more :x]

Todd laughed with her whenever the preview was over, it was quite cute. Her laugh though, was like an delicious liquor. He didn't ever want to quit drinking it in. As he listened to her question, he thought she was serious at first, but then he met her gaze and saw the sarcasm. " Well, there was this one time.. ", he cut the line off quickly to insinuate that it was just a joke, and he quietly chuckled. After that comment, the screen brightened, and then dimmed again. The movie was about to start.

Suddenly a giant explosion filled the screen, and a war was breaking out. Todd was a bit amused by this, it was a change in scenery, and the scenery here was beautiful. After thinking this to himself, he caught a glance at Elayne. If he had a choice, he would sit and just take her in. Her scent, her body, her face. Everything about her was magical to him, and it seemed unatainable. He knew that was a ridiculous thought, but still the thought of not being able to have her tore him apart inside.

He pushed the thought away as he rose the straw from his coke to his lips and sipped. The cola was refreshing, he hadn't had anything to drink since the orange juice during breakfast. After setting his drink down, he accidentally rubbed his arm against hers, and he quickly retreated. What was he doing? He felt like a damn grade schooler sitting next to this woman. She tore him down emotionally and she didn't even have to do anything. What the hell was his problem? He was usually so serious, so strong, so dedicated to his goals. But, here he was, hoping at some point in time that night that he would get to hold hands with this gorgeous woman. He felt silly, but he slowly got used to the feeling.

Elayne actually thought he was serious for a moment until he stopped and chuckled. She giggled a little and shook her head at his tease, then looked back at the screen as the movie started. The explosion made her squeak quietly in surprise but she wasn't scared, just startled. Her eyes grew wide as she watched the follow up explosions that accompanied the opening credits, her gaze darting all around the screen since several things were going on at once. She was so wrapped up in the movie that she didn't even realize Todd was looking at her. After a few minutes she reached for her soda, but she reached the opposite way of where it was and brushed against his hand at the same time that he brushed her arm.

Looking down in surprise, she blinked and retreated just as fast as he did, then smiled at him and whispered a quick apology. She glanced to her other side and located the lost soda, sipping at it as she looked back up at the screen. The main character was being introduced, with the traditional sappy back story about why he was the badass he was today. Holding her soda in one hand, she absently chewed on the end of the straw, entertaining herself by poking several holes in it with her fangs. When she was done, she took a sip and got a huge mouthful of soda from the multitude of holes. Smiling at herself, she kept her eyes on the movie for another minute or two, then glanced over at Todd again.

He was looking at the screen, so she took the opportunity to just watch him for a minute. It was strange to her, how much she felt that she could trust him already. She knew that it was his job to make her feel protected and that he had sworn to do so, but it was still unexpected that he had already managed it. How long had it been, three days since she escaped? So short, yet so much had happened. She realized that she was getting lost in thought and quickly looked back at the screen, resuming her straw munching.

"I bet he falls in love with her and she rejects him, but then they end up together despite some sort of huge conflict that involves the war," she commented as a female was introduced, obviously gorgeous. Elayne looked back over at Todd with a smile, summing up every movie she had ever seen, basically.

" I bet your exactly right, I bet money on it. These types of movies are way to predictable now a days. ", he chuckled softly at the comment, he knew it to be true as well. As he continued to watch, he slowly moved a bit over in his seat, resting his arm on the rest next to him. His arm was now actually touching hers, and he could feel the warmth from her skin, and he loved it. He actually started to get a bit nervous, thinking that she was going to jerk back, or tell him to back off. He was actually worried about it, that he would be rejected just for scooting over.

When was the last time he was worried about something like this? It had to of been years, it was ridiculous, but he loved it. He felt like he actually had somewhat of a normal life again. Here he was, sitting here in an empty movie theatre, with a gorgeous woman. Normally if they had been kids they would have probably already been back behind the seats where no one could hear or see them. He smirked softyl, letting a small chuckle escape his lips as he thought of this. Suddenly, there was another explosion on the screen, and he noticed another little squeak come from Elayne. It was cute, and he loved it. He hoped that at some point in time during the movie that it would happen again, just so he could hear that squeak.

He reached down to his pager and phone, noticing they were still on. He silenced the phone, and the pager. If anything were going to happen, it would just have to wait. If it was truly urgent, someone would just come get him. But, the only thing that was important to him, was this girl next to him. Which suprised him, he hadn't cared for anyone since his wife's death. He pushed that thought quickly to the side, he didn't need to sit there and wallow in the past. His wife would want him to move on with his life, so that he was happy.

So, at that moment, he decided he was going to move on, he wasn't going to let his past run his life anymore.

Elayne smiled and nodded as he agreed, discreetly glancing down when she felt his arm against hers. It made her really want to slide her hand into his, but she didn't dare. Physical touches still made her anxious to think about for the most part. Somehow she knew that if she did do it, she wouldn't mind, just because it was Todd. That thought confused her since she didn't understand why she would feel that way, but maybe it was just because she felt safe with him. She decided that must be it and pushed the thought away, though she couldn't completely rid herself of the nagging desire to touch him more.

Her focus drifted back up to the screen for a few moments until she heard Todd chuckle. Curious, since there hadn't been any humor in the move, she glanced at him with a puzzled expression. Before she could ask, the explosion boomed from the movie and she squeaked, looking back up at the flashy effects in surprise. Blinking a couple of times, she looked back at Todd and caught his smile.

"You'd better not be making fun of me in your head for squeaking, it was your fault for distracting me," she accused quietly, smiling at him. She watched him pull out his pager and phone, thinking for one panicked moment that something was wrong before she saw him put them both away again. He didn't seem distracted so maybe it was for nothing, but she wasn't sure. "Is something wrong?" she asked, unable to contain her curiosity and the need to sate her anxiety as she tilted her head a fraction at him.

Just then the door swung open and she flinched, turning to see a single figure come in and sit down a few rows ahead of them, off to the side. It struck her as odd for somebody to come in to a movie so late, and she instinctively laid a hand on Todd's arm, trying to relax.

Todd smirked softly and put a hand up, not his right hand, but his left. He didn't want to break away from the contact. " No, no, ofcourse not. ", he said softly, noticing how she spoke of a distraction. The only thing he could think of was his arm. He smiled softly, loving the fact that it distracted her from the movie. That meant only one thing, and he loved it.

Suddenly he noticed the man walking down the aisle, and seating himself at the end of the row. There were two things he didn't like about this situation. First off, the man was at the end. Which meant that if he had to make a move, he wouldn't have any obstacles inbetween them, secondly, he didn't like the fact that a quarter of the movie was already over. Brian watched him for a moment, not him exactly, but his aura. And then, suddenly he caught it. That one bit of malicious intent, that small flash of red that seemed to float from the top of the aura and dissipate into the air above him.

" Excuse me for a moment.. ", he said this in a cheery voice, and he squeezed her hand with his before he rose, to reassure her of the situation. Then he suddenly felt his pager vibrate. That was the only confirmation he needed. He walked down the aisle, reaching behind his back and under his jacket, not for a gun, but just for the thought. Suddenly the man rose, and turned to him, pulling a gun almost instantly.

" Listen, you have no idea who your dealing with, and it would be so much easier if you would just hand her over.... ", the man was dead serious, there was no humor in his voice, or sarcasm. Brian expected this, and he also expected the shot that came a few seconds later. He easily stepped to the side a split second before the man pulled the trigger. This guy was way to anxious, Brian could basically read his every move. As soon as he heard the click of the chamber, he was on the man. Pulling the gun down, and out of his hand. He then broke the mans neck. As if it was nothing, without a single thought the man was dead.

" We need to leave.. ", he was at her side before the man could even hit the floor, and he led her out. Police were already outside, and he instantly pulled her close to him. " I'm sorry officers, heres my card, but I have to get her to the hospital, she's in shock. ", and without another glance, they were both out of there. His man was waiting in the parking lot, his car doors alerady open and the engine started. Brian put her in the back seat, closed the door, and joined his man in the front. As soon as the door closed, he ripped off down to the opposite end of the parking lot, there was an exit there into the back alley. As they turned, Brian looked down the road, where a couple more of his men blocked the only entrance to that alley.

They quickly made there way onto the freeway an into traffic, where the black sedan easily camoflauged itself in the mass of vehicles.

When Todd excused himself, Elayne just looked up at him, trying to hide her anxiety. She really wanted to plead with him to not leave her side, but she bit her lip and just nodded a little as she watched him approach the man who had just entered the theater. Not even caring about the movie anymore, her eyes flicked between one man and the other, until suddenly the stranger stood and pulled a gun. She flinched and stood up rapidly, knocking her soda over onto the floor with a faint crash of ice. Her thoughts were torn between the desire to flee and the urge to stay with Todd and make sure that he was going to be alright and not get hurt just for her sake.

As the man spoke, she knew that he was referring to her. Of course this was all about her. When the shot went off, she gasped and her hands clasped over her lips in alarm as she cried out. Somehow, though, Todd was fine and the man was falling to the ground. When he came back to her, she managed to nod and walk with him out of the theater even thought her mind was reeling and her knees were shaking.

Thankfully she was primed for the role of shocked victim. Wide eyes filled with panicked terror and anxiety, pale skin, quivering slightly, an absolute unwillingness to get more than a few inches away from Todd. It was no wonder the police didn't bother yelling at them to stay put. She didn't resist as he guided her into the backseat of a car, sitting and buckling with automatic movements before the car took off.

She leaned back against the seat and curled her legs up in front of her, her arms wrapped tightly around them and the side of her head resting on her knees. Her gaze was focused out the window, watching the buildings and cars fly by as they made their way onto the freeway. Silent tears filled her eyes and she shifted, resting her forehead on her knees instead and trying to stop her shaking since she knew it was pointless.

"Maybe it'd be easier if you just did what he said," she said in a broken whisper, hating the fact that he was in danger just for her.
