What is your worst rp experience?

And then an experience I had recently in Iwaku. We set things up for having a one on one mxm libertine, romantic roleplay. Several pages in, there was no romance at sight, except for that between one of my partner's characters and an uninteresting female NPC. I don't like reading hetero romance. My life is quite normal, yet my own story with my boyfriend is far more interesting to me than most hetero romances I've read. Hetero romance is bland and uninteresting for me. Don't force me to read it. Ew.
This made me think of something! Though I make it abundantly clear (at least I think so) that I have no interest in straight romance, I still get people either adamantly requesting that I role-play it with them or trying to trick me into it. Like, why? There are so many willing m/f role-players out there, why do you need to try and convince someone who isn't interested at all? "Isn't there anything that can change your mind?" No! I'm not straight, I don't want to role-play straight romances. Stop trying to pressure me. >:[

Also, the reason that I'm hesitant to role-play f/f with men is because of the number of guys I've had asking to do lesbian romance with me and being totally skeevy and voyeuristic OOC, as well as unrealistic IC. Basically all they learned about lesbian romance was from porn, or at least that's the way it seemed to me. I know not every guy who role-play f/f is like this, and that maybe it's not fair to be this picky, but unless I know him, I just don't want to take the chance. :I Too many bad experiences.

I don't play f/f because I dislike female characters, period. It's strange. If a female character pops up as a NPC, she's nice. If she's a main character, then it's always the most uninteresting thing ever.

Oh no! She's in love with two men at the same time and can't decide between the two and feels like a slut! How original! Yes please, let me play the two male characters for you to live your fantasy of being so damn irresistible you have two men willing to fight over you, instead of being mature about it and step aside if you go too long without giving a clear response to them.

Aw, so your female character was raped? Yeah, no. I've been there, as all of my female friends and some male ones. I've heard of every possible way to react to rape and deal with it. No interest in carrying it over to a roleplay.

Your female character gets pregnant and that could potentially ruin her life.

@Isho13

This is a little off-topic and I hope you don't take any offense to this. I'm genuinely curious about the mentality here, because it's one that's affected a lot of my experiences as a roleplayer who is

1. male
2. plays mainly male characters
3. open to romance/smut RP
4. open to either m/f or m/m (and f/f) pairings
5. dates both girls and guys IRL

I just don't really understand why female characters or heterosexual pairings are seen as less interesting, unless it's tied directly to sexuality (i.e. being a lesbian and only interested in f/f pairings). You mention examples of bland female characters, but I've had people pull all of those scenarios in m/m RP too (including the pregnancy thing, yeah. Mpreg is strangely popular. Again, no offense intended to anyone whose boat floats that way, I just personally find Mpreg weird.)

I've played with plenty of interesting female characters and plenty of incredibly boring male ones. So I don't understand the "no het/main females" thing; why not just say "I'm not feeling this character/plot"? Or is it more acceptable to you for male characters to have certain traits/subplots?

Again, hope you don't take this as an attack. You're allowed to have whatever preferences you want, and anyone who doesn't respect when you say no to a certain thing is being an asshole.

No offence taken. I have several reasons behind my tastes.

- Maybe I've just had more luck with people roleplaying males ending up being good writers.

-I have no interest in roleplaying stuff similar to my own life. For example, I don't like slice of life roleplays and it's hard to convince me into a modern one without supernatural elements. Female characters are too close to my own life experience, who am a woman everyday, except for sundays (yay tabletop rpgs). Relationships with men and craving for relationships with women while being a woman, periods, fear of pregnancy, cat calling, being called bossy just for having a personality, mood swings because of hormones, being called a slut by assholes just for existing, other girls hating me just because I exist (not too much, luckily I've always had good friends). I've lived all of this myself. I have no interest in repeating it in a roleplay.

-When it's men roleplaying women, and they aren't perverts wanting cyber lesbian sex, they are curious about exploring that side of femininity. But I have no interest in it!

-I feel like a man from time to time. But I'll never experience it completely. I didn't have the same upbringing a man has. Culture has influenced me as if I was a woman. I have wide hips, I have periods, and I'll never have a functional cock. So I like to imagine how it'd be to grow up as a man. How they grow up, how they collide with their vulnerability, how they deal with their lust, how they get to be in power and can be strong and how they deal with things when fucking things up.

That's all that comes to mind right now. Hopes it satisfies your curiosity somehow.

That seems a bit judgemental. Not everyone that plays female characters are interested in rape/pregnancy/love triangles. I abhor rape unless I can see an actual point in the story for it and that is generally in medieval rps where it was a common occurrence, and even then I am not a fan of playing it out.

Maybe you've just been exposed to the narrow minded that believe those elements are the only true way to play a heterosexual pairing. I always play a female main character, and while there are some who are boring because of the personality I give them in the scheme of the rp, I always try to make them as interesting as I can. Not everyone wants the character to be attractive to everyone, and there is no reason at all for love triangles unless it is part of the plot. The many do not define the whole.

Just saying....don't lump everyone who enjoys hetero pairings. They are not all the same and it is a bit offensive to be considered that way.

How is it offensive if it's my own opinion over my own preferences? If you don't think the shoe fits for you, then don't get offended as I'm clearly not talking about you. I'm talking about the people I've considered roleplaying with and the romantic hetero material I've read. It's my experience.

I wasn't attacking you, so no need to jump down my throat. I am just saying. You generalized in your comment making it sound like all female characters.

Hey guys, let's all cool our jets, okay? You've both expressed your sides and it seems like no one is trying to offend anyone else.

I know this question wasn't really directed at me, but I thought I'd give my two cents on the 'no m/f romances' thing. Obviously I like f/f romance because I am a lesbian, but I also enjoy m/m romance, despite not being attracted to men at all in real life. I started exploring the idea of homosexuality with m/m slash, like a lot of young questioning girls. It was what was most widely available, and less taboo to me; I still enjoy it because of that.

ANYWAY, that's not really the point haha. Part of the reason I'm not too keen on straight romances is the fact that they're everywhere in real life. All of our media is mostly straight romance. That's understandable (though of course I'd love to see more LGBT romance that isn't contrived), because most of society is heterosexual. That's what people want to see. I just use role-playing as an escape from real life, so I don't want to see straight relationships everywhere here, too. All my characters are at the very least bisexual. In Opal land, straight romance just doesn't exist. :-D

Another reason is that - and I'm going to be brutally honest here - m/f romance just makes me uncomfortable. That's all there is to it. I wish I could elaborate on it more, and give a better idea of what kind of discomfort I'm talking about, but I don't like reading or writing it because I will always feel like I'm personally being involved in it. I especially can't handle m/f pairings where the man is extremely domineering. Can't do it, won't do it.

Either the guy who threatened me with suicide if I wasn't nicer to him. Or the PvP'r who thought he could jump into space and throw the moon. Honourable mention goes to the GM of that RP who didn't appreciate me describing my opponent bursting into flame when reentering the atmosphere.

But... Yeah. The former would only be horrible if it wasn't so obviously fake and the second was more hilarious. The frustrating experiences are limited to basic stuff and even then it's very limited. People tend to give me relatively little shit overall.

Hmm this happened to me recently on another site that does not allow sexual content. A young female and I do say young was playing with a person who had the same posting style, ideas and what not and they were doing a full on rape roleplay on the site (give an hold this will get you banned) and recently her character had become pregnant, she sent me a ten paragraph response of her character being in labor (with some very graphic descriptions and images) and my character was supposed to quote on quote "rape her and kill the unborn fetus and get her knocked up again) I blocked her messages and her account and reported her and got banned from that site in the process and then she emails me.

I was on another site and I was playing a 1 X 1. This other player was a certifiable nightmare. She didn't like the picture that I picked out for my CS and that annoyed me because it's a minor detail but the way she let me know was rude (Strike one).

When we started I played double characters and she said she would as well...she didn't when it was time for her to play another character she set it up so the other character never existed (After my previous post set it up for her...(Strike Two)).

Then she wanted to tell me what my character should be saying and how he should act towards her character (That's Strike Three).

I finally told her I wasn't RPing with her ever again...and I left the site as well. (Found my way here and much happier for it!)
