Is it weird that I never have come across porn on tumblr? I don't have any ban on those tags or anything, so it could come up, but so far I haven't stumbled across it xD It feels like it should have happened with all the fandoms I have searched on. Gets lots of random porn on deviantart though when doing ship searches. x9
Same. Given the fact that I follow a ton of Beatles blogs, and the fact that John Lennon dick pics are supposedly really easy to stumble across (or at least, that's what I've seen a lot of people saying), I'm surprised that I haven't come across any yet...
But no, the closest I ever got to seeing porn on my dash was a post where someone pointed out the fact that, in one of the Beatles movies, there's a bit of a subtle wardrobe malfunction, and if you're looking in just the right place at just the right time, you get a momentary glance at Paul's bare crotch. And, yes, that post had screenshots, but it's not like it was a very clear view. .......That is the closest thing I've ever seen to porn on my dash. XD
Tumblr is a website that a lot of people love for reasons I can't fathom because finding anything but the newest updates for a blog on Tumblr is impossible. Their archiving page is bad, scrolling to find old material is bad, I don't know why people put up with it.
Never read a webcomic being posted to a Tumblr page.
I also used to think that the organization on the site was kind of ridiculous, and had a hard time seeing the appeal. ...Then I made an account, and everything made sense.
Because the thing about Tumblr that makes it so "addicting" is the way that you can sit at your dashboard for hours and just scroll through a never-ending slew of content. Just follow people who post the kind of stuff you like, and just let yourself scroll endlessly as you look at countless relevant images, videos, and text posts, reblogging anything that you like enough to post to your
own blog, therefore giving
your followers a continuous stream of content, thus keeping the cycle going. You don't have to go out of your way to see cool things you like; the whole process requires almost zero mental effort. It's
so easy to see
so many things in such a fast-paced yet weirdly relaxed way, that any other website just feels slow and sort of dull by comparison. Closing out of Tumblr and going to a place like Iwaku is like being thrown out of a whirlpool and into a calm lake. There's practically
no new content coming in by comparison, and you actually have to put in the mental effort of looking through different forums and threads to see anything interesting. It's just...
not the same experience.
So, if you're looking for a way to just sit back and enjoy an endless river of content that you like, all while amassing a surprising number of followers despite hardly ever posting anything original, then Tumblr is really the perfect site for that.
That said, I totally agree that it is
not a good place for webcomics. If your plan is to follow one person so you can keep track of one series that they're posting, then... yeah, don't expect that to go very smoothly. Tumblr just isn't a good site for that. At all.
So... yeah, just depends on what you're looking for, really. Tumblr offers an experience that's pretty divergent from what you'll find on a lot of other sites, but there are also things that I like to do on other sites that wouldn't at all work on Tumblr. It just offers something different, and not everything that works well on one site will work on another. That's all.
