Alex sniffled, but nodded, standing. With her head down, she walked past Isaac and down the stairs. She paused a moment, wiping her eyes, though it did no good, her vision still blurring from tears.

John heard footsteps and he stood. He knew it was probably one of the others, but it wasn't not Jaylin, so e was cautious. He could hear it from the way the person walked. He blocked the view on the two girls

Mya looked up at John, then at the ceiling were footsteps could be heard. She crawled over to Kasey and hugged her protectively.

Jaylin offered Isaac a smile and patted his hair, still herself...for now at least. "Guys...stop being so sad. It's really no big deal. He's a doctor." She tried to offer some optomism but her voice was weak. She was weak. Breathing was becoming more strenuous, taking nearly all of her energy. Speaking only made her want to give in but the small smile never left her face. Once Isaac and Alex left, the small smile fell and Jaylin let all of her pain show. She really did want to just die, to give in to the pain and just....be gone. It felt like her entire body was on fire as her eyes rolled lazily towards Craig. "Please....just save Markus."

Jack stumbled to his feet, hearing Alex return downstairs. All of his weight was shifted to the left, his good ankle. Forcing himself forward, Jack hobbled his way to Alex's side. He stopped her mid stride, holding on to her shoulders and making her face him. "Woah..what's wrong?" He asked seeing her tears falling freely down her cheeks. He glanced upstairs and it clicked. Jaylin had been bitten. The scream. It was her. His eyes shifted to the girl in front of him as Jack pulled her in to a tight hug. He didn't say anything. There were no words to make this easier and they both knew it.

Craig bit his lip. "Well...how do you want to do this? Surgical, or birth?" He asked, rubbing the back of his neck. He'd never done this before...and he didn't want to fail now.

Alex held tightly onto him, her face against his shoulder as she cried silently, her entire body shaking with the force of her emotion. She sniffled, shuddering as she tried to calm herself, but failed anyway.

"It has to be surgical Craig." Jaylin said softly. "I ca.....I can't give...." Jaylin panted softly, eyes struggling to remain open. "Can't give birth." She whispered. She held his hand, needing him to understand. Markus was the most important thing right now. He had to survive this. He couldn't die like this. He hadn't even been born yet. Jaylin met Craig's eyes, silently pleading for him to do this. It would ease her mind knowing her son was safe.

Jack rubbed Alex's back, rocking slowly back and forth. He wasn't honestly sure of what to do so he just mimicked what his mother used to do for him when he was younger. He glanced down at the girl crying in his arms and actually felt...responsible for her. He wanted her to feel better, and for the first time in years, he wanted to be the person to help. Jack lifted Alex's chin gently with two fingers. He wiped her tears away as best he could, only to have them be replaced by new, fresh ones but he did his best. "Hey...you did everything you could. Don't beat yourself up alright." Jack glanced up the stairs that faded off once they hit the top, obscuring the view of the hall. "I'm sure she'll pull through. She's totally kick ass and you're smart."

Alex sniffled, but nodded weakly. "I-I hope y-you're right.." she stuttered, taking a deep breath. She hugged him tightly. "L-let's get the others.." She said quietly. "C-craig said t-to clean up." She glanced around at the mess strewn across the floor. This would be...interesting..to clean up.

Craig nodded. He closed the door, locking it just to be sure no one would walk in. He grabbed a few towels. "I need you to be as quiet as possible..okay? I don't want to have the others come running back up." He said, knowing how stupid it sounded, but wanting to be honest.

Jaylin nodded weakly. She held on to Craig's hand, grip slackening just a bit despite her squeezing her hardest. She glanced up at the man supposed to save her son's life, anxiety beginning to fill her. She was scared, not that he couldn't do this but because she knew. Jaylin knew she would die. She knew that Markus was the only thing keeping her alive and it was terrifying that she was going to die, barely above the age of eighteen as she gave birth to her first child.

Jack nodded, taking Alex's hand. "C'mon." He walked into what had been the living room. He lifted a few of the infected that had slipped inside and been killed, up. He hopped to the door, broken ankle dragging slightly behind him as he threw the bodies, one by one, outside. Once that was finished, Jack returned to the common room. There were still pieces of drywall and fallen beams resting all over the place. This was never ending.

Alex walked to the basement door. She opened it after drying her eyes. "Hey, everyone. Come on up." She said softly.

Mya jumped up. "ALEX!" she paused, blinking. She could sense Alex was hiding something, but chose not to point that out yet. "John...will you help me with Kasey please?" She asked.

Craig took a deep breath, glancing at the door before beginning the surgery...

A little while later, Craig sighed softly, rocking Markus gently in his arms, the small, clean child wrapped in several warm towels.

Isaac walked to the basement door "M..Mya?" He looked at her, smiling, dropping a small tear. "Hi Mya"

Jack had finished up moving the debris from the living room as Alex walked downstairs. He was picking up small bits of trash when he heard the distinct cry of a new born child. His head snapped to the stairway, eyes fixated there. He half expected Jaylin to walk out of there, baby in her arms, smile on her face. She really did seem like the glue that held everyone together. His eyes shifted to the basement door where Alex had disappeared to. He wondered if she could hear it. Jack glanced back at the closed door above the stairs and then returned to his work. The baby upstairs was quickly pacified, Jack assumed Jaylin had taken the child into her arms, she always had that calming effect. Not too long afterwards, Jack finished with his cleaning, tossing the bags of debris and broken things outside, a few yards from the house. He turned and stared at the open space before the church. It looked like some sort of scene from the apocolypse. Dead, rotting bodies littered the snow covered ground. The white powdery substance called snow was soaked and melting with blood. Jack felt his stomach churn, eyes finding Zerian at the edge of the field and the forest. He watched the man for a long time, eyes scrutinous. He walked over, hands in pockets, face twisted into a contemptuous frown. He stopped a foot or two away from the man, eyes shifting to the setting sun. "The hell are you still doing out here?" He asked, voice and words harsh. "Your sisters dying you know." His voice was apathetic but inside Jack was fuming. Who stayed outside, where nothing was happening, while their sister was inside, infected, giving birth, and close to death. He didn't understand these people at all. "Get the hell up before she dies. I'm not taking care of your blubbering ass if you miss your chance to say goodbye." Jack turned on his heel and walked back inside. He slipped down the stairs, standing at Alex's side. "Yo." His right arm wrapped loosely around her shoulders, nodding in hello to the three children inside the safe hold Jaylin had placed them in.

Jaylin was slipping between awake and sleep. Her eyelids felt like rocks were weighing them down as she fought to keep them open. She felt weak and knew she was bleeding. She reached out for her new born son. He was crying and she wanted to comfort him. Once he was in the safety of her arms, Markus ceased crying, large yellow eyes looking up at Jaylin with a strange sort of recognition no new born child should have. Markus reached up, hands on his mothers cheeks as he kicked his feet and gurgled. Jaylin felt a warmth where his hands were and for a quick few moments, she was pain free. He was trying to heal her. A warm smile brightened her face as she removed his tiny hands from her face. Markus began to whimper and cry. Jaylin hummed softly, still herself for the moment. She held Markus's hands in her own, holding him close. She sang a soft lullaby her own mother used to sing, the same one she would sing to Mya and Isaac, even John when he first arrived. She kept her eyes Markus as he calmed a bit, almost like he was accepting what would happen. Jaylin looked up at Craig, a sad smile on her face. "Take care of him Craig." She rasped out. Jaylin handed Craig her child, letting herself fall back into the cushions of the bed. She heaved a sigh, finally letting her will fade. She let the pain override all of her senses, eyes slipping closed as her breathing slowed until it finally stopped...

Alex almost jumped when Jack came over, but calmed. She rested her head on his shoulder. She heard the baby cry. In fact... She heard everything. Her heart felt like it was broken to pieces. She took a deep breath. "Mya... I'll be right back... Okay?" She said calmly. She looked at Jack a moment and smiled weakly. Turning away from everyone, she made her way back upstairs to her room. Pulling out a small box, she opened it. Seven vials sat in a box where ten originally were held. She skimmed her fingers over them before picking up a red vial. She tucked it in a small bag, which she placed in her pocket. She closed the box, closing her eyes as well, her mind flashing back to when she first met Jaylin. Don't worry... I will protect you. She wiped new tears from her eyes. She couldn't cry now.. It would do nothing. She hid the box again and stood.

Mya looked up at Isaac. "Hi..." She blinked a moment and looked at John. She felt Kasey stir and slipped an arm around her waist, helping her up. She nodded at Alex, helping Kasey towards the stairs. She didn't know anything that had happened, she hadn't been listening.

Craig held Markus gently, staring at Jaylin. This was going to go downhill fast, or at least he thought. He rocked Markus gently, silently as he covered Jaylin and pulled the covers over her completely, like they did the the lab. He unlocked the door.

Markus wailed as he heard his mothers last breathes. Not even the doctors soothing movements and gentle hold could do anything to pacify him. He wanted his mommy so why wasn't she coming to him. He knew she was sick and he tried to fix it but where was she?! Markus's cries filled the home, face scrunched tightly as piercing cries ripped from his vocal cords. Even wrapped in a bundle of warm blankets, he was quivering with the force of his tears. His cheeks were bright cherry red while he screamed. Where was mommy?!

Jack watched Alex walk away. He looked down at the children and hurried down the steps. He lifted Kasey up, carrying her up out of the small room. He set her down next to Isaac before sighing heavily. "Uh...so..I'm Jack..." he introduced awkwardly not really knowing what else to do. He couldn't exactly just come out with the truth and tell them Jaylin was dead. He heard Markus cry for the first time. It was heart wrenching to hear his wails. Even though he was newly born, the pain he was feeling at not knowing where his mother was, could be felt all the way in Jack's core. He hated it.

Alex whimpered slightly at the sudden sound of crying. She slipped into a hall and walked into the room where it was coming from. She took Markus gently from Craig. "Hey there..." She said softly, tracing a gentle finger over his cheek. "Shhh..." She wanted the child to calm down, at least for a moment, so she could either speak to him or take him to Liam. It was his child, after all.

Mya covered her ears as a baby began crying. She winced. It was painful, the high pitch, the pain behind it. She looked confused. "Where's Jaylin?"

Markus settled a bit. Only soft whimpers bubbled out past his lips. He blinked as he looked up at the woman holding him. He knew her. Alex. She was aunty. She was friends with mommy. Yeah, he knew her. His tiny hands lifted, reaching up at the woman. He kicked his feet, hands moving wildly. He still had no control over his movements, everything looking jerked and uncontrolled. He gurgled, drool slipping out over the corner of his mouth. His hands touched Alex's arm, sending a thought to her. "Aunty..."

Jack glanced back upstairs. Where was Alex when you needed her!! He looked back to Mya and sighed. "Well..uh..she's upstairs." He said giving a noticeably vague answer. He wasn't quite sure how Mya would handle it and he wasn't looking forward to finding out. In the meantime, he would just fib until it was time for them to know.

Alex smiled softly. "Yeah..." She said, taking Markus's tiny hand in her own. "You want to go meet everyone else?" She asked softly.

"Oh.. Okay. What happened?" She asked, looking around.

Craig decided once Alex left with Markus, he would find a way to bury Jaylin without disturbing anyone else. Easy enough, right?

"Uh...earthquake." Jack stated, turning to the living room...well what used to be the living room at least. He really did do his best to clean it up but nearly everything was broken and strewn across the room. He scratched the back of his head, shrugging lightly. "Eh..did my best to clean it up." He raised a brow at Mya. "Why?"

Markus clapped as Alex began to walk. He hadn't forgotten about finding Jaylin but he was feeling a lot better with Aunty Alex. He was much more relaxed in her arms now. His big eyes wandered around, taking in all of the sights. It was so strange being able to see it himself now. Markus had the urge to touch everything, maybe evenbite it. He wondered if the soft couch cushions tasted like clouds looked. That would be fantastic!

Alex paused at the top of the stairs. "Oh my..." She giggled softly, shifting him in his arms. "Alllll the way down there." Her mood seemed to have changed drastically. She hopped down silently each stair at a time, softly whispering 'boop' to Markus as she did so. When she reached the bottom, she walked into the room with the others. "Who wants to say hi to Mr. Baby Markus?"

Mya shrugged. "Because there's a beam from the ceiling in the floor.. And I'm pretty sure the infected didn't do it. An earthquake makes sense.." She trailed off as Alex came in. "Ooh.. Markus?" She skipped over, her red eyes peeking curiously down at him. "Hello!"

"An earthquake makes sense.." Jack mocked, rolling his eyes. "Obviously the earthquake makes sense." He grumbled. He was about to open his mouth one more time until the sound of Alex's voice shut him up. He stare at the small bundle in her arms, eyes flickering between it and Alex. She was much more happier than he had seen her last. That was good. Jack slowly ventured over, peering over Alex's shoulder at Markus. "He's cute..." He commented eyeing the baby. He wasn't good with children. Never was, pretty certain he never would be either.

Markus was all gums and smiling as Alex hopped down the stairs. His eyes were alight with cheerfulness as he waved his arms around in the air. He kicked his feet, smile falling into a frown when Alex reached the main floor and he was no longer bopping up and down with her. His gazed met red as he twisted his head this way and that in tiny jerking movements until he could see all of Mya's face. He no longer smiled, blinked, moved...anything. His gaze was completely locked with her, studying her. Markus lifted his arms, eyes continuously staring into hers. He wanted her to hold him. 'Sissy.'

Alex smiled softly, handing the small child to Mya, who squeaked happily. Alex turned to face Jack. "He is.." She let her smile fade slightly. She hugged him gently. "Thanks.. For everything. The cave, helping out here.." She felt like she needed to thank him. She sorta dragged him into this, and she wanted to show her appreciation in case anything happened.

Mya held Markus close. She giggled. "Hello little Markus. I'm Mya." She said, sitting down.
