The Guardians of Lux

Fear creeped into the bones of Akiko as the soldier escorted her out of the area. Even though she knew that she switched her IMS off, she could not help but wonder what would happen if the soldier somehow noticed that the bracelet on her hand is not what it looks like, and then took her to the headquarters. A chill ran down her spine as she imagined the trial and the punishment that would follow, so she quickly started looking for escape routes in her panic. She was so lost in her own thoughts that she did not notice when the soldier said something to her, so she almost screamed when the soldier prodded her with his rifle to get her attention. Luckily, though, she managed to control her reaction.

"What is it?" asked Akiko, fear seeping into her voice. Her throat was dry and the words just did not feel right. In fact, they were so wrong that even the soldier noticed them.
"I will not arrest you, citizen," said the soldier reassuringly. "But you should heed the warnings issued on the net."
"Y-yes. I will do that," said Akiko, slightly stuttering again. "I-I am sorry to have wasted your time," said the young woman, but the young soldier simply shook his head and went back towards his squad. When he was gone, Akiko's legs gave out and she collapsed from exhaustion. She was lucky that the soldier was using his night gear, otherwise, he surely would have seen just how nervous she was, and would have performed a search on her. She just realised that she had broken out in cold sweat and that her hands were shaking unnaturally, so she took a few long, deep breaths to calm herself down.

Her next thought was to switch on the IMS and activate the battle armour, but she quickly stopped herself a click short from extracting the armour from subspace. Even if the streets of the city were deserted, there might be some people who are still up at this hour of the night and see her change into her armour, so she examined her surroundings first. Only after making sure that she was alone did she issue the final command to switch her armour on.

Inside the harbor, the men of Steven were thoroughly examining the hideout, and their findings confirmed the sergeant's fears. Signs of fossils fuels were found on the small bridges extending into the waters around the docks, new tools were lying around in some obscure places, and worst of all, there were signs pointing to the fact that until recently, a ship was in this small dock. He did not know how long ago it left, but it was the night, and finding a small ship in the ocean during the night would be nothing short of a nightmare , even with Lux's equipment, so he decided to contact his squad leader.

"Sergeant Steven reporting in, sir. Reporting that we found a secret dock inside the harbor, sir. It seems that it saw some good use and a ship left it recently."
"Acknowledged. I have transmitted the information to Headquarters. Return to the entrance immediately," responded the squad leader.
"Affarmative. Returning to the main entrance of the harbor," said Steven, and then made some hand signals to his soldiers. The squad reformed immediately under his direction, except for one man, who picked something up from the ground and showed it to Steven. It was a small piece of fabric from one of the long bridges extending into the water and the material was clearly new. The insignia on it, however, was not. It was a three-headed eagle with four, widely spread wings, and a sword in its clutch, a symbol that everybody in Lux knew very well, the symbol of the revolution that took ten years ago.
"Oh hell," said Steven, which perfectly summarised the situation. He quickly contacted his squad leader again and told him the details, which resulted in him getting new orders and another Sergeant to work with. Reinforcements were now under their way to the harbor, and all military bases in Lux went to high alert.

As soon as Akiko equipped her IMS fully, a setup screen appeared in front of her eyes, telling her that the device detected a new configuration and it wanted to know what features to use, which took Akiko completely by surprise. She had to read the list a few times to understand what exactly the programs and features included with the armour were, and took several minutes to actually choose the ones that she thought she would need. With a final move of her fingers, she set the armour up completely, and the IMS suddenly tightened its grip on her, linking her mind to the interpretation program of the device. However, before she could move a muscle, the IMS picked something up on its sensor net and identified it as a convoy of armoured personnel carriers.

Thinking quickly, Akiko started running towards the harbor and contacted all of her fellows Guardians.

To all Guardians, this is Yami. The military has been fully mobilised. If we ever want to get some information about what just happened, we have to break into the harbor now.
