Middle Earth. A vast world full of might and magic in varied forms. The world has recently been enjoying another era of peace, with the destruction of the great evil Sauron and the One Ring, his instrument of power. In the last age, an unlikely band of adventurers succeeded on a quest to take the One Ring to Mount Doom, where the even less likely heroes, in the form of hobbits, cast the ring into the fires of the mountain. It is now the 240th year of the Fourth Age. The armies of the dark lord scattered after his defeat, with reports of orcs becoming less common, the rebuilding of the great nations of Middle Earth have been going well. Even the dwarves have managed to reclaim Moria, enjoying a new time of wealth and plenty. While the lands of Rohan and Gondor work in concert to maintain the lands of men. The majority of the elves have left Middle Earth, though many remain, content to live out their lives here. The land has recovered as well, with the great Fangorn Forest recovering nicely.
Unfortunately, no era of peace lasts forever, and those who remain to watch after Middle Earth, are beginning to see things stir again. Things moving in the darkness, strange howls in the night reminiscent of the last great war. Attacks have begun to occur again, and there are whispers of some great new threat attempting to take the place of Sauron and usurp his throne of malice. Recently, however, the signs have grown more severe, and even stranger events have begun unfolding. Rumors speak of a former servant of the dark lord, a grunt in one of his great armies that had risen to prominence for his scholarly pursuits amid mindless abominations, as well as his ability to craft. His name was forgotten, and his descendants ignored, until recently, one such descendant made a grand discovery. The means of crafting items of great power, particularly, the hidden knowledge of creating rings of power. However, unlike the former master of his predecessors, he claimed to want only the protection of Middle Earth, to see it flourish under the rule of men. While the rulers of the world were hesitant to accept the offer of gifts from such a creature, over time, he was able to convince them to at least hear them out. As such, a meeting was arranged in a small village within the realm of men. Where those serving the lords of Middle Earth would deem whether or not his intent was pure. Or, if like in the past, only deception.
Noting the strange shift in the world, the Valar decided to again intercede in fear that their greatest enemy was plotting to crown a new champion to carry out his dark will. New beings were created in image of the Maia of previous ages, wizards that were capable of wielding great magics. These individuals have only just begun appearing again, and are mostly unknown and unlearned, needing their own degree of guidance in order to protect Middle Earth.
Rules:
- All standard Iwaku rules apply. Please follow them.
- For the most part, most types of content are welcome. This is high fantasy and can get bloody. However, anything that borders on the red star territory, keep it in PM's, please.
- For now, I will be allowing anyone who wants to join to play up to 2 characters, if you'd like. Be mindful that this may change with enough interest.
- You may play Men, Elves, Dwarves, or Hobbits. At this point, due to the unique natures of many of the cast, we are looking for a more mundane variety of characters. You can be interesting without being super unique!
- Characters may receive rings of power. These rings will grant unique powers and abilities to individuals who wear them. All powers will be subject to approval.
- You may be from virtually any region of Middle Earth, so long as it makes sense for you to be involved.
- You will likely have to edit your character sheet from time to time. The sheets will be monitored just in case. Don't be that guy.
- Please be king to each other. I cannot stand players who like to berate other players or GM's. In one form or another, we are all friends here.
- If you have any questions, I welcome you to ask, and I will gladly provide any answers I can to the best of my ability.
- My posting expectations tend to be lax, but, if at all possible, I prefer at least a post per week from each player. I understand that life happens and people get busy, though.
- Communication is of the utmost importance. If you lose interest or are going to be busy, let me know! We can work around anything or give you a proper send off.
- Thank you for reading through all of these, if you did. I greatly appreciate it. If you did so, let me know who your favorite LotR character is.
