I believe the number of light-up shoes I made my mom buy for me as a kid argue the point that nothing is pointless if it lights up.
 
I was obsessed with marbles as a kid. I never played with them, they weren't fancy. They were just different colors, and they were MINE. I kept them in bags and little boxes until one day I realized how stupid it was to be keeping them around and got rid of them. :/ I kinda miss them now, though..
