That video was hilarious. I laughed out loud. Then again, I have a pretty odd sense of humor and I think I'm pretty jaded to internet weirdness (all those years lurking on 4chan have hardened me to a lot of things).

I do not recommend even going near that place. It's fucked up. Whatever story you read on nosleep is probably 25% real. Even though I've never been brave enough to go there (and I don't have the right programs to keep myself anonymous) I've heard some really weird and illegal shit dwells in the inNER DEPTHS OF THE DEEP PITS OF HELL AND THE FBI TRACKS YOU?????

The deep web's reputation is extremely overinflated with modern myth and plain old misinformation, largely due to people conflating it with the dark web. It's actually not at all a bad thing, and probably everyone who uses the internet has in fact been to the deep web. Wanna know what the deep web actually is? It's any unlisted page on the internet, meaning anything that you cannot find or access with a search engine, and anything that cannot be viewed without going through some kind of access wall (like having to sign into an account). Your email is deep web. Your inbox on Iwaku is part of the deep web. Even user profile pages on Iwaku are technically deep web because they can't be viewed by people who don't have an account. The deep web is not a scary place.

The dark web though? That's where those horror stories come from. The dark web is also deep web, but it's a special subclass of it: pages of the dark web cannot be accessed by normal internet protocols. That http or https at the front of a URL is the communication protocol being used by that site. Dark web sites use different protocols, so only other people with those protocols can access those sites. Various governments have dark web setups for their networks to prevent (or at least minimize) the ability for outside people to access them. There are also a lot of shady things that happen on dark web networks, such as the online black market site Silk Road where people sold drugs and other things before the FBI arrested the guy running it and shut it down. Even tales of horrors from the dark web are largely exaggerated by people who have never actually gone there, because "OMG A PERSON WAS KILLED BY SOME PSYCHO THEY MET ON THE DARK SIDE OF THE INTERNET!!!" is a much more entertaining story than "yeah some people sell illegal goods and services on the dark web, basically internet black market, nothing to worry about as long as you're being smart about your internet security." :P
