Vale could feel her warmth seep through him despite the chill that began to fill the air from the dipping sun on the horizon that could be seen through the windows, though Vale was vaguely aware of the late hour, his only focus and concern being Audrey. Indeed, he did have other chores to attend to, but they did not matter to him at the moment. Nor did he fear of being punished for not doing them. He could take anything, there was nothing that these nobles could do to make him leave Audrey's side in her time of need, nothing at all. His place was right here with her. No one would tell him otherwise.
When she gave him her order, he could only smile and had to hold back a chuckle. She had no need to order him. He would gladly do so, no matter what, even if he had to fight Benjamin and the whole noble household for his right to stand by her side. However...something else pained him most of all. The very fact that she would be married to another man, had stabbed his heart worse than the day of his parents' deaths. Hurt worse than the scar on his face. He was surprised by the sudden pain inside him, the sudden urge to hide in a dark corner and weep the ache and sorrow that was running through him at the thought that she wouldn't be his.
The sneaky thought made him pause in stunment. His? His... Yes, there was no denying what he wanted, and that was her. He did not want her to marry that smugged noble, but to marry...to marry... Him. Such thoughts were against the rules, nay, the laws. The very notion of a slave thinking of marrying a noble was out of the question, and was severely punished for it, perhaps even killed. He had no right to think of such things... But that didn't stop such things from entering his mind.
When she pulled away from him, he stood by the doorway and watched her go to the bed, laying down at an awkward angle. Though not like he was going to tell her the correct way to lay on a bed. He only watched her sadly, seeing the grief inside her with every step she took, with every movement of her hands. Then he watched as one lifted towards him, before the second followed, and he heard her words. He needn't hear any more.
He closed the door, not wanting anyone to find them and disturb Audrey, praying that they can somehow avoid any confrontation from anybody. To just be alone for a while. He walked along the floor over to her, gently sitting on the bed and leaned down onto his side so that he faced her, using his elbow to prop himself up. He reached forward, taking her hands gently in his, and pulled them close to his chest. He was close to her, very close, so close that if anyone walked in right now then it would be the cells for sure.
"I meant it." He said softly to her. "And I will keep it. Never will I leave you alone. I will always be with you, and no force on earth or beyond will ever stop me, even if I have to lift mountains and swim through fire. I'll be here, where I belong."
