Josie, Keegan, and Leon
collab between @Kat @Elle Joyner @DarinValore
It was a miracle Josie and Leon managed to find the end of the underground, or the sewer system, if Josie wanted to be candid about it. The fishy smell and green mold was not a pretty sight to pass by, however, it was imperative to get back to the base undetected. Josie ran her hand through her hair and breathed a sigh of relief as home welcomed her. The familiar sight of her family and the run down place was better than any sewer.
"Here we are, Leon. Let's find Keegan. Oh– there he is. Keegan!"
Josie called her boss over and approached him in the middle of the hallway with Leon.
"Keegan, this is Leon. Leon, this is Keegan."
Keegan stopped midtrack when he heard his name. Before he could say a word, Josie was introducing the man she had brought along with her..a man he knew nothing about. Giving him the once over with a suspicious look, Keegan ignored him and looked to Josie, "I'll have Devon escort Leon to a temporary room while I debrief you. I need to know everything that happened."
A brow quirked, and Leon's gaze shifted between Keegan and Josie, "Temporary room? Josie?"
"It's okay, Leon. I'll get you after the debriefing," Josie reassured him. "There's nothing to worry about. Everything's all good."
Nodding weakly, he looked to Keegan, "...Alright. I guess I wait here, then?"
Keegan nodded, "Devon will be here any minute now," as if on queue, the mass of muscle rounded the corner, "It looks like you won't have to wait long though. Here he is. Devon, please see Leon to a temporary room while I debrief Josie."
"Yes, sir," Devon returned and then extended an arm down the hall, "This way please."
"Josie, if you'll follow me," Keegan told her, his eyes lingering on Leon and Devon.
Josie glanced over at Leon and felt a strong pang of sympathy for him.
"I'll see you later, Leon."
She turned on her heel and followed Keegan. Once they were out of earshot, she spoke again.
"You know, you could stand to be a little less harsh on Leon. I'd be dead if it weren't for him."
Keegan turned on his heel immediately, "A little less harsh? While I am grateful that you are not dead, did you even take time to ask him how he knew you were there? Or even that you were a member of Rogue? Do you know anything about him?"
"No, but Keegan, Luna's life is more important. He let me call from an untraceable. Do you think he would've let me do that if he was an undercover agent for R.I.E.F.? If he was part of R.I.E.F., I'd already be knocked out by now and shipped off to an experimental research facility, if not killed on sight. At least give him a little benefit of the doubt. I thought about it, I did, but Luna came first and that's what I was focused on. We don't even know where the others are," Josie strained. She understood what she'd done wrong, however, she wanted to see the other side of things. What would Luna say? What would she do in this situation? If it was Josie, she wouldn't have followed the man into the sewers in the first place; not even out of the building. Luna was in danger and she had to take a different approach now.
"I'm the only one who made it out of there and because of me, everyone else is gone. There was an ambush inside the facility and I had to at least, try and save Mac and the others. I disobeyed your orders to try and save them and now, my actions have caused Luna to disappear. She probably got kidnapped or something and it's my fault, so don't jump to conclusions so quickly. Leon could help us. He can track signals from R.I.E.F., he cut off their comms and he has amazing potential. If he saved me, he can help save Luna."
"Or doom us all," Keegan returned, "There's a reason why we do research on someone before we bring them here, Josie. Here where there are non-combatants: children, elderly, people who don't have the training or the abilities that you all do. This place is a sanctuary and people who are brought here go through a gauntlet of background checks and other investigative measures. I know nothing of this man, and you brought him here," Keegan perched his hands on the cane before him and drummed it against the floor, "What am I to do with him now? I can't afford to give him free reign to roam anywhere, and I can't let him leave."
With a frustrated groan, the mutant took a few more steps away from her before returning, "Against my better judgment, Josie, I will release him to you. You will watch him like a hawk. Hopefully, you will take this order more seriously than the last one," Keegan sucked his teeth and then jerked his head toward the hall where Devon and Leon had disappeared, dismissing her without another word.
Josie turned and left on cue. Her mind strained to understand what was so terrible about trying to save Mac. She tried to see past Keegan's concerns and not take it personally, however, every word had been another hit to her ego. She failed and put everyone in danger; that's all she knew how to do. She approached the interrogation room where Leon was being questioned by Devon. Her knuckles hesitated to knock and she stepped back. It wasn't worth the trouble to go in and interrupt, so she waited– and waited– until Devon was finally done with Leon.
