Rebirth of the Magi (IC)

"My parents left all different kinds of "illegal" weapons around the house! It's not like they care! I'm alright, though. Just trying to figure out where these animal parts came from," Aimee said clinging to Godot's arm. By this time, Harper had flown off somewhere, and Aimee snatched up the AK-47 and exchanged the cartridge. "Any fuckers pop up, imma blow their heads off!!!" she joked, pointing it a few objects. Actually, it was more of a lie than anything. If something did happen she'd be most likely running. Sitting back down near the water, she scooped some into a bottle and drank it quietly, holding the assault rifle tightly under her arm.

Raerin wasn't paying much attention, and it wasn't because he was lost in thought as he would expect himself to be. No, something had set him on edge just a little bit, something he'd heard far off...and he was trying his hardest to hear it again. Finally he just tried to get everyone else to be quiet. He tried to make a shushing noise, but it came out as sort of a weird extended "th" sound. Then he just shook his head and said, "Shut up--please--I think I hear something."

For a good few seconds or so, everyone was quiet and Raerin focused on the sound. It was closer, and it sounded kind of like...laughter. It wasn't pleasant; it was the kind of thing you'd expect to hear in an insane asylum, a laughter that communicates pain and anger rather than mirth. It was definitely still getting closer.

The next thing anyone knew, the fox from earlier was running toward the group with at least five people, disheveled and in varying states of transformation, but all clearly taking traits of a hyena, very close behind him. They were some of the people who had not managed to keep their minds..the word that somehow quickly came to mind was 'feral'. Raerin saw something else, looking that way; from the angle he facing the scene he could see a short way down an alley, and there another, fully changed person lying in wait. The fox was headed straight for them.

"Look out!" said Raerin, starting to run in the general direction of the trap and trying desperately to think of what exactly he could do to get there faster, or what he might even do once he got there. He managed to slip on some of the water underfoot, and fell on his stomach. He was only able to look up at the hyena leaping at the black fox for a second..

"Sh** s*** s*** s*** S**T!!!" With the last word came a complete surprise; some kind of strange howl from Raerin's mouth, but that wasn't it. The surprise was a ball of fire showing up in front of his face and flying through the air, meeting the hyena head on and knocking it away from the fox. Raerin shook his head, standing up and just staring at the burned creature for a moment, not really able to comprehend what had just happened.

So...was that a fireball? Yeah that was a fireball. When Raerin shushed everyone it gave Neal the opportunity to hear the sounds of the animals coming closer. When he looked around he saw the fox from before and it was set up to run into an ambush. Raerin had already been on his way to help but then fell and belched out a fireball. Neal stared at the charred hyena until he realized that these animals posed a threat.

The black fox skittered passed him, one of those crazy hyena people close behind it. Neal lurched forward and with a big swing of his arm smashed the hyena- creature to the side sending it rolling in the dirt. Standing up on his legs, Neal listened to some kind of instinct that told him to appear as big as possible. He roared at the rest of the hyena's and beat at his chest uttering a ferocious challenge. Giving the other hyenas brief pause.

Aimee screamed and stood back when she saw the hyenas charging out of nowhere. She was even more frightened when the wolf (what was his name again?) practically shot out a fireball. And to make it even more terrifying, one started chasing her and all she could think to do was run, leaving the gun behind. "AHHHHH!!!" her voice echoed miles off coming out like a high-pitched hawk screech. Much to the young girl's aggravation, she tripped and fell and when it pounced her, she immediately started fighting back, scratching it in the face with her claws and trying to wrestle it off her. This thing was as vicious as hell, and just when she thought she was going to die, she remembered she had a knife in her pocket, flipping it open and stabbing it in the neck.

Heaving, Mel ran towards the others. He didn't mean to bring the hyenas to all of the others, but what else could he do? He couldn't have fought so many by himself. He leaped over something metal, which was big enough that the hyena chasing him couldn't leap. Wait, whatever it was, it should have been too high for him to leap as well... Mel shook his head and decided that his momentum must have been pretty high. He came to a stop to take a gulp of air. His paws shook and his body felt like it wanted to fall to the ground. Mel looked up, though, just in time to witness the wolf give off a fireball at one of the hyenas. His body stopped shaking, as he became stunned. Magic? Or were his eyes deceiving him? Whatever the case, he didn't have time to wait around and find out. A hyena was coming his way.
The hunched legs of the creature looked scary as it ran, saliva hanging from its jaws, eyes of that of a mad man, fangs bared... Mel puffed up his fur, and stood his ground, also baring his teeth and growling at the creature. The hyena laughed and then barked. The hyena leaped forward at Mel, aiming for the fox's neck. The fox jumped at just the right time, tackling the hyena. He managed to get some of the animal's weak points, but it wasn't enough to stop it. Jaws snapped at the fox's neck.

....without a thought, the fox did something he never thought possible. Not anymore, at least. The former elf attacked at the hyena, as the hyena pounced. A surge of electricity went through the fox's body. Pain stung his insides, but it wasn't enough to send him to the ground. But it was enough for him to open his muzzle, letting out a yelp. The yelp grew larger though, and became a ferocious growl, as bolts of electricity ran up through the fox's body, through his throat, and out of his jaws. A deafening yelp came out of the hyena, as it went flying several yards away from the fox. Mel heaved, eyes huge as melons, as he looked at the violently shaking hyena, that was easily defined as dead. A few yelps came from the hyena, but it was all the shock waves' doing, sending out the last bit of life out of the animal's system. Mel could only freeze in place, and watch.

Godot reacted a bit late, only seeing or hearing the hyenas after Raerin let loose that massive ball of flame. What the hell was that? Magic? he wondered, this being the first time he'd even seen it. His family talked of their long lost ancestors being able to wield it, being an elf and all. But why did it crop up now? He didn't have much time to ponder the finer points of his logic, as a rather deformed man hyena thumped and dashed towards him, hunger in his eyes. Was this what others were reduced to?

He had to thank the heavens that his transformation left him a biped, meaning that he could still do things, such as plant a foot squarely in the hyena man's face, that he had honed his old body for. The beast went sprawling, a muffled yelp followed by an abrupt and sickening crack from it. He must've broken a bone, he though. While the beast was recovering, he decided for the humane approach. He pulled his service pistol out, loaded and opened fire as the being rose back to it's feet. Three solid shots, two making their mark in the hyena's skull. It slumped over without so much as a whimper. He stomped over to the others, aiming for the remaining creatures.

Neal didn't have time to marvel at the fox shooting lightning from it's mouth, as freaky yet awe striking as it was. It didn't distract the rather large hyena-human that decided to tackle Neal right after the lightning fried the other hyena freak. The beast sank it's teeth into Neal's shoulder, causing him to roar with pain and irritation as he fell half into the puddle. Quickly Neal rolled around so keep the hyena from being on top of him, and when he got back onto his feet he swung the hyena around and slammed it against a near by wall, stunning it enough for it's jaws to loosen. Neal pried the beast off, swinging it around again to slam it against the wall.

The beast started to claw and scrabble at him and in response Neal rose a big fist and smashed it over the head and drove it to the ground. He basically sat on the hyena-man's back and grabbed it's head. With a quick jerk he broke it's neck. Neal looked up quickly when he heard the gun shot, only in time to see a hyena as it was diving at him and knocked him to the ground.

Raerin was still having trouble processing what he'd just done when the fox, whose name he was sure nobody had learned yet, generated electricity straight out of his body and killed another Hyena. There was a rush of motion and noise: Roars, impacts, gunfire, more laughing or yelps of pain from the attackers. He was trying to keep up with it all, and when his brain finally did catch up he saw the hyena with badly burnt fur all across its side, the one he'd hit, tackling the gorilla-man...Neal? Right.

Without enough time to think about it, Raerin was moving toward them. He didn't know what he was going to do, he had no idea how to fight in his body, but he had to do something. The hyena was at Neal's throat when Raerin got there; he bit as hard as he could onto one of its hind legs, causing it to yelp in pain and jerk its head up. He pulled at the leg with as much strength as he could manage, trying to get it completely off Neal, not that that would turn out to be necessary...

Aimee defended herself as best she could while cursing to herself. It wasn't easy at all since her arms were no longer.....arms.....but she did a good job, otherwise. Another hyena charged at her snarling viciously and she knocked it to the ground breaking its leg, but it still heaved itself up and growled even louder. Persistent little freak..... She slashed through its skin with her talons and grimaced as it managed to wound her too. Trying to ignore the deep cut, she stabbed it repeatedly and killed it. She hadn't noticed one behind her and as it tackled her from behind, she actually wished she were dead too.

Ow. That kinda hurt. The hyena hybrid held onto his arm with it's malformed hand and jaws. Neal cried out, a gut quivering roar and then remember something his dad told him when confronting a dog. If a dog starts to attack you hit it right on the nose. The hyena was momentarily distracted when Raerin grabbed onto the things leg with his own jaws. That's when Neal brought his fist hurtling in and crashing against the hyena-man's nose. It yelped as it's nose broke and released it's hold enough for Neal to pry it off. He grabbed it with both hands now rolling over, dragging Raerin a little ways before he let go, and coming upright Neal lifted the beast clear off the ground as it scrabbled and clawed trying to escape his grasp. Neal smashed the beastly thing against the concrete once, and then twice when it didn't stop moving. With a grunt of satisfaction Neal threw the hyena aside.

A battlefield of raging hyenas? Not exactly how Mel imagined his first day as a fox. Then again, he never imagined himself as fox in the first place. But if he were still an elf and did happen to imagine it? Hell, he would have never put crazy, mad hyenas in the picture, but since when did things ever go according to plan? As he watched the rest of the hyenas being killed off, Mel was quite happy that the fight was ending. Though, he knew, if he were back in elf form, he would be the one raising hell and trying to get more hyenas to attack, just to get rid of time. But this was another situation all-together. For once, the lad was actually pleased to have others by his side, even if he didn't ever talk to them. At least, yet.

The fox watched as the big ape guy killed one of the last hyenas off. There was only one more to go, and it was pouncing on the girl. Without thinking, the fox growled, leaped, and knocked the hyena onto the ground, ripping at its throat with his fangs. He managed to get the hyena completely under his control, as he ripped through the canine's neck and broke through the pipes and vessels of the throat, sending blood gushing out. Mel stepped away from the body as he finished, and looked around. To him, it seemed as if all the hyenas were dead, but he couldn't be too sure if they're were anymore on their way. He backed up far enough to where he could see everyone that was there. He hated talking, but it seemed he had no choice.
"I'm pretty sure they are all dead, but I do not want to stick around if anymore mad 'men' come along and try to fucking kill us. I know some well hidden areas that I could bring you to. They're not too far from here, but I want to be quick if I'm bringing you there. If you don't want to come, oh well. I will go there myself, and a good to all of you."
Who said a fox couldn't be unreasonable? He had is own priorities. Besides, he really didn't want to take these creatures anywhere with him, but he felt like he had to after bringing those hyenas back to them. He doubted they'd follow him anyway, so he stood there, waiting for an answer. He'd give it five minutes.

Godot tried to help when he could, but it was over before he knew it, several dead hyena hybrids littering the devastated street. Scorch marks remained where the fire burned the hell out of one of them, and blood pooled near the corpses, the fresh scent he wished he didn't know as well as he did. He turned, looking at Aimee, and he caught with his eye her gash. "Aimee! You're hurt.. Here.' he said, striding over and opening his backpack of supplies, pulling out some gauze, iodine and antibiotics. "The last thing we need is an open wound on someone. Anyone else injured?" he asked aloud, as he began to drain and disinfect the oozing gash on her.
Thankfully, he knew some first aid, including CPR and proper EMT procedure. He'd never messed with a wound this bad before, but it seemed like any other gash; open, nasty, and bleeding. He poured the iodine on the wound, making sure it gets in and does it's job. A quick splash of water to rinse, antibiotics, and a healthy amound of gauze, and the field medicine was done for Aimee.

Neal sat down and huffed a breath, releasing his tension. That happened fast, felt like longer but it wasn't. He spotted the fox and listened to what he said: Possible shelter. Neal looked around at everyone and his eyes came to rest on the bird girl and her wound, the lion dude patching her up. He asked everyone if they had been injured. Didn't seem like any one else had been, except Neal was bleeding from a shallow bite. He waved a hand to signal he was alright. "I'm going with the fox, I think it's best if you-" he directed his voice at Godot "-bring her along, some kind of safe place you know?" Neal got up and strode over to where the fox was. He looked around at everyone before waving the fox to lead the way.
