Lover's Flight (Kitty x Ophelia)

Lux followed Kelsii out into the hall. She chuckled. "Please, princess, believe me when I say that no one could force me to leave this post if they tried." It was true. Lux was prepared to battle anyone who would dare take the prize of this promotion from her. She smiled winningly at the women in the hall who raised their eyebrows flirtatiously and whispered to each other as the two of them passed. Kelsii's look of pure exasperation did not go unnoticed.

"And I'd love to accompany you into town tomorrow if you'd like." Lux added. She leaned in and whispered in a playfully scandalous tone: "Your father's women should be back with their husbands by that time."

When they reached the study Lux was not surprised to find it just as impressive as the bedroom. The ceilings in this room alone were higher than that of any building Lux had been in before coming to the palace. There was intricate silver detailing on every wall and the curtains were of the rarest silks. Lux drank it in thirstily. She could definitely get used to all of it.

Kelsii giggled at the knight and rolled her eyes, his breath tickling her ear. It made her raise up her shoulder and tilt her head to press her ear up against her soft skin. "Yes, you'll have to accompany me all about. Tomorrow I must go out to town. Two days time we have the ball coming up and you must be with me at all times there too." Kelsii ran her tongue between her lips as she thought about other places. "And to my mothers grave next full moon. Any time I go out of town, you will have to join me as well. Everywhere." She nodded, then repeated herself. "Everywhere."

When they reached the study she watched Lux's eyes fall on the curtains and walls. Pulling close the door behind her she supposed she'd agree that the sight was quite beautiful. Along one wall was all books, right to the celing, a tall ladder pressed up against that wall. The dark wood shelves had all of Kelsii's favorite, and all the newest. She had written in black ink letters along the shelves to help herself stay organized, in the middle of the room were two wide couches and a table, in the very corner piled blankets and pillows. When Kelsii was young she'd held sleepovers. Now though, this did not happen often. A fireplace sat behind a large chair at the end of the room, across from the wall of books. It was tall and had a love seat and pillows before it, as well as a side table. This was princess Kelsii's second room.

Kelsii walked over to the couches on and table and sat, tea was places correctly in the middle, and little tea cakes and cookies decorated all around. Kelsii had a sweet tooth, which probably added to her curvy bust and hips. She looked up and Lux and patted the seat beside her. "Can you pour me some tea with a sugar cube and test it for me?" Kelsii asked kindly, there was an astronomy book on the side of the table she picked up. "If you don't like tea I suppose it's quite alright."

(Sorry for the lag, relationship complications)

"Anything you wish, Princess." Lux replied with a grin, walking over the the table confidently. Once arriving however, she became a bit warier. She hadn't had tea in some time. Knights didn't really have tea parties. She tried to recall the time before she started masquerading as a man and gingerly picked up the teapot. She prepared the tea and brought it to her lips. It was very sweet. Rather nice, actually. When she did not die on the spot she placed the cup in front of the princess.

"You like astronomy?" Lux asked, noticing the princess's book. "I could tell you all about stars. I used to sleep outside all the time when I was practicing for the knighthood." Lux smiled and thought back on those days.

Kelsii held onto the teapot gingerly, looking into it as the lightly colored water settled and sipping at it when her Knight did not drop. She didn't expect it to be poisoned, if she had she wouldn't have had him drink it in the first place. It was but a precaution. She put the small white tea cup back on the table and looked up to him with a curious expression. "They will not allow me out at night. During hot seasons, like this, I have always wanted to swim in the lake behind the house. Or watch the stars from the banks by the river where the grass is very soft and not too damp. They do not allow it though. It is, 'disrespectful' and 'unladylike'." Kelsii nodded, "But I would very much like to know how they are without glass shielding there beauty. Did you know if a star does not twinkle, it is another planet? Do you think one day there will be another planet like ours with many other people? That would be glorious."

Lux was blown away by Kelsii's response. Awestruck, she lowered herself into a nearby chair to ponder the thought of other planets. She used to believe her goals rather lofty, but compared to a universe of possibilities they seemed domestic and trite. "No... I didn't know that. I suppose I haven't thought about other planets much at all." She mused. "But have you ever seen the sky move? I suppose you wouldn't being locked up like you said. I used the watch it all summer. I would climb up on the roof of the stables at night and lay on my back and stare into the sky. And the constellations," Lux put her hands up in a framing motion to demonstrate. "Would drift across the sky like they were alive. It's the most wonderful feeling. You really experience time, how everything must move on and change. You must see it some day. I'll find a way for you to see it." She paused for a moment and then lit up even more brightly than before. "And then you can point out the planets to me!"

"They are very recent finds," Kelsii nodded, "I did know that stars move, but I've never seen it before." She nodded, "In the summer and winter there are different constellations. I would die to see them. One day maybe they'll make stairs that go to the heavens and I will be able to touch a new planet. That would be wonderful." She reached out as if she could touch the stars. "If you would take me out I would be greatful, but father he would be mad if he found out. Very much so." She took another sip of her tee, handing him a tea cake on a plate. "So if your caught it might be deadly so it may not be the best idea."

Lux smirked, looking playfully offended. She knew quite a bit about disguises, she could easily get Kelsii to and from the castle with none being the wiser.

"I am a knight. I fear no man, even a king." She said proudly. "Tomorrow I will go into the village with you as your escort and we'll find things to fix you up so even your own father wouldn't recognize you." Once Lux decided to do something there was really no stopping her. Kelsii had given her a great gift by winning her this position, she had to at least return the favor. Not to mention the idea of a secret rendezvous under the stars with a beautiful princess was too appealing to pass up merely because it was dangerous. Actually, in a way the danger made it even more appealing.

Kelsii pushed her hair out of her face and smiled happily at the knight. She beamed, even. What a wonderful man. "That would be fantastic! As long as you promise no ugly fake mustaches!" She giggled sticking her tongue out. What fun, to watch the stars, hopefully tomorrow would be a good night for swimming with the fishes... She had never been swimming before. Or watched the stars. Oh tomorrow would be wonderful, if her mother was here she would have loved Kelsii to experience those things. Looking up at the roof she blushed though, if her mom had known she went with another man then she might be a little more than curious though. This knight though... He was very much so getting on her good side. Kelsii hoped he continued to be as kind as he was. If it kept up... Maybe when she called off the arranged marriage she would find herself a new husband. Running her tongue over her lower lip she picked up her tea and finished it off. Green tea was good for the body, and rumored to be good for the soul.

Lux gave a charming sideways smile when Kelsii told her no mustaches. "I'm sure we can do better than that." She assured, warmed by the cuteness of Kelsii's giggle. She raised her eyebrows when she noticed Kelsii was blushing. Were they flirting? Probably not but... maybe.

If she had asked anybody at that time if it was a good idea for a common-born cross-dressing knight to get involved with the princess they all would have said no, that it was highly unsafe and generally a very bad idea. But Lux had no interest in safety and good ideas. She watched Kelsii flick her tongue out hungrily.

"I'll let you attend to your studies, princess." Lux said winking flirtatiously. She muddled through a drawer and found a deck of playing cards and a bowl. She leaned back in her chair and set to flicking the cards into the bowl in a nonchalant manner.

Kelsii's blush darkened, a shiver running up her spine. Was he... Flirting with her? She often got flirtatious looks and off comments being a princess. Most obsessed with her royalty and wealth though, she knew about it. This guy though was different. He couldn't possibly like her though, or want that kind of thing. He was a knight. The king would have his head in a bowl if he ever found out, surely the knight knew better. Her hands shook a little when she grabbed a tea cake, plopping open the book on her lap. Her shaking hand left frosting on the side of her mouth as she bit into the sweet cake and put the rest back down onto the plate to wipe her hands with a napkin, totally forgetting tasting protocol. Looking down at the book she pretended to read the words that just blurred. So they have a date under the stars... A date? it wasn't really a date was it? Well of course it was a date but was it a date.

Lux knew she was mad for doing what she was doing, but she couldn't bring herself to care. She and Kelsii would be together often, she at least wanted to get a little flirtation in. It had been so long since she'd had a girl around. Years surrounded by brash and blood-thirsty men only made her ache for the inviting softness of a woman more. She passed the time with her playing card time as Kelsii read. The squares of light from the windows sank and soon began to fade.

Kelsii sighed, "Sorry I'm so boring. I suppose it is best to get fed and bathed. Soon you will be switching off to go home, Lux. The knight time guard will be here. You can go tell you buddies you got a new post and everything! I'm sure that'll be exciting for you, yeah?" She gave a half smile and put her book away. "Lets go up to my room so they can bring me supper and wait for him to come so you can trade off." She closed her book and folded the corner of the page before setting it down. "The maids will take care of the cold tea and cakes."

Lux felt a soft sting at disappointment that she would have to leave Kelsii's side. "Well of course." She laughed half-heartedly. "They'll be out of the minds with jealousy that I have the company of such a beautiful princess. What more could a guy want? Let's get you to your room." She stood up and offered her hand to Kelsii as she got up from her own chair. They walked through the halls together. Most of the ladies from earlier had left, although there had to be one or two who had stayed to keep the king company. The halls were actually peaceful now. "You know, I've never seen more of the castle than the grand hall before today." Lux mused. "Funny, how I have the entire world outside and you have only these rooms."

Kelsii felt a soft heat at her core with the knights gentle words. Although meant in play, she could not help the embarrassment and flattery she felt because of him. Taking his hand gently she felt the roughness of it compared to her own, walking gracefully through the hall with him. "Yes." She murmured, "Though it is not so funny when you are the canary cooped up inside it's cage. Ah, but to others who look in at the talented musical bird, they think to themselves 'what a beautiful, talented bird you have here? May I feed it? Maybe it will sing to me.' although I am not talented, nor beautiful beyond words like a canary, I am still a sight to behold according to the members that come here. It might be because I have funny or 'cute' rebellious tastes. It might be because even though I spite being in here, I know if my father dies, like the caretaker of the canary who goes, I will no longer be fed and tended to and I will still be stuck in my position. Therefore I would be worse off." Walking along the long symmetrical hallways Kelsii found her room and opened it with a click. "So I am stuck in my cage and I can learn to like or resent it will make no difference to anyone but myself."

Lux listened thoughtfully. True, she had to lie about who she was, risk her life in a hundred different ways, work hard, and sometimes barely scratch by as a guardsman but she would not trade it for the world. Kelsii had everything she could ever need and she was miserable. "Or..." She took Kelsii's hand again and leaned down to kiss her slender fingers. The sensation of Kelsii's skin against her lips sent lightning through her entire body. "I'll help you learn how to fly." She looked up and revealed a mischievous glint in her blue eyes which spread across her face into a devilish grin. She came out of her bow. "I'll see you in the morning, princess."

Kelsii glanced away, chewing on the inside of her cheek when the man kissed her fingers. Feeling a tingling sensation jolt up her fingers and into her chest she straightened and took a deep breath. Kelsii had her hand kissed thousands of different times by hundreds of different men, but never before did it have such a reaction. A burly man with a big red beard and heavy armor came clanking down the hall as Lux said his goodbyes. "Ah, yes, we shall leave early before breakfast. I wish to eat at Elsa's little shop near the district for shopping, yeah?" The tan, large man gave a toothy grin, he missed one of his front teeth and smelled thickly of bear. Kelsii couldn't hide her love for the thick, crazy older man though. She smiled softly and waved, her full lips parting in joy. "Prin'ess!" He said heartily, " 'od evenin' to yah, 'od night as well." There was a single chair by Kelsii's door where the man sat down, plopping down as if someone had thrown a bag of sand onto a mattress.

"Yes, yes, it is time to sleep. I shall see you come morning Lux. Good night, Jeff!" Closing the door softly she pressed up against the back of the dark wooden door. The knight was a... Very interesting man indeed. Blushing, she bit her lip and sighed, slipping over to the large window and closing the curtains. It was dark already, the moon just rising, but with all the candle light making the house glow against the gardens it was hard to see the beauty of the stars. A maid knocked lightly on the door, coming in. "Supper miss?" She asked, entering without waiting for an answer. "No thanks. Watching my figure. I need to bathe and be clothed for bed though." The maid nodded, slipping back out. She would come back with three more maids and their baskets full of oils and soaps to chose from for the day. The young princess reveled in these soft pretty scents and milky feels against her skin.

After a long bath and the beauty treatments of her maids, she sat at her vanity with her main maid Ellie, brushing out her pale blonde hair. Her reflection in the mirror was less than satisfactory to her, without makeup or definition to her eyes. Her hair pale, face pale, body pale, eyes an interesting pale version of their true color. The paleness of her almost made her seem dead, and sometimes she wondered on the inside if she were. Her hair was stringed together with water and dampness and her skin fresh from the mask of goat milk and honey from earlier. Her nails had been fixed and her skin scrubed and sitting in her simple white silk gown she was ready for bed. When the maid took her leave, Kelsii nodded and sat in front of the vanity a little longer. Candle-light casted and glowed against her skin, making it turn a yellowish shade. Leaning forward, she blew it out, and smoke curled from the blackened wick. The room was black, but she knew her room so well she was easily able to find her bed and crawl into it's cool sheets. Curling up, she waited for her warmth to seep through the covers and lull her to sleep.

~~~~~~MORNING~~~~~~~
Morning was always eventful in the castle, maids switching shifts, knights switching shifts, breakfast being made, people waking up. Things to do for the day, for the maids it was cleaning and preparing the royals. For the guards it was checking every corner of the castle, doing a easy sweep. For the gardeners it was finding their tools and beginning their jobs. Kelsii was awoken to light, as always, when the curtains of her room were drawn and the melodic voice of Elle sang a silly 'wake up, wake up' song about bird chirping and wind chimes chiming and everyone awaiting the princess's return. Elle had said her mother had sung it to her when she too was young, the reason Elle was her first maid because she had also lost her mother at an unrightful age. Dressing in her white, she asked the maids to put her in an outfit right for the town. A princess cut dress that was all white lace and cotton, with beading at the square cut bust and puffy short sleeves was chosen. It was simple, ellegant, and slightly too big as it had been her mothers. Placing a cloak over it, a violet color, and her ever so popularly known silver locket necklace she was ready for the day.
"Good night princess!" Lux called as Kelsii closed her door. Upon it shutting she traded glances with Jeff, the man in the chair.
"Yer sumfin new." Jeff commented, looking Lux up and down. "Bit short for a knight, eh?" Lux, who was still glowing with vigor and excitement did not take the time to get angry at the man's teasing comment.
"Yeah, I am something new." Lux grinned as she spun around and gave the other man a theatrical salute before strutting off.
Humming, Lux made her way to the barracks. Most of the knights and guardsmen had homes that they returned to at the end of the day. Some, however, did not have homes and families to return to so they lived at the barracks- a set of stone apartments on the outskirts of the castle grounds. Lux found Leo and some other men waiting out front when she arrived.
"Can it be true?" Leo demanded, and Lux could see that he was fraught with jealousy. "You on the princess's personal guard? How did you manage to-?"
"Easy, I saved her life." Lux replied and the group of men went into an uproar of commotion. "I grabbed her just as a vase was about to fall. I saw it and I saw her, and I just... sensed it."
"Oh so it was luck." Leo replied in a relieved tone, hushing the group. Lux scowled.
"No, it was intuition."
"No difference. And the princess?"
"She's beautiful. But I have to go to sleep now, I'm meeting with her again in the morning." Lux answered and shoved through the group. She should've known they wouldn't want to give her any credit. She knew she had won her place at Princess Kel's side and that was all that mattered.
After a few pleas to tell more about the castle and the princess, Lux finally made her way up to her tiny room and bolted the door. The room was very sparse- a wooden floor, a small cot, a tiny window, and a formidable armoire. She made sure the window was covered and began to undress. She took off her chestplate, armguards, and so on, then her chainmail, then her tunic. She squeezed her eyes shut and began to unravel the long cotton bandage she used to bind her breasts every day. A wave of relief washed over her as the last of it came off. She stretched her arms over her head and sighed in relief before pulling on her night clothes and falling into bed.
As with all other days, Lux was up well before sunrise. She bathed and dressed in the quiet secrecy of early morning and went off to meet up with Kelsii. The guards at the front doors let her in with no question so they must have been informed of her new station. She jogged up the stairs happily and knocked on the princess's bedroom door. When she opened it, Lux drank in the sight with wonder.
"You look gorgeous." She breathed, admiring the way the pale colors matched Kelsii's pale complexion. "Shall we head out?"
"Carefully." Kit complained as the maid gathered her hair into a bun on the back of her head. "Stop it. Just... Let me do it." Her fingers slipped up to the white strands and pulled out the pins that kept it in place. "It looks so much better-" Elle said, a little aggravated her work was being undone. "I'm going to town, not to a ball!" Letting down the wrapping of ribbon pale blond locks fell back from their tightly wound spot on the top of her head, down to her shoulders. A knock on the door caused Kelsii to jump up. "Ah. Go, go! Into my powder room! Come out a couple minutes after the door closes!" She hushly rushed pushing Elle into the door that connected to her room before very quietly closing it shut. Gliding over to the second and only other door with a silver knob she turned it with a light hand and pushed it open with a smile. It was Lux, not her father. "Oh hello." She said, a bit of her surprise. His sudden words made her blush and shy away. "Ah, thank you. Not so bad yourself." The words were almost mumbled at the knight, her eyes on the wall. "We should head out. I am hungry!" She decided. "Ah, but first." Quickly she backtracked into her room and placed the crown on her head from her messy vanity. The tiara was silver with diamond and amethyst stone carefully places in loops around it. Rushing back and closing the door behind her she grabbed onto his arm. "Hopefully we don't run into father." She said in a low voice, almost rushing down the stairs.
Lux beamed when Kelsii said she was 'not so bad.' Or, perhaps it wasn't the words as the way she said them, all pink and flustered. Lux waited and saw that Kelsii returned with a tiara. Somehow it made her look even more regal than she already was. She looked simultaneously intimidating and infinitely corruptible. "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye out." Lux assured her with a wink.
They descended the stairs quickly and nearly ran out the great hall and to the carriage that waited for them. Lux assisted Kelsii into the carriage and followed after. She had never been in such a posh vehicle and marveled at the soft seats and the immaculate decorating. "So why is it that you like this particular tavern, princess?" She asked, referring to their present destination.
When the carriage driver gripped rhe silver twisted handle and closed it behind the knight Kelsii leaned back. On the far left hand wall there was a basket. Inside were two glasses wrapped in cloth atop of a dark red wine and a knife Kelsii kept personally for her own protection. "Of course mostly its because they serve such fine versions on peasants basic food. Also its because the tavern is owned by a woman and not a man. When they turn this place into a bar at night even a woman is the bartender. Its nice to know we can occupy many jobs with little ridicule because we do our jobs so well."
Smiling brightly she turned to the handsome young man. "Atlas. You do not understand these simple pleasures. Of just kknowing your kind can hold a good job and not be barked at. I supposed to you it seems pathetic. To me though it inspires. It inspires change that may one day happen that Imay be educated without male backlash from the community as when I was young. I should hold my tongue though. I do not mean to offend you." Kelsii would rather not be slapped today for her cheeky words.
