It had all happened so quickly, the gun fire, the screams. He hated loud sounds so he spent what felt like hours curled up inside the military vehicle with his hands over his ears and tears falling down his face. That's when he felt them, the undead slowly moving closer to the racket. He could feel the connection as they got closer though it seemed like the raiders and military officers didn't notice. As soon as they were close enough he was about to form the connection, possessing them with his mind to drive them into the heart of the fire fight. Soon there was more screaming as the zombies attacked. Some fled so they wouldn't get bitten, others stayed to fire their remaining bullets at the horde. This part lasted longer than the first but finally the gunfire stopped as well as the screaming. Tekkie opened his eyes and slowly made his way out of the vehicle, now surrounded by the dead on the ground and the undead that still walked.

All was quiet in the early morning. A cool, gentle breeze flowed between the trees like all was calm. The peaceful silence was broken by loud foot steps crunching over the leaves on the forest floor. A man was weaving his way between a patch of dense trees, a small horde of the undead on his heels. He was growing tired and desperately searching for a way out of the mess he got into. Jason stumbled and bumped into a thick tree. It was a split second decision but he began to climb.

The zombies caught up mid climb to the panicked survivor. They reached up, grabbing at his legs and back pack. Jason yelled out of fear, his cries echoing off through the woods. More dead were stumbling their way towards his cries. He shrugged one of the straps of his back pack off his shoulder, letting the grabbing zombies pull it down. He managed to kick away the rest and free himself enough to climb higher into the tree. Luckily for Jason there was a branch big enough to sit on and rest.

Jason look down to the group of walkers at his feet. The horde was growing larger from all the noise he made getting to safety. He noticed his pack had ripped when it was torn from him. All the supplies he gathered in his last run were scattered at the feet of the dead.

"Well...shit.." He breathed out, groaning low. "Shit!" Jason yelled out louder, hitting the tree with his fist out of frustration.

It all felt hopeless for him at that point. Jason leaned into the trunk and wiped the sweat away from around his sky blue eyes, anxiously running his fingers through his greasy brown hair. He pulled his sleeves up on his dirtied black hoodie to check for any injuries. Then over his blue denim jeans and felt his sides and chest. Nothing hurt other than his sore muscles and lungs from all the sprinting. He then just sat there, thinking the situation over in his head, wondering how he'd get out of this mess. He has been in tight situations in the past and there had always been a way out. "Guess I'm waiting this one out." Jason commented to himself.

More time passed before the first sound of gun fire cut through the woods. The gunfire continued, more and more shots like a big fire fight was happening. Jason noticed the horde starting to lose interest in him and head towards the noise. He covered his mouth, trying to hold in a nervous / happy laugh. Jason watched as more and more of the zombies wandered away from around the tree. He could tell that whoever was firing off those guns met the horde just from the different screams.

A few moments passed and he found his opening. Jason quickly climbed down the trunk and looked over his supplies. Most were trampled and useless now. He managed to salvage a few flares he found and a bar of chocolate, both of which he shoved into his jeans pocket. The screaming and the last of the gun fire ceased by now. Jason was already turning the opposite way until he stopped himself. He struggled with his conscience for a few brief seconds then headed towards where he heard the guns. Someone could be alive. Jason couldn't live with himself if he left other survivors if he could have helped.

He made it through to the edge of the woods, seeing a military truck parked on the road. The ground was littered with corpses. Only the dead walked now. Jason crouched down, trying to stay low to hopefully avoid another incident like before. He almost didn't notice the kid walking around among the others. Jason almost wrote it off as another zombie. The kid didn't look like one of them though. He wasn't bloodied or walking differently. Jason studied him closer, only confirming for himself that he was right. That there was a child walking near those things. There were only about five zombies still standing and they were spread out. If he was quick he could get them all without too much trouble.

Jason pulled his knife from his holster, an old kitchen knife that had proven useful so far. He crept up to closest zombie and jabbed the knife straight into the skull. Jason yanked it out and quickly moved to the next and took it out quickly like the first. Now the zombies noticed him and were coming towards him. The first in the row he avoided as it lunged forward with its arms stretched out. Jason let it stumble as he dealt with the more immediate threat coming at him. He thrust the knife up through the front of the zombie's face. His knife got stuck as he tried to pull it out again. Jason had to let go and step back to avoid the other zombie lunging towards him.

Three down, two to go. He glanced over the corpses on the blood stained ground, searching for a weapon while keeping an eye on the threats in front of him. He spotted a hatchet on a raider's body nearby and walked quickly to it. Jason scooped it up and immediately attacked the nearest zombie, dispatching that threat. One left.. He got a bit eager and attacked a little too soon. The hatchet got stuck in the top of the head but the zombie was still going. Jason struggled to wiggle it out, having to kick the leg of it to get it to fall down and off the hatchet. This time he swung with more certainty and took care of the final one walking around them.

Jason slid the hatchet into the holster he had for his old knife and carefully walked up to the boy. He could tell he was alive and frightened. "Hey... it's alright kid.." He said, glancing around them just to make sure there were no more on the way. "Those things aren't going to hurt you now." Jason tried to sound calm through his somewhat heavy breaths.

Tekkie could tell that someone was there just by the reaction of the zombies around him. He could feel them being picked off, the connection being broken with them as they fell. He wasn't too sure about this new stranger, they were quiet and quick but he was sure that all the military people who had handled him were dead. His blind eyes would follow the stranger, knowing where he was due to his footsteps and the falling zombies. Tekkie didn't say anything, simply standing and watching the scene. Finally it was over, the last zombie had fallen and the stranger crept towards him.

At first Tekkie was unsure if the stranger would be a threat or not, he knew the raiders would kill him sooner than look at him. He crept back to the military vehicle where he had hidden from the gunfire, but he wasn't sure where the door was so he simply huddled against it, preparing for the worst. He was small for his age so he probably looked to be a preteen even though he was 16, the scientist figured it might have something to do with the zombie virus though no one was really sure.

Tekkie would blink as he heard the other speak to him. He sounded kind, not like any of the raiders he had heard during the attack, they all sounded mean and scary. He would glance towards the man's voice, his cloudy eyes not being able to see him though he could sense the still healthy energy around him. He wasn't infected so Tekkie wouldn't be able to control him. People always scared him more than the zombies did. He could make them do what he wanted but people had their own will. He only let out a soft whimper, not use to talking to anyone but some of his caretakers, and even then he rarely spoke.

Jason watched as the boy in front of him crept back towards the truck. He stopped his advance to give the kid some space and held up his hands slowly to try and show the kid he wasn't going to hurt him. It wasn't until after the fact that he noticed the cloudy look in the boy's eyes. The realization that he was blind hit him. Jason lowered his hands but kept his distance for now, especially when he heard his soft whimper. Nothing he did visibly would help calm him down.

"It's okay... I'm not going to hurt you." He said again gently, looking the boy over and then glanced around the area again to make sure they were safe. Jason turned his attention to the frightened child once again, biting at his lip while he attempted to think of something to say.

A brief moment passed and he spoke again. "My name is Jason," He paused a few seconds. "Could you tell me your name?"

It would take a minute or two before Tekkie calmed down. He knew that if the guy hadn't killed him yet then they probably weren't going to. He could hope so anyways. He would continue to glance towards the other though he didn't move any closer. Once the other asked him for his name, though, he seemed to perk up. He would walk around the vehicle until he was able to find the opened drivers side door. He climbed in and began to look around. If the other would come closer he would be able to see supplies like ammo, bottled water, and other different things that would be useful. Tekkie would feel around until he managed to find the glove box. He opened it and pulled out several files of paper. He would run his hands over the paper which had braille and he finally found the one that had his file. He would wiggle back out of the car, hopping down and made his way over to the other. The file held his name as well as notes on his condition, his immunity to the virus, as well as where the military was taking him.

After his question Jason noticed the tension in the boy ease up, watching as he felt around the truck and went into the open door. Jason decided to come closer, standing near the driver's door and peered into the vehicle. A stunned choke came out when he noticed all the supplies that were stored inside. It was much more than he'd gathered on his last supply run. There were boxes of water and military rations that could last them both a long time. All the ammo would very useful as well.

He stepped aside from the door as the kid slid out of the truck, seeing the papers he was holding out for him. Jason took the files and began looking through. At the very top of the page he noticed the boy's name, along with his picture. He continued reading and his eyes widened as he took in the information. Jason closed the file and looked down Tekkie. He was still reeling with the new information, thoughts forming and going quickly in his mind. If Tekkie really was immune, how could he leave the kid all alone? How could he leave him even if a cure wasn't possible? He would need to take him to Washington then... But a military escort couldn't protect him so how could just one guy do it?

Jason breathed out, trying to calm his racing thoughts. "Okay Tekkie..." He began, setting the file down on the chair of the driver's seat. "I know this morning has been rough for you," Jason paused again to look around, seeing all the corpses of the escort, the raiders and other undead. "I'm no where near being a military man. But if you trust me, I can help get you to the scientists."

Tekkie would blink up at the other before looking around. He couldn't see the carnage but he could smell it, and the residual energy off the undead still attracted his attention. Once the other had looked over the file and sat it down he would glance back up at him for a moment, seeming to still be able to track faces even if he was blind. As the other spoke he would tilt his head, glancing down and fiddling with his fingers. He would listen to the other, even if it didn't seem like it. After a long moment of silence he would move close to the other, wrapping his small arms around the others waist. He seemed more scared of being alone than he was nervous of this stranger. He wasn't sure where he was suppose to be going with the military but they were gone now, and if he didn't want to be alone he had to go with the other.

He watched Tekkie patiently, observing how he seemed to know where Jason was looking despite being blind. The file had said the kid had some level of autism. It was becoming a bit more obvious the more he spent with him. Jason saw him stepping closer and felt his arms around his waist. With a bit of hesitation he pat Tekkie's back lightly.

"Alright... I'll take that as a yes." He looked into the truck, not seeing the keys in the ignition. 'They could be on one of those military guys.' Jason thought to himself. "Tekkie, go ahead and wait in the truck. I'm going to find the keys and gather up anything I think we could use before we go. Okay?" He looked down at the boy and waited for him to acknowledge the statement or to pull away.

Once Tekkie at least let go, Jason started his search for the truck keys. He stepped lightly around the corpses, being careful even though they were all seemingly taken care of. Jason knelt down next to the closest agent, feeling around the pockets and looking over the bullet ridden tactical vest. No keys. Jason took what ammo he could gather just in case and proceeded to the next and the next. Finally he found the keys on who appeared to be the captain. Jason tried to quickly snatch them up but the clip was stuck to the guy's belt. He struggled with the clip a little, finally getting it off but stumbling back and landing on his ass. Jason grunted lightly but began to stand up.

All of a sudden his leg was grabbed by the captain, the corpse coming back to life right as he was standing. "AH! Shit!!" Jason yelled out, getting startled from it. He acted quickly and stomped on the corpse's head as hard as he could repeatedly until it stopped moving. The zombie still had a grip on his ankle, and all the noise he caused roused others around him that weren't killed all the way. Jason tried not to panic as he was pulling himself off of the zombie's grip. He made sure the key was with him as he made a break for the truck.

Tekkie let go of the other and made his way over to the truck, he wiggled over the drivers seat until he was in the passengers. He would look around before leaning out of the window to wonder where the other went. He could hear him moving around but it was difficult for him to tell where the other was. That's when he felt it, let out out a soft yelp to warn the other but it was too late. The zombies were already getting up and moving towards Jason. He would let out a soft whimper and struggled with the handle of the door. As the door swung open he let out a squeak of alarm, being dragged out of his seat as the door swung open. He landed with a flop on the pavement, whimpering a bit as he climbed onto his hands and knees and did his best to move towards the other. He finally sprang to his feet and raced over to the other as the zombies closed in. He managed to wiggle between the zombies and stand in front of Jason. He would hold out his hands and the zombies would slowly stop as if they had been called to a holt. After a few moments Tekkie would wave his hands as if to shoo them off. And the zombies actually turned around and stumbled off.

During his rush to the truck Jason stumbled over some of the bodies that littered the ground just trying to avoid the ones grabbing at his feet. He nearly fell flat on the ground, catching himself on his right knee and flailed as he tried to get on his feet as fast as he could. It was as he was kneeling on the ground that Jason noticed Tekkie running out from the behind the passenger door of the truck. Before he could say anything the kid was behind him. Jason turned in time to see Tekkie's arms held up and the zombies starting to slowly turn away from them.

"Wow... Thank you." Was all he could figure out to say. He remembered it said something about controlling the zombies in the file, but it just seemed too hard to believe. Well it all felt to hard to believe.

Jason got to his feet and put his hand on Tekkie's shoulder. "Let's go before they decide to turn around."

Tekkie would tilt his head as he watched the zombies meander away. Some of them had been the military agents that were suppose to protect him, though he didn't seem to notice the difference between one zombie and another. Once Jason got to his feet he looked up at him before turning back to the vehicle. He would feel his way along the side of the car until he made his way to the open door and climbed in. It would take him a minute to close the door and then begin to fiddle with his seat belt. It took him a few tries before he finally got it. Once he was secured in he would glance at the other from the passengers seat, a slight smile crossing his face. He was ready to leave all the gun fire and screaming behind, though he honestly didn't know where they were going.

Jason made his way to the truck, settling down in the driver's seat and putting on his own seat belt. It had been a little while since he had driven. Although the roads were fairly empty now-a-days so it didn't really matter. He closed his driver door and proceeded to turn over the engine with the key. It fired up rather quickly without much trouble. Jason sighed with relief and looked around to see if it was a manual or auto. Again to his luck it was an automatic. He shifted into reverse, getting them out of there and turned the truck around. Jason planned on driving until they found a street sign so he could get them on track for Washington.

Tekkie would feel around as they drove. He was use to being in the back seat so riding shot gun was a bit new to him. He would feel around the dash board and at the door before he finally found what he wanted. He pressed a button, causing the window to go down just a bit. He rolled it down until it would blow wind on his white hair and smiled, leaning up so that he could feel the wind in his face. This seemed to please him for awhile as he let the wind blow in his face, every now and then reaching up a small hand to feel the wind on his fingers.
