There weren't many people that Lux felt entirely comfortable with, but Solara was the exception. She enjoyed spending time with the other girl, and the walk to Tranquility was infinitely more bearable when the conversation was good and interesting. A trust also seemed to exist between them, and Lux knew exactly how her friend felt about Nolan. It made it easier to smile at the boy, like the cat that ate the canary, knowledge was power and Lux wasn't lacking in secrets. Luckily, she wasn't the type to spoil anything, but a little bit of poking and prodding never hurt.

"No?" She asked, one dark eyebrow raised as her arm remained looped with Sola's, "you have to get on it then. There's only so much time before we have to go." Although the festival was important, and it would have been nice to have a free night, Lux looked forward to mission runs.

Before she could make another comment, though, her plans for the night were turned upside down. Standing there in her jeans and grubby shirt, it was hard to compete with the others who had come so beautifully prepared—pretty girls, with elegant faces like Veda. "What?" she asked, getting a sense that Solara wanted to be alone with Nolan for a while. "Are you sure?" It was a silly thing to be asking, because if it were up for debate, it would have come as a question and not a suggestion. Shaking her head and feeling rather awkward, Lux unlinked her arm from her friend and took a step back. "Yeah, I mean, if you don't need the help."

Always thinking of herself as a leader, Lux wasn't used to being told where to be and when. She didn't want to ruin things for Sola, though, and didn't want the slight to turn into some kind of scene. "You two lovebirds have fun in the forest then," she grinned, perhaps even a little biting. "Don't do anything I wouldn't!" Lux waved herself off, slipping off from the rather large group to blend deeper into the festival.

Across the way, there was a poorly-watched table of alcohol that was begging to be picked over, and if her bag wasn't full of pills that night, bottles would do just fine. She slipped through the crowd, not bothering to look back with her blushed cheeks, bothered by the occurrence. She saw a few familiar faces hanging around anyway, and tried to convince herself that the night wasn't a total loss.

Vio Selby

Vio narrowed her eyes again at the older woman, although not visible in the dimly lit street. It was one of those things she did when she was thinking, it blocks out the lights that made it hard to think. Vio was smart, or at least smarter than most people who are under the control of a Patch. She can easily tell it when people are lying, not because of intelligence, but simply due to the fact that people in Tranquility are just so bad at telling lies nearly anyone can see through them. Under the dim lights, the girls examined her teacher's expression a little more. She looked worried, as if her spacing out in front of a wall is some sort of crime.

Elisa Lowry stopped in her tracks as Vio said those words. 'They're definitely affecting her.' Vio thought silently. She can tell how these words were distracting to Ms. Lowry, it was like they were controlling her, giving her chills and panic attacks. Vio felt something odd too, she can feel her heart beating a little faster when those words came out of her mouth. She wasn't one to panic, or to be controlled, it has been a few years since she's felt her heart beating at such as pace. The teacher answered her question though, in a professional, official type of way. The Tranquility type of way.

Vio's eyes went from narrowed to closed in the middle of Elisa's lecture. Like many times in actual class. That wasn't the answer she wanted, obviously. 'Really? Perhaps you can fool a first year with that type of speech.' Vio waited patiently as her teacher's little lesson went on. Her tone was mechanical, just like when she taught the curriculum in school every day. As her speech finished she again told Vio to go home, but stayed in her spot herself. As if she is waiting for a response from her student.

"Too much time huh?" Vio said almost inaudibly. "Well if doing this is someone having too much time and not contributing to society..." She pointed back at the alleyway with her thumb. "...Then what does it say about someone who spent who knows how long in front of those. I'll go home now, I guess, it's not like I'm learning anything new."

Vio didn't wait in the same spot for a response, instead, she did as previously instructed. She turned away and started to walk toward the direction of her home. It was a trick of course. Her observations told her that Patched people have a hard time hiding their guilt. She did deliberately try to upset her teacher, she couldn't do anything about it without ruining her own image either. But she stopped to say one thing. Vio wanted to risk it, she wanted to risk other finding out about her Patch, to risk her whole life as she knew it. Because of one far-fetched guess that her homeroom teacher might have a Patch malfunction somewhere too.

"...Ms.Lowry, if for some reason I can't show up to your class anymore...what would you think?"

Anyone else would've likely noticed Lux's soured attitude at Sola's "suggestion," but Nol wasn't always the most emotionally perceptive person in the world. Not for the lack of emotional acuity, of course, as he was certainly capable in that arena when he wanted to be, but rather due to his somewhat self-absorbed tendencies. In that moment, he was far too absorbed in his own thoughts to pay much attention to those of the people around him. Still, a sense of relief washed over him like a placating wave. While Nolan certainly didn't mind the additional company (the more the merrier, in his book), he always found the walk to Tranquility most soothing when it was just the two of them. He and Sola were a team - and a successful one, at that. They knew each other better than anyone else and that was what made them such a compatible and strong duo.

"You two lovebirds have fun in the forest then. Don't do anything I wouldn't!" Lux called out before slipping away from the group and settling near the table where the alcohol was laid out. 'Don't do anything I wouldn't'? "...What the hell does she mean by that?" Nol muttered under his breath, perplexed and feeling a tad bit sheepish. More importantly, what was Lux trying to imply? Nolan bit his tongue at the implications behind Lux's words and the somewhat cutting tone that accompanied them. Hopefully she wouldn't be too upset for the rest of the night.

At that moment, Nolan would've much preferred to be out in the forest, making his way to Tranquility, than be standing there among a sea of people beneath the glowing lights, which felt particularly exposing at that point. Luckily enough for him, the timing of everything was in his favor. With the festival well underway and the dance portion of the night beginning, it was about time for him and Sola to be off. The trek to Tranquility was a long one without taking into account anything that could transpire within the walls of the city while they were there. It was awfully unfortunate that they had to be off at Nolan's favorite part of the night and Nol hadn't gotten a single dance, but oh well - nothing could be done about that. Duty came first (as much as it annoyed Nol - he never was one for responsibility back in the Diamond) and, after all, there would be more festivals. "Hey, Sola," Nol said, nodding his head towards the direction of the forest, "We should get going, right?"
