History

Surrounding a star in a galaxy far away from Earth-Alpha are a number of exo-planets suitable for human life. Found during humanity's golden age, it was thought to be the holy grail of scientific discoveries, the new cradle of humanity. A movement was begun to begin emigrating from the heavily industrialized sectors of earth, leaving the gleaming utopian cities for the elite of the elite, and create a new human condition in a new sector. However, such was not to happen the way it was planned.

Halfway through the creation of the generation vessel that would be used to transport the colonists to their home, there was an incident. From the sun came beings of fire and destruction, beasts that were undoubtedly demons from books of old. They wielded weapons like nothing anyone had ever seen, and their size was that of two humans each. They were beaten back that time, but it wasn't the last seen of these 'Xed'.

They came again. And again. Time after time they were beaten back from their attacks on the colony ship, time after time with greater numbers and weapons. And so the humans had to build their own weapons. They started with great lumbering warmachines called Mechs, with inbuilt weapons and heavy armor the size of a Xed. From there they were adapted and reformed into smaller exoskeletons, barely larger than a human but nimbler; less firepower, but still effective.

Eventually the rich and powerful had enough. They began to fund their own mission, creating a vessel that ws planned to reach the exoplanets many years before the colonists. They pulled their exosuits from the fight, leaving militaries with mechs and conventional weapons to destroy the Xed menace. However it could not be destroyed, and a much more deadly problem came to light: The Xed's presence seemed to coincide with solar acceleration, the Sun leading closer and closer to going supernova.

Eventually the heavily-augmented elite humans left their doomed planet, soaring on an anti-matter engine towards the far-off exoplanets. This left the rest of humanity to fight a losing battle, with a dwindling amount of mechs and weapons. Finally, the colony ship was able to leave with its cargo of humans and mechs, and as it was propelled away, the sun... it went. The wave threw everything into disarray, shooting the ship faster than it was meant to, frying sensors and generally messing things up. After years of travel, both human ships arrived at the same time, but upon different halves of the same planet.

The metahumans, with their bio-mechanical augments, landed peacefully and quickly began to settle their new planet with their advanced technology and resources.

The Omega Terrans, on the other hand, crashed in their giant colony ship, causing many deaths. However, all was not lost. They still had sufficient technology to create a colony in the wreckage, as well as the means to survive and create what had become neccesity. They also had the means of making more mechs, many of which had been destroyed in the crash...

The Metahumans and Omega Terrans soon contacted one another, but given the human propensity to hold a grudge, they soon began to war on one another. The mecha were nimble and piloted by skill, but the colonists began to fight back using old mechs. They began to create more. The stable, powerful workhorses kept everything stable, one side never getting the upper hand.

Sadly, that was not the only war to fight. It seemed that the Xed had followed the humans from their own galaxy into this one, and began to infest the planet and the space around it, twisting some of the planet to their own monstrous form. Thus it became a war on three fronts. And in it all, there came a new ally, and threat. They were called Lumis by the Metahumans, Celestials by the Omega Terran, but in either case they were made of pure, solid energy.

Where the Xed were the size of mechs, it seemed as if the Lumis took forms similar to those of the exosuits. They didn't seem to have any settlements, they only just appeared. They would always oppose the Xed, but as humans began to tread outwards they were also accosted by the Lumis, who would also assist either side. This keeps both factions guessing at their motives - assuming they have any.

And this is where we are now.

Factions

Omega Terran
: Colonists from old Terra, living in the supercity that is built from their old vessel. It's many years old, and much of it has become unexplored and lost. They live more simply than their enemies, and build their mechs in the ship's factories. This is most likely the player faction, and their mechs are inspired by battletech/mechwarrior.

Metahumans: The elite of the elite from old Terra, willing to augment their bodies and minds with technology. They live in a quick-built city built with advanced technology. They create exosuits in the same way for their fights and other jobs, and live extravagantly. Their exosuits are modeled after gundam and generally anime mecha.

Xed: The mortal enemy of humans (excluding one another) they are beings of fire and death, of mutated biology and something out of a twisted nightmare. They are modeled after the larger Tyranids of Warhammer 40k/Zerg from Starcraft mixed with demons and similar.

Lumis/Celestials: Beings of pure energy that create solid forms similar to those of the Metahuman's exosuits. Their forms are at times of ease inconsistent before forming solidly in combat. They are unknowable, but can be communicated with - however so much of them is unknown, so one should always take precautions. These are modelled after... nothing I can think of.
