Darkest Light

Kana smiled after Elidi, grateful for her help. It occurred to him in that moment that they might do this often in the future with visiting dignitaries, nobles, foreign diplomats...but as rulers themselves. It made him look after the Light Elf for a long minute, picturing her as a Queen and Kana found that he liked the image greatly. She would make a wonderful monarch and he couldn't wait to be by her side, as her husband.

In the meantime...

Kana moved over to Ascal and for a moment, he hesitated, but telling himself that nothing negative was going to happen, the Dark Prince touched the Light Prince on the shoulder. Having gained his attention, he spoke quietly, meeting the other male's eyes. "Ascal, I must speak with you about Sefarana." In all truth, it wasn't much of a request and it was the first time Kana would have taken that particular tone with Ascal.

But this WAS his sister and if Ascal had spoken in such a way to him about Elidi, he would have listened.

Sefarana smiled a little at the second Prince but while the expression didn't hold the hidden amusement her smile for Ascal had, it was friendly enough anyway. She extended her hand and shook Hasterien's own with a firm, but gentle grip. "Prince Hasterien. I have heard of your prowess in battle. I must admit I admire your techniques."

If there were three things that caught Sefarana's eye, they were the art of fighting, intelligence and respect. She desired all three and when she found someone worthy, she extended all three.

Asal turned to Ekanath when he felt fingers at his shoulder. His words caught his attention immediately, not knowing if it was a brotherly warning Kana was about to give or something else, but he nodded, hearing the less-requesting tone in his voice and a more-demanding one. He then led the Dark Prince away from the family gathering where they could speak in private without risking anybody to overhear.

"What is it?" he asked.

Hasterien's smile widened as he felt Sefarana shake his hand with a firm yet gentle grip. She was very strong indeed. "Ah, thank you very much," he said. "Though I've heard of you, too, how you are the greatest archer in both of our kingdoms, and how strong of a warrior you are."

Kana took a deep breath at Ascal's question. Now that they were alone, he was struggling a bit more with his courage. By reminding himself that Ascal was NOT Ivordir - he wasn't in any danger now that he was alone with the Prince - he finally spoke, looking the Light Prince in the eye. "I can see you hold some interest in my sister. I would warn you; not away from her, but to be cautious. Sefarana is not above humiliating those who pursue her against her wishes. She is ruthless in her displeasure even as she is unfailing in her loyalty."

The Dark Elf smiled a little. "I would merely caution you to tread lightly. Hasterien and Elidi's interruptions were actually for your own good. If you want have any kind of chance with Sefarana, even to get to know her, do not alienate her from her family right away."

Kana grinned then. "Other than that....I wish you luck!"

Sefarana beamed and if either of her brothers had been inclined to risk her wrath, they would have said that she preened under such praise. Needless to say, Itaete said nothing when he glanced over and Kana wouldn't have done so either. Nayali was not above coming into the conversation, though - she seemed fine with bouncing from conversation to conversation without prejudice - and the smaller Princess came to her sister's side, taking Sefarana's hand with a smile.

"You should see her ride! She does all that jumps at home and shoots at the same time. It's amazing!"

"Nayali..." the older Princess said with a playful warning, but Nayali only grinned and looked toward where Ascal and Kana had gone. "Does your brother ride, Hasterien?"

Ascal's aqua eyes met Ekanath's golden ones, and as he began to speak, he listened with all his attention. He smiled a bit; pretty much everybody could tell when he took an interest in a lady and he wasn't really ashamed of it. But the Dark Elf was warning him to be cautious around Sefarana, saying that she was a ruthless woman when it came to her displeasure and somehow, the Light Prince already knew that. He smiled a bit, finding that Sefarana would be a challenge indeed, but one that he would definitely have fun with and hopefully the Dark Princess would as well.

So he had to work with her through her family? Ascal could do that. He smiled and nodded to Kana. "Thank you, Ekanath. I will do my best."

Elidi noticed the way Sefarana beamed at Hasterien's response and at this point, she thought that the two could become very close friends. Nayali was soon between them, though, holding on to her older sister's hand cutely.

Hasterien raised his brows as the new voice cut in, realizing it was Nayali and then smiling. "Ascal rides, yes. Often, actually. Several hours a day, always comes home in a sweat. He doesn't arch, but Elidi does," he smiled, touching his sister's shoulder lightly.

Kana nodded back with a slight smile and both he and Ascal made their way back over to the group of young elves, noting that Nayali was already glancing between the Light Prince and her sister with a mischievous grin. The Dark Prince rolled his eyes lightly before giving a whistle that had his sister perking up, dodging around Sefarana and racing toward him. Kana smiled and caught her up, placing her on his hip as she wrapped her legs around his waist and small arms around his neck, blinking curiously. Kana only ever called her in such a way when he had something to say to just her.

Gold eyes looked into gold with a playful warning. "Let things work out as they will, little icehopper."

"But-"

"Ah."

"Kana-"

"No."

Nayali pouted, huffing a sigh but at another look from Kana she relented and wiggled out of his grasp, running off when she hit the ground. The Crown Prince could not help but wonder where she got the energy. He smiled, moving back to Elidi's side in time to hear Sefarana question Ascal about when he rode and if she and her brothers might accompany him.

Kana blinked and then looked down at Elidi with a grin, whispering in her ear. "It would seem our parents had better make peace rather quickly. Else they will be out two Crown Princes." It was a clear joke and Kana's eyes shone with warmth as she placed a kiss on Elidi's forehead. He truly would do anything for her, even give up his Kingdom.

Hasterien kept the conversation going and once Ascal got back, he moved to his siblings' and Sefarana's sides. Everybody heard the whistle from Kana, but once they saw that it was Nayali he was calling, they all went back to their business; Elidi also caught sight of the way the younger princess smiled mischievously between Sefarana and Ascal, and wondered exactly what Kana was saying to Nayali, but figuring something along the lines of warning her.

When the Dark Prince moved back to his betrothed and whispered in her ear, she grinned and giggled a little bit before closing her eyes at his sweet kiss, enevolping him in a hug before smiling and pulling back as her mother spoke.

"Well, now that we've all chatted a bit, would you all like to see your rooms?" After this, everybody would most likely get ready for dinner and then the night out at the town.

Everyone was amendible to being shown their rooms and they were told dinner would be held in about an hour and a half. Sefarana was given a room with Nayali, something she actually insisted on as her sister gave her puppy-dog eyes. Itaete was given his own and then Ishan and Letinia were given another. Everyone was in the same corridor, keeping the family together, but Kana returned to the wing where Elidi's room resided after assuring his family he'd see them at dinner.

Once they were back in her room, he pulled her into his arms and sighed out slowly, burying his face into her hair. He felt such immense relief in that moment and Kana didn't realize that tears had slipped down his face until they dampened her hair. Kana kissed her head then and pulled back a little to cup Elidi's face and he pressed his lips to hers. "I love you."

His gold eyes looked into her warmer ones and Kana smiled, feeling like laughing and spinning her around, but also completely content to simply hold Elidi. He couldn't believe it had gone so well. Everything was peaceful, happy and he was partly relieved and content with it...and partly terrified that something bad was going to happen just to even everything out.

The Dark Monarch family was all kept together in the same corridor, the only person having his own room being Itaete since Sefarana was being shot down with puppy-dog eyes from Nayali. Techincally, Kana had his own room as well, but... it's not like he really used it anyway.

As Elidi move into her room along with Ekanath, she was pulled into his beautiful brown arms and she sighed with him as her arms wrapped around his back. She felt a few wet drops on top of her head and she realized that her love was crying but before she could say something, her head had been kissed and her face was being cupped. She smiled into the kiss before kissing him back. His words felt warm against her lips and one again, the feeling of happiness flooded throughout her body. "I love you, too."

"I'm happy," she said quietly, looking deep into the other golden eyes, a warm smile on her face as she stroked the side of the male's head. But, like him, Elidi was afraid that something bad was going to happen again, because that's all that had happened the first time she became happy again.

Kana could see she feared the same thing in her gold eyes despite her words - which were also true - and he moved back to the bed, sitting down upon it before scooting back and pulling Elidi with him until they were both laying down side by side and she was wrapped in his arms, head on his chest and his own resting against hers. The Dark Elf just held Elidi for a few minutes then in silence, running his fingers through her soft brown hair and his other arm wrapped around her waist.

He lifted and tilted his head a little after a time to look at her. She was absolutely breathtaking to him and Kana smiled softly, leaning down to kiss her forehead and then nose and finally mouth before he pulled back and laid against the pillows again, his fingers caressing her cheek.

"I am scared, too, little sunbeam. But I will not let anything happen to you. Not again." he promised and the gold mark under shirt flared such a bright gold that it glowed through the fabric and Kana smiled again.

Elidi followed in Kana's steps, smiling as she was pulled down beside him, laying down next to each other as she became draped in his arms. She rested her head onto his chest, listening to his heartbeat, feeling the two pulses thrive together on the two different marks. It was absolutely perfect. Her golden eyes closed briefly as she felt gentle fingers thread through her hair and she smiled slightly. The silence was... comfortable between them. It felt good to share some quiet and she inhaled his scent. She could never get enough of him.

The female knew he was looking at her, but she didn't mind it and instead moved her head up to look up at him, meet his kind eyes. He kissed her forehead, her nose, and then lips and she smiled warmly, her hand still resting on his chest but moving to his heart as his fingers caressed her ivory cheek. The Dark Elf's words made her smile widely and she leaned up to kiss him before resting back against his chest, looking at the bright gold mark through his shirt, her finger tracing the shining light. "And I promise you the same. Nobody will be ever to touch you like that again," she said, voice confident yet soft, and she snuggled up close to him, her hand traveling to his hip and off the edge of his side to rest there as she closed her eyes. "I love you."

Kana smiled and he leaned down to kiss the top of her head, holding her a bit more tightly as they let the silence envelope them again. It was a peaceful silence and the Dark Elf looked forward to such moments in the future. A future with Elidi because he truly could imagine no other.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next few months saw the beginning of change for the two kingdoms. New treaties, meetings, visits, charters, negotiations, laws....so much went into establishing peace between formally warring kingdoms, but everyone was willing. Sure, there were fights, disagreements, prejudices, but there was always someone - or more than one someone - to bring order and calm again. The two sides were determined to find some even ground before Ekanath and Elidi's union. Both Kings didn't want to leave such things to after the wedding, but wanted to establish firm ties now, leaving nothing to chance.

Both their families grew closer. Nayali was pretty much inseparable from Hasterien, letting the kind blind warrior teach her all he could and learning rather swiftly his style. Ascal and Sefarana were similiar, though, it was clear to everyone that they were heading toward something more than friendship - another reason for the Kings to get their business done sooner. Both their sons were going to be marrying in the opposite house. Surely they had to have even the barest bones of support for peace before that happened.

Itaete had taken a shine to Eluchon and while the guard remained ever loyal to Kana, the two elves were often in debate about one thing or another. And the Queens, well, they were busy and happy about wedding arrangements. Thus everyone passed their time during visits rather well.

Prince Ekanath StormWolf, heir to Dynasha's throne was married to Princess Elidi GoldHealer of the Kingdom of Sanesia during the winter of that same year in Sanesia, establishing the first union between the two elven kingdoms for the first time in at least a thousand years. Their marriage was a joyous event, elves from both kingdoms invited to attend. It was a grand event, the ceremony taking place inside the grand hall of the palace as most Royal Marriages in Sanesia did amidst the rich colors of golds, reds and rich purples. In agreement, Kana and Elidi chose to have their reception outdoors, by the lake they loved so much. The celebrations lasted a week after that, a ball and festivals being held in their honor, anyone from either kingdom allowed to participate in the fun.

It went a long way in cementing the peace between the two races and at the beginning of spring, Elidi came back with Kana to Dynasha.

----------

A year saw the two married elves still happy and their kingdoms stable with each other after so long. New unions, marriages and friendships were popping up all over the place, not the least of which was Princess Sefarana's engagement to Prince Ascal of Sanesia. Kana had never seen his sister so happy and everyone had the highest of hopes that such unions as this would guarantee peace between their kingdoms for years to come.

Kana found a great peace with is inner demons, too. A year of peace and joy and safety did wonders for his psyche and he was more the Prince everyone remembered from years ago than he'd been in a long time. He moved freely among Light Elves now without fear and his family were still happy to see it when they watched him, Eluchon probably being the proudest of all after Elidi.

They visited Sanesia often; once at the beginning of summer and two months into the winter to give Elidi a break from Dynasha's colder climate and then once more at the beginning of spring so she could see everything bloom in her native land. Everyone was happy, but still busy. Allies of the two kingdoms had to be convinced to accept the other elven kingdom lest the Dark and Light Elves have the problem of a war-triangle. They didn't want any of their relationships with a neighboring kingdom or species strained because an ally of, say, the Dark Elves chose to go to war with the Light Elves, making the Dark Elves choose a side.

Eventually this important task was accomplished and their kingdoms were finally at peace. True peace. It would be a state their kingdoms would stay in for years to come.

Within the next few months, Sanesia and Dynasha saw several major changes within their treaties. All negotiations, laws, and treaties were sought anew in many different meetings and visits. Both Elven kingdoms wanted a solid ground before Princess Elidi's and Prince Ekanath's wedding since that would act as an official starting point in their venture towards peace. And as the two kingdoms grew closer as allies, the two royal families grew closer as one large one. Little Nayali took a liking to Hasterien and soon grew on the Prince, and he taught the young Princess all he could on his skills. Meanwhile, Ascal and Sefarana also grew closer, starting towards something more than friendship. The two Queens rekindled all the years lost, and the two Kings spent lots of time together as well - mostly as business partners, two kings in meetings, but still growing on one another.

The wedding was held in the beginning of winter that year, just to give relief of the summer and even autumn sun for the people of Dynasha since everybody of both kingdoms were invited. The marriage ceremony itself was held inside the grand hall of the Sanesia palace, the theme all rich golds, reds, and purples. The reception was held outside near the lake and the celebration lasted for an entire week, a ball and festivals being held in honor of the marriage.

In the spring, the Light Elf Princess went back to Dynasha with the Dark Prince.

A year passed and everything went just as hoped. Both kingdoms were stable in themselves and with each other, and after so long of warring and hating, the peace between the people was a giant relief and felt like a huge bag of fresh air. The two brother races interacted with one another like it was normal, and Prince Ascal and Princess Sefarana also became engaged, giving way to an even more solid era of peace.

Meanwhile, Kana had come to peace within himself with the help of the peace of the kingdoms, his new wife, and his friend Eluchon, who continued to be a great and loyal friend to both elves. Everybody was happy and proud of him, Elidi perhaps being the proudest.

The two elves visited Sanesia often though, about three times a year; once in the beginning of spring and summer, and then once two months in of the winter so Elidi could get relief from the harsh winter climate of Dynasha.

Soon allies at both ends became allies with each other and it really seemed like a new era of peace, one that each royalty was sure to last a long, long time as long as the rulers continued on the right path.
