D&D: The Genjobi Pass

Propped against the gorge wall, Fielli did her best to aid Kryx and Xenoxis as they shifted more rubble. The major rocks had been pried aside, leaving only the looser gravel. As the three worked they started to see flesh, a hand reaching up into the light. Whether it was Ayumi or Darius, they couldn't tell. But they were nearly there. [134lbs remaining]

Meanwhile, the three remaining Lemures were oblivious to the rest of the party as they mindlessly clamoured to tear the ranger apart. Shifting around the boulder where Angus stood, all three of them took the chance to slash and bite at the ranger's feet. But Angus kept on his toes, dodging or kicking them away.

He was surrounded, but he was holding out...

Sales was amazed how Angus was handling the 3 demons, the onslaght was never ending for him and he was still standing.
Sales couldn't think of anything more that he could do that will hurt these creatures, so he thought how to help Angus or hinder the demons.
Sales ran up to the closest demon and made a grap for its leg to trip it up. The demon hardly saw it comming as Sales pulled with all his might, and the demon fell hard on it back. Sales was starting to feel lucky.

Taking aim on the wounded Lemure, Karwik was surprised when he heard a sudden crash, as if something heavy had just hit the ground. Looking to the source of the noise, he was astounded to see that Sales had somehow wrestled one of the creatures off of its feet, and it was now on the ground. This had the scent of infinite possibility to it.

There was no time for switching out weapons. Instead, dropping his crossbow to the ground, Karwik switched out for his short sword and ran up to stab at the helpless creature on the ground. Rules of honor and courtesy did not apply on this battlefield, and so the rogue did not feel any remorse for attempting to harm this demon while it was down.

The blade cut down, cutting a clean gash off the creature's neck, but not enough to affect a serious amount of damage. Nonetheless, it was satisfying enough.

Fielli felt hazy still, heavy with the feeling of pain that has dissipated and the still-present throb of adrenaline in her system. Fielli steadied herself, her stance becoming more offensive and she focused again on the creatures, picking out the one that had just been hit.

Later, she would thank the man who had healed her. For now, Fielli would aid the party members. Fielli bit her lip, praying for accuracy and aligning her mind the the snake curled around her neck. Accuracy, power, don't leave me.

Angrily, Fielli's focus faltered and her blast of ice she had been preparing fell uselessly from her fingertip. Forgive me, I tried...

The ranger wasn't happy in the slightest about having become the party's impromptu defender, and this showed in his impatience.

"Damn it, get them out already!" he shouted, too frustrated to even look as he stabbed down at one of the Lemures, aware that it wouldn't do much, but at least he'd be buying them some time.

He nicked the Lemure (D4), the scimitar stopping in the crust of the demon's head, he quickly pulled back, having already got the pace of things with the Lemures, he tried to hang back as far from their claws as he could without falling from the boulder.

"I've got him!" shouted Xenoxis, throwing another rock aside and grabbing the gauntlet that protruded from the rubble. Kryx crowbarred through another swathe of debris and held it back as the rogue pulled. With a crunching sound and a cloud of dust, the figure came free, a glowing shield tumbling out behind him. [Darius free; 1784lbs remaining on Ayumi]

Coughing and staggering, Darius looked like some kind of undead abomination, his robes and armour caked in rockdust. Even his wounds were crusted with black and his skin looked deathly pale. But by bracing himself against Xenosis, he somehow found his feet.

His blood was boiling, heart racing faster as he felt the presence of unspeakable evil before him. He slapped Xenoxis on the shoulder and pushed him back towards the rockslide. "Get Ayumi out!" he rasped, his voice sandpaper-dry.

He half-staggered, half charged towards the source of evil, almost tripping over Sales and Karwik. But pure adrenaline drove him onwards towards the fiends around Angus. Snatching the falchion from his back, he brought down with both hands, yelling in rage.

"LEAVE THIS PLACE!"

The weighty blade slammed into the gorge wall above the Lemure's head, glimmering with holy light. The Lemur shrieked and recoiled, leaving Angus one-on-one. The paladin ripped the blade free and took up position next to Angus, ready to hold the line.

With Darius's aura brought into the fight, the Lemures seemed to grow more piteous and unsteady. The one beneath Sales and Karwik tried to rise again, but received a flurry of cuts and strikes as it moved. Sales's longsword seemed futile against its demonic hide, but Karwik's more savage strikes found its hamstrings and vital organs.

In front of them, another demon recoiled from Darius, slashing out at the dust-covered holy warrior to no avail. And besides this, the injured Lemure made another lunge at Angus, but was equally futile. The ranger and the paladin drove the monsters back, fighting with renewed zeal.

In response to the paladin's command, Xenoxis simply replied with a quick. "Yes, sir!" before dashing back to the pile where Kryx was already busy digging out the second rockslide victim.

[Continues to dig]

Xenoxis returned to helping Kryx, the two of them ploughing through the second half of the rockslide. Ayumi had no light to give her away, but she had to be under there somewhere. They just had to pray that her air supply would hold out.

Beside them, still leaning against the gorge wall, Fielli summoned up the last of her magic and flung it in a ball of light. It struck the closest Lemure, the one between Sales and Karwik, searing its eyes and causing it to stumble again. As it fell, the elf and the rogue continued pummelling it. As before, Sales's strikes were in vain, but he kep the creature distracted while Karwik stabbed at the weakpoints, shedding more blood and bile.

In front of them, Angus kept his place on top of the boulder, slashing down at the second Lemure but hitting only hide and dead skin. Beside him, Darius wrenched his falchion from the gorge wall and made another two-handed swing at the final fiend. He cut the demon's arm open and drove it howling back along the gorge.

The dazzled demon shifted its position, trying to get its balance and grab at Sales in mindless fury, but as it moved Karwik struck again, a killing blow to the base of the creature's spine. The demon squealed, its claws flailing short of Sales, who drove it to the ground with a kick of his boot. The demon hit the ground, twitching in its death throes.

Meanwhile, the two remaining demons slashed at the solid front formed by Darius and Angus. One of them managed at last to clamber onto the boulder and sink its teeth into the ranger's thigh. [1 damage to Angus] He cried out, and behind him Sales stumbled, feeling the pain through his magical link to the ranger [2 damage to Sales].

And opposite this, the second demon clawed at Darius's armour, its nails futile against the solid scalemail. Darius counter-attacked, twisting his falchion and lifting it in an uppercut that barely missed the slavering creature.

Fielli, feeling energized since she was healed, tried to push her way to Angus, who was being attacked. Her magic felt exhausted, the well she normally could feel flowing freely through her body with the magic reserve seemed to be running nearly dry.

Fielli knew she shouldn't take hits, but being useless wasn't much of an option. Frowning, Fielli drew her dagger and leapt lightly, trying to attack it and still be able to dodge any of its potential attacks.

As Fielli's attack missed its mark, she quietly contemplated acting as bait instead. She might be more useful.

Sales was thankful to see the creature in front of him fall dead with Karwiks dagger in it spine.
Sales was breathing hard, he needed a break, but there was still 2 more demons left. Sales moved up to where Darius was fighting one of the demons and started proding the demon with his sword to try and distract it.

[Sales is 'Aiding' Darius, +2 on next attack roll]

Karwik could not believe how the flow of battle was proceeding. They were winning, and winning quite easily. With the Lemure's slimy remains still dripping off his blade, the rogue surged forward to strike at the next one in line, currently engaged in combat with Darius. These beasts would fall, one by one, whether by his hands or his comrades'. Their fate was now sealed.

Proving once again that overconfidence was folly, the fates dictated that Karwik's blade did not find its mark at all, simply sliding off the creature's natural armor. Breathing a light curse, the rogue stumbled back to allow Darius some room to maneuver. This creature's life was apparently not his to take, at least not at the moment. He would have his turn.

"Stay back!" Angus shouted as Karwik tried to squeeze into the space where Sales and Fielli were already lending assistance. Prying the demon's jaw from his leg, he swirled his scimitar and struck in a two-handed swing. But again he hit only hide and carcass. The ranger was starting to tire, his frantic defence of the party taking its toll.

The demon kept its footing on the boulder and slashed at Angus again, but the timely knife-strikes from Fielli made it recoil. The ranger had been bought a little more time at least...

Beside them, the second Lemure made a fresh charge at Darius, scratching again at his armoured legs and waist.

Sales kicked it away and gave the paladin room for another mighty swing of his falchion. The blade struck, burying in inches of demon flesh but hardly seeming to faze the creature.

Fielli felt more useful slashing at the creatures before her, but still a little bit of a nuisance to the party, especially without her magic. She could feel it tingle, letting her know it was still there - just exhausted. Fielli tried to focus in and draw from that inner reserve some calm, something to aid her attacks.

Fielli tried to recall her lessons from so long ago, the thin words, "Your Vaydren, your magic, is part of all you do, impertinent child...."

Fielli leapt again toward the Lemure.

Yet another failure brought Fielli dangerously close to the creature as she stumbled, still too stressed to think clearly. Fielli tried to slip away from it, a scowl on her face and a distinct feeling of uselessness.

Sales went for another swipe for the demons head with his sword, but the creature moved at the wrong time and Sales sword glanced off its head.
'This is pointless, we need more force to crack the hides of these foul beasts' Sales thought after seeing everyones weapons doing little damage. As Sales glanced behind him and saw the huge Lizard-man digging away, he realised that 'it' was the answer.
Sales jumped out of battle and ran over to the Lizard-man and grabbed him by the arm and shouted 'Those things are tough demons, you are the only one who is strong enough to finish them quickly. I will carry on digging, give me the bar'

Kryx looked back at the cleric, his gaze shifting over to where Angus and Darius were faltering. The other life-giver was weak, and the boy's attacks seemed futile against the remaining beasts.

Karwik drew up beside Sales, holding out his hand for the crowbar. It seemed both humans were ready to take his place.

If he helped the Chief vanquish the demons, then the whole of this tribe could join and dig out the second life-giver...

Grudgingly, Kryx handed over the crowbar to Karwik. "Alright," he grunted, pushing past Sales and unslinging his battleaxe. There was no room to swing it in the narrow gorge, so he held it high, charging forward with an overhead swing.

"MOVE, CHIEFTAIN!" he roared, making Darius glance over his shoulder. Seeing what was coming, Darius flattened himself against the gorge wall as the Lizardman brought the axe down like a hammer...

The oversized blade slammed into the ground, cracking stone and vines, but missing the Lemure by inches. The gorge shook first with the impact, then again with the Lizardman's angry growl.

[size=-2]
Fielli eyed the people digging, instead of attacking again, she would lend her weight there. Fielli rolled her eyes, lifting chunks of rock with her gentle grip, only narrowly avoiding a deep sigh. This was not what she had in mind when she had chosen to embark on this adventure. Swamp water, maybe. Rockfall? No.

Fielli shook her head and tried to work as quickly as she could to releasse the priest.

As Kryx entered the fight, Sales, Karwik, Xenoxis and Fielli were bought enough time to get organised. Attacking the rockslide with hands, crowbar and whatever they could use, they continued shifting the rock, drawn by Ayumi's slight groans and twitches.

Meanwhile, the other three held the line against the Lemures, neither side gaining ground as they hacked and slashed at each other's armour.

With Kryx barrelling in, Darius circled around him and rushed to Angus's aid. With both hands he drove his falchion into the demon's side, burying deep and twisting. The demon squealed as more of its entrails were shed, but still it kept on fighting.

Grunting from the exertion of tearing his axe from the cracked stones, Kryx circled to the size, spitting growled curses in a rumbling tongue of dragons. To curse in the tongue of the Gods (Draconic) was perhaps the gravest insult Kryx could do these otherworldly creatures and while he doubted the softskins could understand his words, there was meaning within the snapping syllables and sibilant hisses.

Bringing his axe up to briefly cradle on a shoulder, the lizard folk swiftly brought it around in a horizantal slash meant to completely obliterate the Lemure nearest to him...flabby creature of stone and magic too great of an affront to Jalgarus to let live.

Swinging his axe around, Kryx neglected to remember his environment, the unsettled stones of the gulch sliding under his feet and sending his swing high, slicing harmlessly over the Lemures head. Stepping back and swinging with the momentum, Kryx prepared for the next strike, spitting growls fresh on his lips.
