D&D: The Genjobi Pass

Sales let out a breathe, he couldn't believe how close that was, but the sight of Darius getting buried was soul destroying.
Sales badly wanted to help to dig his friends out, but the sight of the stone creatures comming towards them kept him in place. Sales could feel fear taking over his movements but he grabbed his holy symbol which gave him comfort which helped to calm himself enough to think. Firstly we need to see what we are fighting, so Sales took a few steps forward and kelt down and placed his hand on a boulder, and he prayed for light. Suddenly the boulder start emmiting light for 20 feet allowing the group to see the creatures comming towards them.

Taking the crowbar, Kryx leaped atop the piled stones and began prying them loose and away. The settling dust somewhat masked their smell, but the lizard folk could sense them beneath his feet. He was far too absorbed in his work to pay heed to the approaching demons, muscled arms driving themselves into the stones with the crowbar, hurling stone after stone aside in a rapid pace toward a Life giver and the Tribe Chief of this motely crew.

It was only the foul stench of the demons...of rotting skin and old blood, that drew his attention momentarily to the shifting shapes sidling from the darkness.

If anything, this only renewed his effort to extricate his new comrades...knowing full well that if they were to fall here, now...that Darius and the other girl would die beneath these stones...beneath this abberation of nature.

He could not allow that to happen.

((GO KRYX! 300 lbs moved in the first round...keep em off me guys!))

Like many before him, Xenoxis turned from the horrifying sight of the demons and focussed his attention on the rockslide. Getting between Karwik and Kryx, the rogue dug with his bare hands, shifting rock as fast as he could. [50lbs shifted - 1592lbs remaining]

A short way in front, Fielli moved beside Angus and let loose a missile from her fingertips, striking the first Lemure with a blast of arcane force. A chunk of the demon's flesh was torn away, but it staggered onwards, dripping blood and bile.

The injured demon surged towards Angus, its claws falling short as it staggered to stay upright. And beside it, a second Lemure lunged at Fielli's outstretched hand, barely missing her flesh as she recoiled. And still a third rushed past Angus and slashed at Sales as he tried to retreat from the glowing boulder. Angus dropped his bow and lashed out at the passing fiend with his scimitar, but the blade simply glanced off the demonic flesh of the Lemure. Sales's arm was cut open by the demon, his blood going cold as the infernal nails bit in. [2 damage to Sales]

The remaining demons shambled behind the first three, jostling for space but constricted by the narrow walls of the gorge. Their eyes showed only mindless fury and the horror of the abyss.

Looking back at his comrades, Karwik was shocked to see that the creatures had closed in already. Drawing his short sword for his own defense, he noticed that one of the creatures had jumped ahead to attack Sales, dealing him a harsh blow, but nothing that was especially deadly. What was important about it was that by doing so, the Lemure had left itself open for a strike. Weaving over sideways so as to be standing by its flank, the rogue lifted up his sword and plunged it down at the creature's side.

The creature shrieked out in pain as the blade cut a nasty line through its skin. Grinning in satisfaction, Karwik twisted his sword a little, widening the hole he made, with an accompanying expression of discomfort from the Lemure. "You're finished, beastie. Time to die," he said slowly, pulling his blade out with a nicely messy sound. This little pound of flesh he exacted here more than made up for his silliness with the birds at the start of this little adventure.

(D3 now has 3 health.)

Blinking, it took Sales a little time to get used to the light change he had caused in the confined area they were in. In that time he didn't see the creature that charged at him, and Sales felt a cold shuddering pain in his arm as the creature lashed out at him.
It took the sight of Karwik attack the creature to break him out of the shock of the injury, a natural instinct made him reach down and draw his long sword, and with both hands on the hilt he brought the sword over his head and with a yell put all is might into a downward slash at the creature. It was a good hit but the hide of the creature was too tough and the sword just stopped dead on the creatures shoulder.

Angus snarled, and looked back at Xenoxis, remembering he'd been scavenging from the archers in the outpost, probably, just maybe, they had something.

"Rogue!" he shouted, swinging his scimitar at the Lemure that seemed to be weakest by now, though his lack of concentration made him miss and he tried to pull back, he still kept on shouting at Xenoxis, though he quickly realized that he needed the be more specific, though he couldn't recall much of the name.

"Xen, did you pick any silver arrows from the guards?!"

[size=-2]

Fielli cocked an eyebrow at the creatures. With a flick of her gaze, she checked the progress of the rocks. Slim, weak, she was hardly defenseless against these creatures but she shouldn't be lifting rocks, she wouldn't do much except hurt herself. Nodding to Pipqua, Fielli turned her attention to the creature her comrades were attempting to harm.

My favorite attack, time to freeze things up here, no? Fielli tilted her head, a grimace in place as she stared at the Lemures. Murmuring under her breath, Fielli raised her hands and flicked a few fingers. As another person disloged a rock, it rolled off and hit her hand. Fielli flinched in pain, her hand intact but her spell was damaged, flying in the wrong direction.

Fielli swore loudly and glared at them again.

Xenoxis ignored Angus's shout, consumed as he was in the frantic digging. Shifting rock after rock, he tunnelled towards the glowing light of Darius's shield. His efforts were aided by the hulking Lizardman, who crowbarred aside whole swathes of rock, his pace never slowing as his reptilian muscles made short work of the debris. [350lbs shifted. 1242lbs remaining.]

Nearby, the wounded Lemure squealed on the end of Karwik's blade, twisting free and trying to slash the flanking rogue. His claws sliced open the young man's chest, sending him stumbling against the opposite gorge wall. [3 damage to Karwik]

Further in front, the second Lemure leapt at Fielli as her frost spell failed, seizing her casting arm and sinking its teeth in. The mage pulled free, hissing in pain as her skin was sliced open. [1 damage to Fielli]

Angus, meanwhile, was left with the brunt of the enemy attack as another Lemure slipped into the gap left by Sales and hacked at his flanks. He dodged sidewards, colliding with Fielli and Karwik and almost falling. The ranger dropped to one knee, ducking the claws of the second demon before rising again.

The party was losing ground... backed up against the rockslide.

Sales didn't know what to do after his last attack didn't even make a dent in the hide of the creature, fortunatly Karwik got the creatures attention leaving Sales time to execute an idea he had.
He yanked off his backpack and dove a hand in, felt around and pulled out a flask of Holy Water. Sales saw Angus in trouble down on his knee with a creature over him, Sales then took aim and threw the flask at the creatures face as hard as he could.
The flask smashed open on the creature, spraying holy water over everyone, the creature over Anugus screamed in pain holding its face then fell to the ground dead!

(6 Damage to D2, not D1)
(1 splash damage to rest of Lemures)

Karwik reeled back from the slash to his chest, wincing in pain. That thing had slashed him, and deeply at that. It would pay for doing that. Springing forward, Karwik attempted to distract the creature into exposing its weakpoint, but it realized what he was doing, and simply turned towards the more important threats, ignoring the rogue's feeble attempts to attract its attention.

Noticing that the creature wasn't going to let him assist his comrades, Karwik instead opted to quickly back off, moving a swift five feet backwards so as to have some room to double around and possibly take one of them by surprise again.

(For those keeping score, I failed an Assist Another check, and made a five-foot step backwards.)

He let out an angered grunt, the fight wasn't going too well and they still weren't done with the rocks, to see if Darius and Ayumi were still alive under the rocks. Even worse, Xenoxis was apparently too focused with the digging, at least they had one less of the lemures to worry about.

"Damned rogue..." he muttered, swinging his swords upwards towards the closest of the Lemures (D2), he managed to to make a large gash in the chest, well, what he figured was the chest of the demon.

As the Lemures recoiled from the searing pain of the holy water, Fielli took her chance. Dropping to one knee, she barked an incantation, magic words charging the air with static. The demon closest to her lashed out, slashing claw wounds in her face [1 damage to Fielli]. Stifling a scream, she kept chanting, even as blood dripped from her cheek.

With pure telekinetic force, she dislodged the smaller rocks that had fallen over the gorge, causing a minature avalanche as the larger debris gave way. A boulder came crashing down, bouncing between the walls of the gorge. The demon never saw it coming, and even Fielli did not have time to get clear. The wizard was struck on the shoulder, falling unconscious, while the Lemure was buried beneath the boulder with a horrid shriek. [Fielli on -2HP]

Smaller rocks fell between Karwik and the leading demon, which scrambled to get over the obstacle and tear the thief apart. As it came close, Sales scooped up his shortsword and hacked at the creature's side, drawing no blood but at least buying the rogue some time.

And behind this, the last three fiends scurried around the boulder, jostling for space. Two of them clawed at Angus, the first drawing blood from his hip [3 damage to Angus].

Right now, it seemed the ranger was the only one keeping the demons back. At the rockface, Kryx and Xenoxis continued digging, shifting rock from the shimmering light of Darius's shield. [350lbs shifted, 892lbs remaining]

Angus was frustrated, and leaning quickly towards distressed, but still he had to stay sharp, at least until Darius and Ayumi could get out and end this quickly, if they were still alive. He looked at the boulder and whatever little knowledge of fighting these demons he figured they couldn't jump at him, or so he hoped.

He sprinted towards the boulder and tried to grab on to the rock and climb up, and his hands didn't falter neither did his feet as he managed to get himself to the top of the boulder.

Once there he made a swing downwards at one of the demons, the one that had tried to flank him (D4), and he managed to slash the beasts' right arm, though he didn't do much.

Karwik glared at the demonic foe stalking towards him. He had no way of stopping it with his measly short sword, but backed up as he was, what choice did he have? Fielli was injured, possibly dead, and the more he looked at it, the more he realized that he was probably next.

Then something happened. As the creature was trying to climb over the rocks to tear a new hole in the thief's chest, Karwik saw that Sales was still behind it, striking it with his sword. This was the rogue's chance. Stepping back five feet and drawing his crossbow, he lined up his shot with the creature's lit up form (thanks also to Sales), and he fired.

Passing through its eye, the arrow lodged itself in the creature's brain, and it fell over dead. The rogue did not relax, however, and began reloading his crossbow, readying himself for the next horror that came tearing up after him.

Sales was glad to see the demon in front of him fall to the ground, dead.
With a nod of thanks to Karwik, Sales turned to see the courageous ranger single-handedly take on the 3 of the demons, which gave Sales a spark of hope in his depressed soul. 'We can do this' Sales thought, but just as he was about to jump in and help Angus, he noticed that Fielli was laid out out he ground injured.
The dilemma hit him as hard as a boulder from an avalanche. Instinct told him to help Fielli, so he ran around the boulder to find the illusionist.
She looked in a bad way, 'no time to lose', Sales thought and begun the healing ritual immediately.

[6 hit points to Fielli]

With a gasp, Fielli's back arched as her collarbone snapped back into place, the bones righting themselves with holy force. She gripped the elf's arm for support and pulled herself out from the rubble that had crushed the demon. She was gasping for breath, her heart pumping fresh blood into her arresting organs.

As Sales pulled her away, her hand whipped out, and with another chant a burst of light shooting from her fingertips. The demon in front of Angus reeled back, howling in pain as it was dazzled by the Flare.

Sales propped Fielli against the gorge wall, right next to Kryx and Xenoxis, who continued their hasty excavation. [542lbs remaining]

Meanwhile, Angus continued to hold the line against the three remaining Lemures. The blinded one slashed at him, cutting open his shin but missing any major bone or muscle thanks to its dazzled state. [1 damage to Angus] Angus kept his balance on the boulder, dodging a lunge from the second demon and keeping beyond the reach of the third which jostled mindlessly behind the other two.

Sales wasn't going to stop for a second, in a total focused mindset, he set down Fielli then turned and focused all his concentration on protecting Angus.

[Cast 'Shield Other': Angus gains a +1 Deflection Bonus to AC and a +1 Resistance Bonus on saves, also Angus takes half damage, Sales takes other half]

The ranger, now feeling the added defenses the cleric provided, fought more fiercely, and slashed down on the Lemure he attacked before, this time intent on killing the demon for good.

His scimitar came down into the head of the demon, and unfortunately, his grip on his scimitar slipped at the worst of times, and though he hit the demon, he didn't do much but anger it more.

Looking up towards the end of the battlefield, Karwik was surprised to see that half of the enemy force had been slain at this point. The group was winning. What's more, the illusionist had done something to stun one of these strange creatures, leaving them open for an attack.

"Lovely, lovely. Just stay right there," he mumbled, lining up the creature to the best of his abilities. With a grin that was perhaps a bit too cocky, he fired his crossbow, and received the response that he deserved when the shot just bounced off its hide. The rogue would have to learn to not get too full of himself in the future.

In the meantime, he reloaded, hoping that his shot going awry wouldn't attract the monsters to him.
