Arcane Machina: A Broken World

  • Her words were interrupted by a call the Lord President made. It left Rosetta with some time to look around the Red Room - essentially the most significant location in the Human realm. Here was where the Lord President worked and presided on decisions. Decisions like hunting down and discriminating the Arcs. As sour as Rosetta was to note that, she knew she could not act just yet. She had a mission and until Silvana redefined that mission, she would work to fulfil it to the best of her abilities.

So shaking her head, she turned to glance at the ornate furnishing of the room. Most of the oaken furniture were beautifully hand crafted. The fine details on each and every piece of furniture, from the cabinets to the tables to the chairs, were exquisitely carved to sport the insignia of the Lord President's Office. Analysts and General paced about every now and then, each one attending to some urgent business. Their voices were hushed, however, and several times Rosetta caught them throwing curious stares in her direction. They were clearly uncomfortable with the idea of an Arc here. Or, Rosetta noted wryly, they were smitten with her. Her visual tour of the room was interrupted shortly by the Lord President who ended her call on a curt note.

"Dear me, not exactly our finest hour is it?"

Rosetta shrugged as she watched the Lord President carefully. The tenseness on the side of her lips and the growing redness of her face were evidence enough. Lady Karen Rose was no rose. She was angry, and she wasn't showing it in full. Her secretary stepped in just then, whispering into the Lord President's ear. The latter replied at length, going as far as to caress the secretary. Rosetta watched that even more closely, noting immediately that there was more than the Lord President will let on when she returns to their conversation.

"Tell me child, do you want to see Dogma's mecha fleet? Surely your leader has yet to see the beauties. Consider this a step towards unity among us and your people."

It was as expected. Rosetta knew there would be no talk of what had just been said to her. Although Rosetta had little to no experience on the diplomatic front, she was no fool. For someone to whisper amongst themselves right in front of another! Rosetta was almost chuckling aloud at the thought, but she held back, instead turning it into a genuine smile as she nodded.

"Now then, shall we leave this dreadful room? I fear our other guest is waiting,"

Rosetta got up, waiting for the Lord President to lead the way before following. As soon as they stepped out, she could hear the cacophony within the Red Room resume.

Mari tensed up a little as she saw the prisoner threatened them, she remained as passive as possible without trying to aggravate him further and decided to step away to give him some air. Elise backed away slowly as well; she however felt no need to be as caring as Mari was to the Arcane before them.

"Look, we're prisoners too. We – we're currently trying to escape," Mari began once she felt the atmosphere died down a little. "My friends are helping us out so just try to remain calm, nobody is going to hurt-"before she completed her sentence, a loud explosion erupted behind Mari and Elise as a loud metal bent and hissed while a mysterious force of power on their right completely obliterated the metallic walls that came from the West Bridge, destroying anything on its path, had Mari and the others stayed a few meters closer, they may have suffered a fate befitting of the wall behind them.

"What the hell!!" Mari yelled in fright as her metallic wings went into auto defensive mode with red glows and her body began automatically reformatting into a battle cyborg to cope with the shock of a surprise attack. Elise tilted her head before sending another communication feed towards Ralph as the mysterious blast continued its path past them.

"Ralph? What in the world was that?" Elise asked.

"Nothing, we're just making a short cut," Ralph responded.

=o=o=o=o

"Mari is in shock, you know. Whatever power was used to punch through meters of concrete and steel did a doozy to her," Elise replied.

Ralph snickered; it was good to spook the beauty once in a while. Turning to his employee, Ralph beckoned him to follow. This guy's definitely the VIP of his workforce as of late, the rewards are definitely going to match this gun man's demands once this hellish nightmare was sorted and dealt with.

"Good work, man! Let's head over and leave," He said with a nod as he fired his armour's boosters to begin his flight towards the Eastern Bridge's laboratories. Finally, he was going to be reunited with Mari and finally have her in his arms away from this dreaded country's politics and away from the madmen of Korma.

Lady Karen Rose led her guest towards the balcony overlooking the Mecha fleet's deployment. Silence fell between the two of them, her mood was far too removed to be as sociable than usual and to make matters worse, Hobbs may come questioning her later on as to how the most impenetrable fortress in recent history managed to fall through easily despite their government's state of the art systems able to detect threats and stop this from ruining the face of both countries. She may have to pry these questions from their analysts later, but now it is best to keep face infront of these dreaded Arcane guests to put their plans into motion.

She was told that she would meet him at their destination and she proceeded through without any delay. She glanced back at times to see what the young Arcane from Saevitia was planning, among other things than remaining silent.

"You must be tense, child. You needn't worry, incidents like these are common place here in Dogma," she said with a voice of confidence, while keeping her face masked by facing front to avoid showing her aggravated face. She had hoped to meet with Hobbs soon, but knowing him he was off abroad preparing Korma for the inevitable part of their plan should her method fail.

Ralph arrived at the makeshift entrance to be greeted by a destroyed laboratory and his helmet automatically disengaged, catching eye of Marigold, he gave a gentle smile as he strode towards her. Marigold on the other hand, gave a glare at her boyfriend before standing up and rushing to him, furious by his decision to involve himself in her family's entanglement with one of the most dangerous dynasties in Vicronica. She attempted to slap him, only for Ralph to quickly held her arm. She raised her free hand but he only latched unto her before finally settling for a hug.

"You shouldn't have come. It was my choice to do this…I was trying to protect you all," she said meekly.
Ralph only sighed as he caressed her hair.

"If only you knew how far I'd go," he said with a soft tone in what had been quite a long time. She made him feel normal, not as a commanding industrialist pressured by their society or their country's line of defense, but a man.

"Let me make amends now. Starting by bringing this fortress down," he said as he kissed her forehead.

"Everyone in Tirnova will not take this lightly," she said.

"That's the idea," Ralph said. Too long have they sat comfortably in neutral grounds, it was time they stood for what was right and not parade it in poor speeches. This from here on out was a course of action no Tirnovan would dare do until today.

"I knew you'd get it done right, big guy! Nice work," Ralph said as he gave Argle a thumbs up.

"Dot, you've got 200000 credits wired to your account. Damn job well done, kiddo," he said as his face was sealed in once again by his Ragnum helmet due to detecting the arrival of his new employee.

Marigold's worries washed away seeing how Ralph was able to handle the situation and strike harder than any army in such a short span of time just to cripple one of Korma and Dogma's finest defences. She glanced back at Shen, somehow altered from the last time she saw her, finally looking at the hostile Arcane they released she had doubts on how he would bring these two to cooperate for the big escape.

"We've got to round up everyone to make this work, I don't think Shen and the other one will be able to fight but I can help them out. I just need time and the enemy off my back," she explained to Ralph as her mechanical wings began to sprout from her back.

"Sounds good to me," he said. "Elise, the new guy, myself and Argle will keep the rest busy until you are clear from the fortress," he said as he handed Mari an earpiece for communications. "I take it your navigation systems are still functioning?" he asked her.

"…Yes," she sighed, still uncomfortable with the machinery within her.

Ralph's arm readied a missile while Marigold prepared her arm cannon and both of them directed it to the path of escape. Both fired their blasts against the melted steel destroyed by Xotiff's bullet prior to make a clearer path for them to leave.

"Go, I'm right behind you," he said.

With a nod, Mari left his side and picked Shen up.

"Let's go, Shen… We haven't got much time left," Mari said while glancing at the winged Arcane they released prior as well. "You too! We have to go now!" she said as she tugged Shen.

"Ralph, hostiles are inbound. A larger mecha is approaching the labs by the second," Elise warned Ralph through his HUD.

"What else is new with Korma?" he quipped as he called for the gunman to regroup them all for the final battle to buy time for his beloved and her friends to escape. His suit's entire weapon systems were primed and ready for the confrontation set out by Hobbs' welcoming party.

"Alright boys, you heard the plan. This is our stage now, so let's make them piss their pants!" he addressed Xotiff and Argle, knowing full well they are more than capable of taking down a mecha and a troop of soldiers trained to also destroy them all. Elise surrounded the trio with 4 sets of able bodied Ragnum suits while another two began to escort Marigold and her friends to prepare them for departure.

Zephyr's first steps were unsteady, an ungainly imitation of a drunkard's own gait but with each one they grew stronger, the paralytics metabolizing in no time at all. Around his form twinkled the needles of his own blood, flourescent lights of the laboratory turning them to stars in the night. The last drops of fluid were falling from his body, his hair already beginning to dry. With a sharp crack, his wings snapped out and with them a shower of liquid. They quivered in excitement at their release, the muscles within stretching as they hadn't in too long. Slowly they folded back behind him.

His gaze had never left any of them in the chamber. They had yet to give him any reason to destroy them; one even mentioned something about escaping. The idea was one that had been flitting about in Zephyr's mind for some time but only now had he the chance to enact anything. He paid little notice to the explosions around him or to the others that had entered, or at least it seemed that way. As Ralph and company entered, the needles surrounding him had reoriented themselves to face the newcomer, the chimera's piercing gaze looking for openings.

As the breezes from the newly created drafts ruffled his feather, he was painfully reminded that he was clad only in a pair of skintight trunks that left little to the imagination. He wasn't susceptible so much to the cold but the feel of the wind against his mostly naked body was a nuisance. However, time was of the essence - this much was clear by Ralph's words. Zephyr had no intent to remain here and as soon as the option was given to evacuate, he took it, following after Mari. He wasn't about to waste this chance.

(Sorry for the extremely long delay...)

It was unknown to Albert why he was invited to this foreign country. His own kingdom was a peaceful one, not isolated but kept away from external affairs. They traded their beautiful stones hand cut to shimmer just right for all manner of goods from other countries, they'd always been considered neutral since they had no war resources to offer. He would have been easily recognizable due to the wearing of his kingdoms emblem on his cape. It was an old style, often forgotten, but it was tradition that he wear his cape when leaving his own land. If his tunic didn't make him look regal enough to pass as the Quartz King, his face was stern and stoic. He may have been late to his invitation, but it was not his fault his ride took a detour.

Slowly opening the doors in front of him after showing the guards his invitation, he saw there was already someone waiting for him. Bowing to the woman before him, Albert spoke, "I apologize for my tardiness, my name is Albert Ausartak. I have come directly from the Quartz Kingdom in response to my invitation." Bringing up his head to look the woman in the eyes, he continued, "I do not know this place, may I ask who I am speaking to?"

Lord President Karen kept a stiff lip at the King's arrival, boasting humanity's advances far to him, she simple nodded and stared him down. She may hate Arcanes deep down however this King and the squire from Saevitia and other Arcane leaders soon to be arriving for discussion of her peace talks were merely part of her plan. She had to act welcoming however, and gave a comforting smile to the king yet maintained her curt attitude.

" You speak to Lord President Karen Rose, and I humbly thank you for your arrival. Fortunately, late as you may be, your majesty, we are about to commence the deployment of Dogma's Mecha Fleet. Care to join us?" she said, using her graceful arms to show him the way to the balcony awaiting her arrival towards the docking bays. Other Arcanes who had accepted her invitation had already started arriving, some from small villages and others from well renowned settlements. The numbers spoke for themselves on how they too wished to form a peace treaty with their unafflicted counterparts.

A faint smile glinted across her face, Hobbs would be proud of this progression. Only then will he not give in to his darker intentions, she believed. She was the sheath holding back the wrath of a machine that was once her husband.

"This way, King Ausartak. Join us as well, child," Karen addressed Rosetta to come along as Karen continued her pristine walk while her bodyguards had raised rifles to salute her. The Arcane leaders at the back had begun to follow them suit to oversee the Mecha Fleet's deployment.

Ravager emerged from the shadows behind the destroyed lab as he stealthily caught sight of their package about to leave while the giant monster, their hired gunman and the suit savant were distracted by the unit readying their approach. Drawing his hook gun, he took aim at Korma Weapon 050790 and shot a grappling hook towards her growing mechanical wings seconds before she was about to carry her Arcane friend off.

The hook connected to the weapon's wings and latched unto it, with sufficient force, he pulled her downwards before she took flight. The weapon dropped the Arcane to the floor as Ravager sunk down to his shadows as he pulled the weapon towards him. He planned to imprison her within his dimensional rift to bring her back to Korma where Hobbs can continue to retrofit her with their beliefs. His focused eyes glared at her as he continued to drag her into the dark rift.

=o=o=o=o=

Mari writhed as a hook latched unto her wings and its surprisingly strong force dragged her down as she prepared for flight. She dropped Shen as she tried to free herself only to see an unknown creature dragging her entire body towards a dark portal emanating from the floor.

"Fuck!" she yelled in pain as her mechanical parts near her wings began to tear under pressure of being dragged by the mysterious force. She quickly converted her left arm into a mechanized saw and took a desperate bid to tear the metallic rope binding her to the fast approaching portal. As sparks flew all over while she hastily approached the dark portal, she struggled to keep herself calm as she waved her saw-converted arm around to cut the steel rope before it was too late.

Ralph spun around as he heard Mari yelling while using her weapons to free herself from a hooked rope latched unto her wing as it dragged her unto a void-like portal a floor a few meters away from her and the exit. He charged his right hand's weapons to 30% and fired a laser blast from his finger tip towards the rope pulling her like a fish. The rope instantly tore apart, freeing Mari as she sighed in relief.

"What the hell was that?!" Ralph said as the void vanished from the ground.

"Keep your eyes peeled," she said as she pulled the hook out of her metallic wing and converted her arms into a cannon and a machine gun on her left and right respectively. "Korma's been brainwashing Arcanes to do their bidding, that's why I wanted to get Shen out of there," she said while scanning the place back to back with her boyfriend.

"Hmmm, how hypocritical of them, using Arcanes to their own ends when we all know that deep down they want these poor guys extinct," he said as he armed his lasers and pointed them around at all spots to flush out their stalker.

"You two! don't get sleepy now, we got company," Ralph addressed Xotiff and Argle, warning them of a hidden threat at this very lab. The winds and pressure of the destroyed hull near Mari and Ralph gusted on as they could see the clear skies outside. If only it was simple for her to take Shen and just leave, Mari thought.

=o=o=o=

Ravager re-emerged from the ceiling again, knives ready, he targeted the downed specimen while the weapon and the suit savant were focusing on finding him. Eyeing the Shen this time, he had to hold her hostage at best until the crew would finally arrive.

"Nocturne, I'm going in," he advised his partner through his communicator, intending to hold and stall the escapees by holding Shen hostage. His other target was the winged boy whom they freed, it was going to be difficult to stop him, as per the reports. However while he's still weak, he had to take this chance. Taking a deep breath, he sunk back from the ceiling.

Seconds later, his body emerged from a nearby shadow where Shen was dropped by Mari. He hastily ran towards his target, slid next to her and grabbed her by the neck. Drawing a knife, he held his blade next to her neck, carefully positioning himself as he eyed Mari, Ralph and the winged boy from attacking him.
Mari and Ralph froze dead on their tracks, the assailant placed himself well safe from them to fire any weapons without harming Shen.

"Nobody move. By order of Korma," as he said this, the large doors exploded as the summoned troops began to flood the laboratory and taking strategic positions as a lumbering sound approached, signalling the arrival of the Mecha. All soldiers began pointing their rifles towards Xotiff, Argle, Ralph's suits, Mari, Zephyr and Ralph himself.

"You are all under arrest."

Xotiff - Kyvvy & Argle, pink

"Soo..." Xotiff started in the midst of everything. Snares from the shadow-realm, arcs being used to fight arcs. Ralph used his commanding stature to his advantage but Xotiff could not really put this past him.
"... this thing is friendly?" he asked, clearly asked regarding the large... man... Best description of him was that he had been shot with enough bullets to sink most small ships in weight alone, or at least based on his attire, but he was still standing and didn't look to be damaged.
"Friendly enough, little man" Argle stated back with far from an amused tone.
"Soo... Team mate for now at least?" the gunman stated as he released the handles of his guns still in their holster. The group in this room was far, far, fucking über far from normal and having a healthy level of paranoia tended to work out well for people in dangerous situations like this.

Argle looked over the strange man with bandages around his head, how did he see? What was his thing; guns? That would be useless against these technological 'men'. He had seen shots fired at them from bigger guns than he was carrying, and they did little.
Although, there was a very odd aura and smell to him. It was more than the blood and lingering hint of molten metal, a cocky tainted hint of danger. And did he have a sword on his back? Bringing a melee weapon to a fight like this was nothing short of idiotic. Though as the brawler type himself Argle was far from in a position to whine at others. This aside he did take a liking to the rather unique animal friend that followed the bandaged man around.

Before they were able to chat any longer some shitfuck of a man came out what seemed to be the ceiling and ended up with a winged woman as a hostage, or something.
Argle looked sort of confused as Xotiff drew one of his guns, half-assedly aiming towards this... man.. with a knife.

"Soo... Why didn't we just leave when we got what we needed?" The Gunman asked randomly into the room. After all if they had completed both objectives... why the fuck were they still here?
Doors opened and enough guns to feed a small revolution was aimed their way.
"Yeah.... or that might happen..." the assassin stated in a sigh as he clicked off the safety. "I still say we leave..."
