Turning off the music and spending excessive time on the cries takes away from the joke and instead makes it sound more like "Listen to how silly I sound! Mom, mom! Listen to my pokémon noises!"
Like this'd be hilarious if it was played straight. Now it's just... Well... Annoying. 'cause the focus is more on how the person wants to be perceived as the funny one, rather than letting the joke speak for itself.
