The Journey Home

The land of Ara is an unforgiving place. A world of troubled times and dark magic, the people here live in constant fear of falling prey to the forces of the night. Unlucky for you, you are one of those who have suffered at the hands of such dark forces. You are cursed, an outcast, marked by the dark and shunned by your communities and homes.

Legend tells of the old gods who protected those who fell prey to the dark. Their names spoken in dead tongues long forgotten, their temples abandoned and lost from any map, yet their myth still lives on. With little to go on but stories and hearsay, you have taken it upon yourself to seek them out for a cure.

The journey is long and arduous, laced with danger and those who would try to lead you astray and plant doubt in your heart. You will have to travel far, across mountains and seas, through the lairs of beasts and nations of corrupted magic. You will meet mythical beasts, monsters of the air and sea, be tempted to fall and forced to fight your deepest fears. You will make many enemies, some friends, and meet others like you who join you on your quest. Not all of the people you meet can be trusted. Many attempt this journey every year, and many will go missing.

This pilgrimage will not be easy. It is said the cursed must visit each lost temple in turn, and then the Gates of the Blessed will be open and the worthy may walk through to the lands of the Gods themselves. There it is uncertain what comes to pass, but it is said those that pass through will be tested, fall if they fail and blessed if they succeed. There are no guarantees. This is no quest for the faint of heart..

Characters
Enora Vlen, Dryad, Lacuna
[SPOILI]Name: Enora Vlen

Race: Spirit of the Forest, Dryad

Race Information: The Dryads are the sentinels of the forest, nurturing and caring for the trees and flowers, maintaining the balance and trying to prevent outer magic corruption. Enora's species of Dryad live in trees and may morph between them, preferring to keep themselves to themselves rather than going out into the forest, even with other Dryads and forest creatures. They are in touch with the spirits of the forest, and their magic is focused on growth and vitality.

Appearance: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/106/7/7/dryad_by_okha-d4w88tu.jpg
Enora stands at 5"10, her hair flowing down past her back in waves of wispy matted greens. Her eyes too have a misty look, reminiscent of her forest home, her ears curved to a fine point, two antler-like appendages of rough oak wood protruding from her head, sometimes covered in delicate pink blossoms. Her lips are a dark brown hue naturally, her skin soft as petals across her face and hands and rough as bark along her arms and legs. Across her body she has runes of the forest as if tattooed, around her she carries the smell of fresh earth and flowers.

As her curse progresses however, her hair dulls to a dark brown with the consistency of brittle dead leaves. Her eyes dull from a dark green to a chocolate, her movements become less lithe and elegant and more slow and plodding. In time her horns will darken to black dead wood, flowers dying, her skin weakening to the consistency of a human, her blood turning from green to red. Indeed in time, it is easy to mistake her for a human, the only signs of her lineage in the shape of her ears and the faded nature of her runic symbols.

Your Curse: Curse of the Glen. Enora lived alone in her forest home, shifting between the trees and generally staying out of the way of the others who shared her forest. She kept herself to herself, tending to the flowers and trees, occasionally listening to the spirits of the forest of observing those few braves who occasionally passed through. Enora learnt of the inhabitants of her home, those who were harmless, those who were tricksters, those who were dangerous. She knew all the different places - where the fairy circles were, the witches coven to the north, the goblin caves and the paths the ghost of a lost maiden took on the night of a full moon. Enora knew when the veil of the worlds was thinnest, what times of day and year the energy of the forest was at its strongest, she kept her forest alive and green in winter and bright and colourful in the spring and summer. In autumn she would rest and sleep.

It was one such Autumn a Kelpie moved into the river that ran through the forest. Come winter, the dryad approached the willow trees nearby to begin her work. This was when the Kelpie spotted her, beneath the water's surface as he was. Day by day he silently watched as she went about her winter work, and day by day he would shift out the water to approach her and she would morph away safely into the trees. One day he assumed the form of a midnight black horse and tried to herd her away from the trees and into the water. With great difficulty she escaped deep into the forest, not returning to the river that year.

It was a cool starless night and Enora was resting in her favourite oak. A shadow approached, not that she was aware, holding in his hand a dagger of twisted black wood, the hilt a sharp silver metal. With resentment he buried the magical blade into the tree, causing it to quickly shrivvel and die, turning as black as the blade itself. She morphed out of the tree and fell to the ground, poisoned by the wicked blade as her oak. Enora blacked out to the sound of a laugh reminiscent of a whinnying horse. She woke a few days later by the muddy riverbank, never seeing the Kelpie again.

Since, her ability to morph into trees has been corrupted - if she does so, she kills the tree and at the risk of being stuck forever. Her dryad powers become weaker daily, and she often feels lethargic and sick. At night she sleeps restlessly, constantly haunted by the feeling of being severed from her forest. Sometimes she will have bouts of amnesia, in which time she seeks out the nearest body of water to submerge. Enora does not know what happens should the curse reach completion, but she does not plan on finding out.
Her forest is becoming influenced by the other magical creatures that live within. Enora must hurry, else the Troll and Goblin Shamans and Dark Witches of the north corrupt her home into something unrecognisable...

Curses you have given, if any: Curse of the Forest. To those who have foolishly attempted to cut down the trees in her forest for firewood, she has retaliated with cursing those who do so to become like the trees they attack. Over time, their skin becomes like bark, their body clocks slow down and they speak less, their eyes glaze over as they slowly assume the characteristics of a tree. Then one day, they leave their families and walk into the forest at daybreak, take a position amoung the trees and freeze like statues, unmoving, unblinking. There they stay, over the years becoming like the forest around them, until one day they are just a face in bark, and then not even that.

Greatest Strength: Intuition. Maybe not with people, but certainly with events and directions, she can rely on her intuition to guide her forward. This has become a very useful skill when finding the temples.

Skills and Abilities: Plant-related manipulation, although in certain terrain this ability is useless This power is getting weaker as her curse takes hold, so in time she wishes to learn a new skill in the hopes of overcoming the trials and battles of the journey.
Items of Interest: After the curse took hold and killed her hometree, she took a fallen branch that had not been affected and carved out of it a bracelet of oak. She has lost her ability to communicate with nature and the spirits of the earth, but with this, Enora is able to do so. She must devote a lot of time and energy to doing so, and often the messages of the spirits come across as disjointed and vague.

Strongest Virtue: As counter intuitive as it may seem, Enora's greatest virtue is generosity. Having always stood sentinel and nurtured her forest, suddenly without that duty she has filled this hole by becoming more generous to other people and creatures. She has a very maternal nature about her.

Greatest Weakness: Doubt. Often she is stricken by doubt and becomes unsure of her purpose, sometimes enough to be consumed by it and not much use to anyone for a while as she overcomes this depression.

Greatest Fear: She has a fear of horses and large bodies of water. Enora has not left her forest home before, the wider world is new and strange to her. Indeed, she doesn't even know about oceans or mountains.

Greatest Temptation: Enora would easily be tempted should a forest creature of similar nature coaxed her to join them in their forest promising to help remove her curse, a satyr, faun or male dryad for instance.

Background: Her mother a dryad, her father allegedly a forest spirit, she was born and grew in her forest home and stayed their her whole life, until now. Leaving the safety of the woods was the most difficult decision of her life, but she vowed to return when she was cured and that she would not return till then. Her journey took her to the nearest human town, clothed in moldy, musty druid robes she searched for the first clues to set her on the trail of her adventure.[/SPOILI]
Sierra Feer, Fire Fairy, Vampress49
[SPOILI]Name: Sierra Feer

Race: Fire fairy

Race Information: Fairies are mysterious creature, mostly keeping out of site, but they are also mischievous, loving to play tricks on others. Each fairy has a certain element, some elements are rare, and some are common, but each fairy plays a part in helping the world.

Appearance: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uR2o77u4O7U/TYpOIxYssWI/AAAAAAAAAAQ/fvByCC6OxPM/s1600/fire fairy.jpg
Sierra is roughly 6 feet tall in her human form, and about 1 inch tall in her fairy form. When in her human form, her wings vanish. She has long, blonde hair that, when she moves around, shines and looks as if it were on fire itself. Her eyes are a bright red, bordering on orange, and they seem to flicker, like fire. Her wings become flame like whenever she uses them.
However, as the curse progresses, Her hair becomes dull and colorless, her tan skin becomes pale, her eyes become gray and loose there flicker. Her wings become weak and unable to support her, and they too become grey.

Your Curse: The curse of life. One day, Sierra and a few other fairies were playing tricks on some humans, which is pretty normal. Well, except for Sierra. Sierra, despite being a fairy, disliked tricking humans. Sure, she was mischievous like the others, but she just didn't enjoy it as much as the other fairies did. But, the other fairies somehow managed to drag her along to play a trick on someone. But, today there was a certain young woman that they played a trick on. It was a very basic trick, after all; they simply planned on tripping her. But, what they didn't know, was that the woman was a witch. So, they tripped her, and as she fell, she dropped everything she was carrying, which was just some bread and a couple of jars of... Something. The woman looked very, very angry. She stood up and turned around, and, being a witch, was able to see the fairies, something humans could not do. Realizing their mistake, the fairies all scattered into the woods. Sierra, however, was not quick enough to escape the witches wrath, and was caught in a small jar. The witch glared at Sierra and spoke, 'You think you're bright enough to play a trick on a witch? Well, we'll just see how 'bright' you are after this!' The witches hands began to glow, and so did Sierra's body. A few moments later, intense pain came over Sierra, and a few moments after that, she blacked out, only to wake up later on in the forest.
The curse get's worse over time, causing Sierra to weaken, and to become colorless, and weak. If the curse progresses fully, eventually she will just turn into dust and just blow away in the wind.

Curses you have given, if any: None.

Greatest Strengths: Her intellect. Sierra was among the smartest of fairies. As her power decreases, her intellect is the only thing that does not decrease.

Skills and Abilities: She is able to control fire and heat, which is often useful on cold nights. Her fire ability weakens as the curse goes on, eventually vanishing entirely. Her ability to control heat does get weaker and weaker, but it is able to be used a little bit after her fire ability vanishes, though not much longer, as it too eventually vanishes. She is also able to fly when she is in her full fairy form, though that ability too eventually vanishes.

Items of Interests: A ring, with a small round jewel that allows her to maintain her powers slightly longer than she woulds have been.

Strongest Virtues: Kindness. She is very kind, often helping anyone when they need it.

Greatest Weaknesses: Worry. She worries about anything and everything, sometimes causing her to miss out on many great things.

Greatest Fears: Water and cold. Being a fire fairy, she has not experienced cold, but as she gets weaker and begins to lose her powers, she is forced to. Also, if she gets wet, her powers are lost quicker and, if she gets wet enough, her powers will be lost entirely.

Greatest Temptations: Knowledge, as she can possibly be led astray at the promise of knowledge.

Background: Sierra's parents were both fire fairies, and so she was too. As she grew up, she noticed that, unlike other fairies who enjoyed the company of everyone else, she preferred being alone, and exploring, she liked learning about stuff. She was an outcast among other young fairies, except for her sister, who was the one who convinced her to come play a trick on the witch who cursed her. When she woke up in the forest after she was cursed, she knew she had to revers it, before she died.[/SPOILI]
