The man lowered his arms, looking around, confused. "What...?" He stared at the empty platform, then glanced at the light flowing out around him, beginning to fade. Richard took advantage of the opportunity, slamming him with a wall of force that sent him sailing off the top of the ziggurat. Val hopped up onto the peak, the air bending around her hands as she prepared to launch a field of distortion at him. However, the man the yelled a word, and a shimmering platform formed beneath him, and his momentum canceled instantly. The disc he stood on floated back toward the group. "And who are you? What did you do to Ilivera!?" He demanded. He was wearing a lavender jacket and trousers, and had shoulder-length purple hair, ruffled from the impact.
Instead of answering, Val distorted the air around him, and his platform bent and shattered, dumping him back onto the stone building. Grunting, he stood up, and she noticed that he still held that odd book. Rightfully, Richard's attack should have already killed him. He produced a quill pen in his other hand and, in long, flowing strokes, wrote something on the open page of his book. The ziggurat seemed to shake, and Val was barely able to remain standing. The air shimmered, and two swirling whirlwinds of white mist coalesced on the other side of the peak from her. "Not again..." She looked at the still-fading lavender light surrounding her. What if...? She held out her hand, concentrating her power. The soft glow dimmed further, and a purple-and-black aura of power materialized around her. The Seraph smiled. Spreading her fingers, she channeled it into a beam that incinerated one of the advancing mist-beings, holding it long enough to make sure it wouldn't come back. She turned it to the other one, but it broke apart and scattered away from the attack before reforming next to her. She ducked and pulled the energy back inward, swiping at it with her glowing hand. Recoiling, it sailed backward and began to circle her cautiously. While she fought it, Richard repeatedly launched discs of force at the apparent mage, who set a shield of white light in front of his hand, and was kept busy parrying the scientist's attacks.
