They're trying to feed you. Cats look at you like big, dumb, furless babies in need of their assistance. It's why they'll try to groom you or give you half-dead or totally dead things for food.

At least, so far as I'm aware, anyway.

Well my cat was outside when he showed up with the mouse. I assume he dropped it in front of my mum, cause the mouse ran away when it was released. Before he could chase after it, my mum took the cat inside, much to his displeasure (he spent a good deal of time staring out of the window).

Interestingly enough, he has decided to perch beside me as I write this.
