Juniper Looney

With the sun high in the sky and bird chirping away Juniper walked through the forest. The day had gone well, with only little interruptions from animals. Not that she minded. Juniper was one with animals and would often sit with them and read or draw. Today was the exception, today one year ago she left to travel the world, leaving behind her life that she had built. Then again she was alone in that life, he family having been killed. Anyway Juniper had traveled much of the world but, there was still more to see. So much more. Hearing noise Juniper panicked slightly. Could be good or bad. Either way Juniper got down on her knees and began the painful shift from human to cat. Yes, Juniper can shapeshift, but only into select animals. One being a cat.

Soon a black cat sat on the forest floor watching, listening for the noise to come again. It did but this time with the voice of a man, well several men. From what she could hear they were headed in her direction. Standing from her spot Juniper bolted into a bush, crouching low. Then men came closer and soon they emerged form the trees, eyes scanning the grounds. "See! I told you she's not here!" One of them shouted. He was a short small with shaggy black hair.

The other man rolled his eyes looking around again before nodding, "Maybe so, but she could still be near." With that the two continued moving, eyes searching the grounds and trees for whoever this 'she' was. Juniper peeked her head out of the bush, her ears twitching at the sounds of the forest. A sigh escaped her cat mouth as she stepped out from the bushes. Whoever those men were, Juniper knew she needed to move, now. Starting out in a run Juniper headed in the opposite direction the men went, hoping that maybe they wouldn't back track and find her. Wham! A boot came out of nowhere and hit Juniper in the side as she was running. The momentum caused her to crash into a tree, barely making a dent. Weak from the blow Juniper looked up, her glowing dark green eyes stared at the man before her.

He was tall, about 5' 9" with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes that held a sinister look to them. Fear consumed her as Juniper stood her ground. Planting her feet firmly on the ground Juniper stood up, swaying slightly as the blow had hurt her immensely. "Ha! Got some fight in you eh?" The man taunted pulling out a knife. "This'll be fun." With that the man lunged at Juniper knife raised ready to strike. Juniper froze, as the man came at her. She didn't know what to do, so she jumped to the side. Sadly it was a little too late. The knife pierced her skin causing a loud whine to come from her. The man gave a sadistic laugh as he pulled out a vial and collected some of her blood. Juniper was confused by this. Why would he collect her blood?

More footsteps were heard as Juniper's eyes began to feel heavy, the wound causing great fatigue to take over. Her side was stained with blood and while she didn't know how much longer she would last Juniper prayed for help. "Got the blood?" One asked. A nod was given in return and soon the men began to leave, while Junipers eyes began to close. "What should be do with it?" A voice carried from one of the men. Juniper didn't hear the response as her eyes closed shut and she drifted off into a peace less sleep.

Robin had spent most of his day standing by the edge of the treeline watching over this small hamlet that seemed to keep his attention more so then the other human villages did. Most of the time Robin did not care about these places where the modern man dwelled. The civilized humans were like the cursed mages of yore who sapped from the earth all of their magical powers but gave back none. However they lacked any foresight, nor did they wish to better themselves. They were willing slaves to a king far away, and worked for their food, and waited contently for the next band of raiders to come along.

However, what had Robin interested was not this normalcy that he saw in every poverty-stricken hamlet. It was the curiously that lied within. There was something inside that he knew was there, something he wished he had. It was something of great power, a great magical object of nature. Something humans would be oblivious too. Robin tried his best to not be a chronic thief, but his mind couldn't help but a thing of what it was. Though he couldn't help but think of the bad it could be too. There was a chance it could be an imprisoned fae or an object already doing the bidding of an immoral mage.

Too much of his dismay, he had to come back another time. The trial he was following was too hot and if he wasted more time here wondering about these people and what lied within their hamlet, there to much distance between him and his assailant.

The man had attacked him a fortnight ago, and Robin had been following him since he found his tracks the night before. Perhaps the fault was Robin's for his provocation, though there was a chance that what he had taken was not his. He himself had another air about him, that different from the village. Another object, though this was two-fold. There were two different objects he had. He feared that he was trying to collect something for a spell. He asked him about it, only to had the mans aggression as a reply. The man was no mage, but he was a thug. And when the man left he seemed adamant on making sure he would bring more of his men to stop Robin. Though Robin could swear he hadn't known the man before, the man had seemed to recognize Robin. Though their discourse was nothing but hostile, neither asked further on the subject.

From that Robin took it upon himself to find him again. Liberate him of whatever objects he may hold that belongs to Nature. From there, Robin didn't know what he would. He considered asking him if he would know anything about himself, but Robin didn't know if he wanted to or if he should.

. . .

It was the night now, and the grand silver moon looked over the trail through the forest. There was little that Robin could do but set up camp. Before he could find a spot, he heard the soft breathing of a wounded animal. He waited and listened. A cat. He closed his eyes and let the forest speak to him. The calm breeze of the glade surrounded him as he made his way in a clear-minded and calm manner. He opened his eyes and saw before him a black cat by a bloodied oak.

"Oh you poor thing," Robin cooed as he gently picked up the cat into his arms as a mother would. Robin rocked the cat slowly and made a low melancholy hymn with his throat.

Robin found a spot between two giant elms and set up camp. He placed the cat on one of his blankets and set up a sheet overhead to shelter from any rain. Robin got out from his sash a few herbs: Wineroot, a stock of a Vita-flower, as well as some purified soil he always carries on his person. He took his mortar and pestle and ground all of the ingredients into a bit of water to make a paste. Then with a soft gentle hand, he rubbed the mixture onto the cats wound. Robin lay against the tree and closed his eyes. He would rest as well, or attempt to.

She could feel hands on her, the lull of a voice, a soft touch. Someone had found her. Her prayer had been answered, and soon she would wake from her slumber to greet the person that saved her life. Whoever they are Juniper knew it would be a life debt that should would pay. It was customary for a shifter repay anyone that saves them with there life. Even if it took their whole life time to help, they would do it with a smile. In this instant Juniper knew she would do exactly that. She would help the person who saved her with a smile.

Her eyes slowly opened until she was looking out into the night. Laying on her side Juniper tried to move only for pain to shoot though her body. A pitiful sound escaped her. She wasn't sure what to do. On one hand she could sit here and just wait until the pain subsided enough to move or she could shift back into a human. Thinking over the two options Juniper went with the latter Juniper willed her body she change shape, listening as her bones popped and cracked as the took on a new shape. Now a woman Juniper moved to a sitting position looking down at her side to see her clothes were torn in one spot with a paste like substance covering the wound.

Eyes moving to look around she wondered where she was. She could tell she was still in the forest, but how far had this person taken her? That's when her eyes landed on the person that saved her life. Leaning against a tree was a male with burgundy hair. Curious Juniper slowly got to her feet and, with careful steps, walked over to the man. He seemed asleep, but Juniper knew better than that. People can seem asleep but be awake. Sitting down in front of him Juniper took a closer look. A sharp jaw and pointy ears, along with a small nose and soft cheeks. He was definitely handsome. Juniper wondered what his eyes looked like. "Hello?" Juniper spoke in question, hoping her voice would wake the stranger.

Robin wasn't startled by the woman's greeting. He simply opened his eyes and looked at her. Robin sat up against the tree trying to get a better look over her. Robin signed. He hoped he would have a good sleep, but perhaps it was selfish of him to be home he would. The trees whispered ceaseless about the village, Robin was in no place to sleep especially now with the woman nowhere.

"Hello, so you can change shape I presume," Robin guessed. His breath was hushed as the cool breeze came down into the camp as a consistent flow. Robin hadn't really taken the thought that the cat might have been a shifter. Though if it was, it could have all the well being a hag or some witch more then ready to make him their pray or take his toes and concoct some sort of horrid brew. However, this woman seemed to be of good intention. Witchs were old crones and hags were pale and withered things. This young woman could be a hag, but he would be already dead. Not like a hag to spark of conversation.

"I take it you might have had a stumble in with some townsfolk or the like, " Robin inquired. He made no effort to try and get back to sleep. He had skipped a nights sleep before, to his own detriment, but it was a part of his nature.

"I suppose you would be wanting something to eat," Robin asked. He already started to get up to his mess kit and rations that were in his beg leaning againest the other tree. The rations were mostly berries and some salted meats. Though he wasn't sure what this woman would like.
