What is a Personification?
WEEK II

A personification is giving an object or an animal human-like characteristics. Personifications of objects should have some parts that belong to the object in general. The personification can be a tree, fingers, potato chips, the sun, the color blue, or even happiness. in layman's terms, personifications give human-like characteristics to nouns (people, places, things or ideas).

So your job is to make a personification of one or more objects, and then write out a role play example that shows them in action. There will be various types of personifications to choose from, and you get to pick any scene with them. There may be restrictions each week.

Here is an example:

In order to think of a well-portrayed personification for your character, you would need to:
  • Brainstorm everything you know about the product you want to personify. If you come up with little or no information, you may wish to conduct some research (Wikipedia is a good base for knowledge).
  • If the product in question comes in multiple colors (perfume, lotions, tissues, pencils, etc.) and types, you may wish to narrow it down to a certain brand and/or type of product.
  • Pick out the most prominent characteristics of the product. These characteristics should be present on your personification.
  • BE CREATIVE~! Creativity will make your work shine~!
  • Be very, very careful if you want to personify something that may violate the forum rules.

DO NOT

  • Try to use personifications that were already done (such as KanColle, Hetalia, etc.) It would sound fishy if you showed a picture of Tenryuu and slapped your name on her, would it not? If you do that, turn yourself in to the police, mate. You just committed plagiarism.
  • Go overboard with the personification and waste your time. If you really want to make a personification of the Civil War or another major event in history, you may wish to narrow it down to a certain Battle of the war. you may take too much time in making your sheet.
  • Try to make things that seem to be overdone or otherwise too generic. If you make a personification of an animal, try to be as creative (and original) as possible. There are so many cat girls and dog boys out there. Why not a boy who has a short temper?
  • Name your character "Milk" or their personification unless if it fits them. For example, if you wanted to make a personification of the Moon, you can call them "Artemis Lunasta" or a name that fits with what you want to personify. You can also name them "Chocolate" if you can't come up with any unique names. Hell, their names don't even have to be related to the personified product!
YOUR JOB~!
  • Create personifications using these FOUR products
  • You may combine personifications, too (dusty keyboard; cheeseburger backpack, etc)
  • Out of the four products, you MUST personify at least ONE product (or idea).
  • The personification should be original!
  • Write out a character sheet for the personification, and write a writing sample with them in action.
  • You will need to choose wisely~!
THIS WEEK
  • The setting must have a FANTASY element. However, you may entwine fantasy with another genre.
  • PLEASE BE CAREFUL PERSONIFYING A BRAND NAME!
  • You may personify them anywhere around the INTERNET~! REMEMBER THAT!

PERSONIFICATION OF SCARF

Brainstorming: Light, nimble, wraps around. Accent, decor, eccentric. Thin or think, warms, shields. Moves with the wind. Different colors, woven stories. Crafted and unique. Frayed or stitched ends. Knits and knots.

Name: Sylka Weaver
Nickname: Syh
Age: 52
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Zodiac: Aries
Description: A character of many tales, Syh's traveled on the whim of her companions to even the farthest reaches of the world. As a result, she's filled a entire bookshelf with journals documenting her experiences, and loves when people ask her about them. Her long, supple hair looks expertly layered with variant tones of red and has hardly faded with age. Her eyes are a warm amber, which nicely compliment her honey-touched skin. Learning from the monks of Asia, Syh practices yoga every morning to keep her lanky body fit and limber. She loves collecting odd trinkets from her travels, and is always wearing an array of intricately styled jewels. Oddly enough, her clothes are plain. They're loose for comfort, and seem to serve only as a backdrop for her decor. Especially in her distinguished age now, Syh finds comfort in the presence of others. She constantly tries to surround herself with attention. In fact, she hates being alone, and will cling to anyone willing to listen to a story or two. She's had many past lovers who've entangled themselves in her life, but all seemed to grow tired of her eccentricities after a while. One particular lover left her so unraveled that she had almost forgotten who she was. Time has since stitched the tears in heart, but a few loose threads remain. Even though Syh's now a bit of a nomad, she still quietly hopes that one day someone will come along to appreciate her for all her odd bits and bobs.

Roleplay Example:

The the bells on the door chimed and Syh's amber eyes lit up. A tall, but lean man winked at her as he slipped from his coat. Her smile could melt the snow right from the man's hat. "I was worried you might not come", Syh teased as the man seated himself across from her.

"What, and miss out on that story of how you had lunch with the queen?", the man dramatized his disappointment then smiled, "I would never pass up a cafe run". Syh's eyes smiled now. She lifted her finger, signaling for the barista to brew a fresh coffee pot.

"Seriously, Sylka. You should write a book", the man said as pulled gloves from his hands.
Syh snorted slightly amused by the suggestion and spun a ring on her right hand, "Some stories can't be written". The man noticed the sudden distance in Syh's eyes and placed a palm over the back of her hand to offer comfort. Syh snapped back to the present and embraced the man's gesture with her other hand, "...plus I'd miss the company of a live audience".

The barista placed a clean mug in front of the man and proceeded to fill it. "Cream or sugar, sir?"
The man waved at her, "Oh, no thanks", then looked back at Syh, his eyes twinkling, "Need to stay awake for this one".

A smile tugged at Syh's lips again. As the barista left them alone, Syh reached down to a antiquated patterned bag under her chair and pulled it onto her lap. Before unlatching the button she asked, "Alexandria or Chile?"
The man chuckled, "You're the only person I know who carries a library of adventures with them."
"Well, what'll it be?"
The man settled into his chair, "let's start with Chile, but I'd love to hear them both".
"Great", Syh beamed and slipped out a red notebook full of tattered pages and hastily tapped photos. She was incredibly grateful for the man's enthusiasm and patience. "Hmm...", her finger slid over the words scribed in pen, re-living the moments before beginning her story.

The man sipped his coffee as Syh set the scene. She never missed a detail. Her words gradually transported him out of the cafe and wrapped his mind into another time. He had missed the warm familiarity of her voice, and soon all but forgot the snowstorm raging outside. Instead, he was navigating the colorful streets of Valparaiso and examining Chilean artisan crafts with his Gypsy guide, Sylka.
