FAMILY HISTORY
the finlays are a very prominent, very influential family in scotland, known under the name of the finlay fire-starters due to their uncanny ability to burn their enemies to the ground without ever getting caught. the public knows that are the one behind it, but there is no one to corroborate what the police presume. besides, the head of the household, sir andrew ewan finlay (sybil's father), has been promoted within more legitimate means so the fire-starters have laid low over the past few years. that, though, does not mean that they are any less active.
the finlay family has been an active part of the farquharson clan since before the unification of england and scotland, displaying their tartan and crest with pride while the threshold of the home proudly displays their motto "fide et fortitudine" ("by faith and fortitude"). the family prides itself on its heritage, and it actively works for the rights of scots around the nation and in their home of aberdeenshire.
in recent years, following the end of the great war, the family has organized riots and strikes that quite literally strike fear into business men's hearts. they fight for their people first and their business second which keeps the people happy with them despite their shortcomings as a business. they produce scotch whiskey that's popular at home and abroad along with wool goods from a number of sheep farms that they run throughout the highlands.
sybil is the eldest girl, and the middle child of five. she has two older brothers (ewan and william), one younger (theodore), and a younger sister (margaret) who is the youngest among them at fifteen. sybil, though, seems to be quite the star among the children and she is undoubtedly the favorite of the children. her brothers protect her incessantly and her father watches over her prospects as her mother and younger sister keep her company. that, though, hasn't kept the young woman out of the family business, and it most certainly didn't keep her away from the war. while she didn't go to mainland europe, she served as a nurse in several hospitals and convalescent homes in scotland to care for the men that had been wounded in action.
