Prompt: Muse A and Muse B live in a commune where all of its members-- including them-- attend a benevolent church for as long as they can remember. However, as they come of age, they begin to notice that their sermons are not centered around love and forgiveness, but on Doomsday. Any doubts and ideas outside of their religion are met with censure and compared to sin; the punishments are heavier than the rewards, and the pastor is worshipped akin to God. Yet despite the red flags, devotees never leave the community. And if they do, they are never seen or heard of again. As though they have never existed. The Muses plan to leave the church and its community, but will a disturbing agenda prevent them from doing so? Will they encounter something worse than excommunication?

Questions came with how the world expanded and how Alvin's world had fucking expanded after a few fuckups and failures on his part. It wasn't that he was a bad student, Alvin was actually smart, but not smart in the way that fit within the dogma of the community, that fit within the vision of his parents and aligned with the friends he grew up with. He couldn't morph himself neatly in that box set up; as if it was too small and Alvin too big, too bulky, despite being perfectly average sized. He was just chaos and rebellion from the making, all wrongly tuned from the get-go and a continuance of sin and wrong when he tanked his exam results and then got himself expelled from school for trying to kiss his best friend.

"To attend university outside?" his mother sounded so uncertain, in absolute disbelief at the thought of her Alvin going anywhere a bus ride away for higher education.

"Out of the question," his father had neatly swatted down that prospect, already angry that Alvin was taking an extra year after his expulsion and nearly cost them an excommunication. The relief in his mother's face at the idea shoved off the table as what repelled Alvin more, who saw his chance and his dreams all shatter at once.

'What about me?' he wanted to ask, but knew not to ask. Not after having to walk the way back from his campus to home after his expulsion, his dad refused to pick him up after getting caught. It hadn't mattered what Alvin did or liked or loved, it was the getting caught that had brought shame and with that near excommunication.

"What about his future?" his mother sounded instead, and Alvin would take that as a near caring about his wishes, though he knew that whatever was to follow wasn't going to care about his wishes or his dreams. He had learnt by now how hard that box was to fill and now that the linings were all broken and after that he had burst out of its fine mould Alvin wasn't sure if he ever wanted to return.

"I'm going out," the male said instead, tired and dismissed and feeling so invisible after a hell of a year and a time in which everything that he had taken for granted suddenly had burst and scattered itself into a thousand little pieces piling like piles of ashen snow. The sudden jerk from between his reality and the reality of the world had grown weary on him and Alvin wasn't sure how much more he could bear witness to.

At least the little grove at the edge of the church ground provided a shade and a recluse away from the reality of which he tried to escape remained the same. No rejection and no disgust and definitely no remainder of all that Alvin had done to fuck up so gloriously like he had done in a matter of weeks. Just silence, as if welcoming him to join in the silence and stay silent as the world cricketed away at a distance. It was a wrenching irony for Alvin who had found his world upturned and turned right again in a matter of a mere distance between the very object that stood at the centre of all change and the space of peace he so desperately needed.
