Much like the waters they loved so dear, Gladiolus was a tide - forever affected by the waxing and waning of the moon.

With those who she works with, they have thought of Gladiolus like the trickling stream, always going with the flow and easily approachable. She rarely said no to any role she was given. They said that she always gave her all with her performance, capturing who the character was and enthralling those watching.

With her family, she was a bit different. To the eyes of the public, Gladiolus was disciplined, well-mannered, and quiet. She was well versed in their history and would be the family's 'centerpiece' for formal gatherings even outside the mansion. Behind closed doors, Glad was just a lady who wanted to experience everything.

Predictably unpredictable. That was what her generation and those close to her would tease. Having a heart of a curios child, she would go to leaps and bounds to search for answers. Her mood changes with the moon, getting more emotional the closer the full moon was. One could see the cracks of her mask or the shift of her attitude - her quips, her snappy replies, the way she flirts with others, and her being a bit touch-starved.

Backstory

Nobody in her family ever told her about their mysterious history. Why would they? Gladiolus was still too young to understand it. They let Gladiolus do whatever she liked during her childhood. Granted that she do good in school as well as attend her trainings.

What she did in her down time was either swim around the lake or explore the rivers around the town. They did not mind her swimming around as they can keep an eye on her from a distance but exploration was a bit dangerous especially when her flaming red hair gave her away as member of the founding family. They restricted her from going out to the woods by giving her more training and work.

Her transformation when she turned 11 was the most memorable thing that happened to her as she felt more free in this form. She felt powerful, unstoppable. She felt she can do anything, accidentally summoning a lightning storm. The family thought that was enough and ordered Glad to come back. She did not listen. Going back in the water, she evaded those who tried to capture her. This caused a little manhunt under water and Glad was severely punished from her mischief. She was not allowed to go swimming for a year.

For someone who is considered as a child still, Gladiolus was devastated by the punishment. She fell into depression shortly after, refusing to do anything with the family and locking herself in her room. Her own grandfather was concerned about this and decided to take Glad outside the town to visit a nearvy city. Looking around with disinterest, she heard the most peculiar sound. Following it to the source, she found herself before a street performer with an instrument she never saw and it gave off something akin to bagpipes and violin combined. The performer was also singing, attracting people with his voice and expression, coaxing others to dance and sing with him.

Enthralled by the sound, she turned to her grandfather and he nodded, already giving Glad permission. The rest was history. Gladiolus studied music and she had mastered most of the instruments - her favorite was the hurdy-gurdy.

One day, while composing another song, she thought back to the street performer. Why not share her talent to the others? Let them discover the beauty of music and arts. With that, she entered the world of performance.

Miscellaneous

If your character is a member of a founding family, would they attempt to help or hinder the travelers
She would do nothing for the most part but watch, maybe record the events that followed to turn it into a song. If she was to be asked by the other founding members to try and warn the winner, she will.

Hycinth Adventurine

Run! by Exit Eden
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Species: Faerie/ Water
Sexuality: Demisexual
Occupation: Butler/ Bodyguard
Role: Citizen

Personality

Likes:
  • The forest
  • Ceremonies
  • Exploration
  • Potion making
  • The hunt
Dislikes:
  • Loud people
  • Disrespectful ones
  • His Faerie form
  • Witchcraft [The ones where his abilities are nulled]

Hyacinth is a very cheerful man, most of the time approachable and benevolent. Children, however always see right through him, being scared and telling their parent at how 'scary' or 'sinister' he was. Luckily for him, children were rarely believed. His favorite pastime would be to cause minor inconveniences or mischief around the town. Though people have their suspicions, they can't prove it was Hyacinth.

In idle times where he is not needed by the family, he would be out and about following Gladiolus to see what mischief the young master would sink her toes into.

Even with his nature as a faerie, Hyacinth is, first and foremost, a butler. He would obey any orders and requests from his master without any questions even if it was against his ideals. He would only talk about what is on his mind behind closed door.

Backstory

The boy, not having a name then, was not born in the town but was offered as a gift to one of the founding family in that area. He did not know who was supposed to take him and he only knew that he was not going to live long. He knew that a slave like him was going to be killed and his corpse would be preserved to make money off. He had the 'most exquisite wings anyone has ever seen'.

With charms and iron burning into his skin, his wings spread by chains to show the 'buyers' what they are buying, his hope was dwindling.

The first person to actually come near was a pair of humans. One was an old man, reeking of magic, the other was a girl his age group. "This is the first time I have seen a fae in all of their glory," the old man commented with a frown.

"I do not think he should be in a cage. He is in pain," the girl stated, moving closer. "Grand papa?"

"Don't worry, my little flower," the old man started before they walked away.

The boy did not really think about the two as he slept the night away. When he woke up, there was no burning sensation from the iron chains and no ache from the charms. He only felt warmth. He felt like he was protected. Opening his eyes, he saw someone carrying him out of the place. A blindfold was then placed on his eyes.

"Thank my daughter later when we get out," the man stated as soft rustles were heard and thumps from something. He heard something akin to a melon being smashed into the ground. "Do you have a name, boy?" he asked.

"No," he whimpered.

"We will name you later on, then," the man sighed. By the time they got out, the boy found himself near the lake. The danger was not over. He needed to get away but to where? He does not know where he originally came from nor does he have a real purpose. He only wanted to live. As he was having these questions in his head, the human carrying him met up with the old man and the red haired girl from earlier.

Being thankful to his rescuers, he unconsciously promised himself a lifetime of servitude. The human merely smiled before patting the boy. "You will have to announce that again when you really are ready," he stated ominously.

He was then under the Mulvahil Family, under the tutelage of the servants, the employees and even the main family themselves. He found home.

Time was kind to the faerie, now named Hyacinth Adventurine. His training involved everything under the sun to become the perfect butler. The Mulhavil family also did not ignore his origin or his kind. They had older faeries tutoring him of their ways and practices and even teaching him how to wield magic effectively. He was also given a bit of knowledge about the town but not all.

By 18, he was already presented as Miss Glad's personal butler. He was prepared for a bratty and high-strung person like the ladies in the house. He was prepared for tantrums and a bossy attitude. He was not prepared for a fiery gremlin looking for trouble. So many times he has to get her out of it and so many times he was punished.

Over years, he had grown to like the fiery little lady. It was better to join her and keep the damage low than try to tell her 'no'.

Miscellaneous

If your character is a citizen, do they know the truth of the festival and how do they feel about that?
Yes. He has been with the founding family for most of his life, thus, already knowing what is happening in the forest during the hunt. He will also agree with Amarantha Whitmore and the Fleming heir that the rituals should proceed no matter what and that no amount of intervention can stop it.

If youve ever come across someone who you were supposed to trust but had a slight feeling you shoudnt, then youve already met Doc Grady. The man seems like a kind fellow who only wants the best for his community, but he always seems to have an agenda of his own... sometimes even against the foundjng families he serves under.

An intelligent man, be runs a surgical office that doubles as a veterinary clinic for thos who walk on a more wild side of life. He is incredibly skilled at his job, and takes his work very seriously... sometimes a bit too seriously. He has been known to 'trick' unsuspecting patients into giving up more blood than originally allotted, and even conducts hos own experiments on those who may not be quicker on the mental draw.

of course, he knows much of his work isnt aimply brushed aside. Therefore, he attempts to use his work as a bargaining chip for members kf the families. Blood for those who must quench their thirst on things other than animals are on the tops of his lists. Need a body dug up? Hes the guy to call. Want someone to come down with a terrible cold? Hes got you covered. Need someone hacked into a million pieces and spread over the farm fields for the crows to find? Nothing but a jobs day of work. Hes not afraid to get things done, and sometimes even thrills himself if its a messy job.

Despite his darker mentality, he is a man of good taste. He likes his drinks cold, enjoys classical music with the rest of the audience, and is always one of the first to attend the festivities. He makes sure his friendly facade is nearly impenetrable... nearly.

Backstory

Even as a young boy, Grady has always had an interest in sciences... particularily those of the biological kind. He would use his shadow transformation abilities to catch small animals for his experiments and research, and by the time he was a young man, he knew the ins and outs of every living vermin animal on the side of the county. Perhaps this is why many hired him as an exterminator for their homes and businesses.

but being a Supernatural creature of darkness drives one to often look beyond what is socially acceptable, especially when that society is run by human beings. The abductions become less about the missing family cat or dog and more about how the little old man or lonely widow from next door suddenly vanished from their homes.

every time the suspicion would rise to quickly in these villas and cities, Grady would pack up his office and move down the line to the next town. It only took until facing and escaping execution by way of the noose that Grady realized he shouldn't be finding his business in a place run by normal citizens. This is why he came to settle in this lovely, spooky town. He could be amongst those of his own Supernatural kind while still finding prey to practice 'medicine' on. It's a win win for a devil like himself.

Miscellaneous

If your character is a citizen, do they know the truth of the festival and how do they feel about that?

Grady is fully aware of the festivals and their underlying purposes. Considering the work he has done for the families, he couldn't be happier to participate in the grievous festivities hidden under beautiful flowers.

In his younger and more rebellious years. Olenn could've been described as an energetic young man with the world ahead of him open for prospect. He was keen and sharp witted, but knew how to treat with respect those who deserved it. He was kind and thoughtful, and had an unruly type of humor about him where pranks and foolishness ran wild with youth.

Unfortunately, those years are long gone and age is a cruel mistress. Now these days, Olenn is reserved and even more cautious, constantly looking over his shoulder in paranoid fashion as if always on the run from something. He is gloomy and depressed, wishing every day that death would come swiftly for his aching heart and suffering soul. He is quiet and doesn't speak much, and the bottle of liquor has become his best friend. He sleeps too much and remembers the night terrors as if they were memories. His outlook on life is no longer an outstretching landscape before hum, but instead a cage with black iron bars and no hope for escape.

Backstory

Olenn was born the middle child of his family, and was raised under strict house rules laid down by his father. He learned very quickly that his family was not the most well off, and he would find himself along with his brothers taking up chores around the family homestead in order to keep it running smoothly. It was from this that he learned his skills with horses and large domestic animals. Later on in life, his father Contracted an illness that degraded his health rapidly, and the family was soon left to his elder brother after his father's passing.

Olenn left home when he was around 17 and joined another group of young men in a cross country journey. They practically lived off of the land, and it was here that Olenn learned not only how to hunt and create ammo for his bow, but also how to have fun. With no rules being by oneself, they young men found pleasure in binging on drink and food at passing pubs, finding good company around campfires, and even engaging in a bit of thievery and trouble when food sources ran low.

but in a botched robbery, Olenn realized he didn't want to live the rest of his life a criminal on the run. The family his crew had targeted had a daughter that Olenn had taken a fancy to. Because of his love for this woman, he reshaped his ways and attempted to mend the wrongs against her father, offering to help with his farm and lands in order to gain his trust. Over time, the family grew to accept Olenn as their own, and he soon married the young woman afterward.

the two lived happily for many months before they split off from her family to head out on their own. Olenn took them to a city, renting a small place with money he received through odd jobs. Soon, he realized his wife was pregnant with his children, two twin boys to be exact. He couldn't have been happier. And this is when he learned how heartache could spring at any moment.

after returning homeate after an evening hunt, he entered the house to find his wife murdered in her own bed. The commotion caused suspicion eith his neighbors and the townspeople, and he soon foudn himself on the run, having been believed to be the murderer of his own wife and unborn sons. He ran and ran until he found himself at his current location. He drinks and sleeps his days away now, half hoping that death will come to him in the night and take his sufferings away.

Miscellaneous

If your character is a traveler, would you be okay with them entering the forest after the festival?

absolutely, kind of hoping for a way he can enter. He would be a formidable opponent, but his crushed soul and lack of a will to continue would be an interesting clash. The instinct to fight and live or the willingness to die.
