Clothing choice:
For casual wear, Jack often wears a dark brown bomber jacket, denim jeans and boots. He also has a hat which he sometimes wears (see picture)

History:
Jack was born just outside Edinburgh and named after his grandfather. From a young age, he was taught "right and wrong", most notably from said grandfather who was a retired Royal Navy officer. This was due to his parents being at work as lawyers.
As a result of standing up to bullies, both at school and pretty much everywhere he saw them Jack got beat up a lot. The most notable example was when he was thirteen and saw three teenagers try to rob a young disabled man.
Jack didn't think, he ran straight into the line of fire. He did put up a fight but the robbers outnumbered and "out-gunned" him. Despite taking one hell of a beating, Jack kept fighting them off. Jack and the young man were eventually able to drive the robbers away (the young man even using his prosthetic leg as a weapon). The young man, who revealed himself as Thomas Marston took Jack in and examined his wounds, revealing that he had actually lost his leg while serving as a medic in the British army.
He was thinking of joining the armed forces himself but his grandfather and parents talked him out of it, telling him that there were other ways of helping people. His parents wanted him to be a lawyer like them and so tried to convince him that using the law was the best way to help people. Jack disliked this idea as it meant that sometimes he would be defending criminals but stuck with it, after all everyone regardless of their crimes is entitled to a fair trial.
Sadly, Jack's grandfather developed a brain tumour and died when Jack was twenty. On his deathbed, he told Jack that he should follow whatever path he wanted and not to waste his life in a job he didn't like.
At the age of twenty Jack joined the Royal Navy instead as his grandfather had served in the Royal Navy. Jack trained as a Royal Navy marine, eventually joining the 43 Command Fleet Protection Group as a rifleman. He took part in several operations worldwide that for the most part ran smoothly.
Things changed during an operation in Nigeria where the platoon Jack was a part of was tasked in taking out pirates who had seized a cruise ship called "The ontdekkingsreisiger" (Afrikaans for explorer) that had gone off course and drifted too close to pirate waters.
Jack along with four other marines was tasked with securing hostages locked in the engine room. A gun-battle took place but one of the hostages was killed in the crossfire. He served in two more operations before handing in his resignation, unable to cope with the guilt. He left the Royal Navy and took a job in IT in Edinburgh, spending his weekends mountain hiking as a means of personal therapy.
He made changes to his look such as growing his hair to separate himself from the Marine lifestyle.
Six months later, Richmond Valentine put his plan of "curing" the world into practice. Thankfully, as Jack was hiking he was unaffected but watched in horror as the chaos unfolded. By the time he got back, the chaos was over and he was only able to help in the aftermath.

Clifton Hall School (primary and secondary): A-levels in Law, history, English Literature and Physical Education
University of Edinburgh: Was attempting Law Degree but dropped out to join Royal Navy.
