"Calm down. They can't bother you unless you give them a reason to."
Her crystal eyes peered into his amber irises. Her gaze filled with uncertainty. She didn't respond. Ruri followed Ling, walking down a street that guided them back to their previous direction. She ignored the hand pressed against the small of her back. Now wasn't the time to feel flustered. Her hand clutched the front of his jacket. Ten minutes later, Ling escorted her inside his apartment. She never realized how close their homes were. Her own complex was down the street. After Ling closed the door, Ruri removed his jacket from her shoulders. She draped it over a nearby chair.
"Tea sounds lovely. Thank you," she replied gently. Ruri observed her surroundings, inspecting his home. It was larger than her apartment. However, it didn't surprise her. She recently moved to Ba Sing Se. For all she knew, Ling lived here for years. She padded across the floor and took a seat in front of a table. A sigh escaped her lips. A wave of exhaustion washed over her. A part of her regretted taking a nightly stroll.
"Thank you for helping me, Ling. It's been awhile since I've received this much kindness," she murmured.
