The leak in the roof woke the young man who was sitting on the run down couch up, He blinked a few times before groaning loudly and sitting up. He looked around the empty apartment, nothing but trash and spent shotgun shells were on the floor. The young man stood up and limped his way to the bathroom. He turned the light and glanced at himself in the mirror, his short light brown, almost tan hair and hazel eyes were his most alerting features.

He turned on the faucet and splashed some cold water in his face to wake himself up. After he was fully awake and alert, he noticed his stubble was starting to get long again. "No point in shaving." he said to himself as he limped out to the bathroom and over to the old CB radio he kept with him. He checked to make sure it was on. He turned to the broadcasting station and began his normal routine. "Is any out there?, Hello?" he asked

The sound of the station woke the sleeping girl up as she glanced at the radio she had found the other day. She picked it up, as she turned up the volume, but she began to lose the transmission. "No, c'mon! Please!" She messed with the radio in hopes of fixing it, but slowly the signal cut out. She cursed under her breath as she stood up from the wall she was leaning against. How long had she been sitting there, waiting for a sign of life with the radio? She knew one thing for sure, there was some other person out in the city who had not gotten affected. If she was lucky, that might have been her brother.

She ran her hands threw her dirty blonde hair and tried to remember the last time she saw her face. She was too busy going through the city, living off of what she could find, and surviving the disease, that she never had the time to look at herself anymore. The only thing she could remember besides her hair was her blue eyes. The sound of footsteps reached her ears, as she hurriedly picked up her radio and baseball bat. Maybe hiding in an alleyway wasn't a good idea.

Russ groaned as he struggled to maintain his balance as he wobbled down stairs to the ground floor. The ground floor was in complete disarray. Furniture was overturned, cable hung from the ceiling and there was some leakage. Russ shuffled through the puddles and made his way to the front door. He unlocked the bolted front door and took a look around. The sun was high in the sky. Russ spotted a mumbler who was shuffling along the road. Russ grabbed his shotgun and aimed for the head. The mumbler crumpled to the ground, Russ chuckled to himself, I'm getting good at this he thought to himself.
