Age: 19
Description: Dani is a lithe and agile girl with more flexibility than strength. She's small too, standing at about 5'2 without her combat boots. She doesn't wear much makeup and doesn't care for it really. Her outfits are usually dark in color, but not much effort is put into them. Converse, jeans and a t-shirt or tank top most days. Her skin is somewhat sensitive and tends to bruise easily, and she has dandelion flower tattoos placed strategically up her inner left forearm.

Personality: Dani is a relatively quiet girl. She tends to listen and observe more rather then speak up herself. She is intelligent and compassionate, the kind of friend that's loyal to a fault and goes out of her way to make others smile. She rarely stands up for herself but when it comes to defending those she cares about, she's intensely altruistic and the offender better be careful because taking punches taught her how to throw one too. Most of the time she's pretty easygoing though and when she's focused on something, it's hard to pull her out of it

History:
Most of what Dani knows about her parents before her came from her mother's sister, Laura. Prior to living with Laura and her husband, all that Dani had been told was that her parents had loved each other at one point, but then Dani came along and ruined it. She was an accident, a mistake, unwanted before she was even born. It was only due to harmful religious indoctrination and general observance of family tradition that Dani was kept. It was downhill from there.
So perhaps it should have been more predictable when, 8 years later, Mrs. Rodriguez walked in from what was supposedly a date night, pulled her father's pistol from his belt by the door and shot Mr. Rodriguez 3 times in the chest without hesitation. Dani and her babysitter had noticed the car pull up the driveway, so by the time her father hit the ground, Dani was standing at the bottom of the steps. Just in time to watch her mother blow her own brains out before her babysitter picked her up like a football and kept her upstairs while the police rolled into the neighborhood. To this day, there are cops in that town that don't believe their buddy Rodriguez was an abusive asshole. But they don't have to live with the aftermath.

Dani came to live with her aunt and uncle after that, and though she was still affected by everything that came before, her quality of life greatly improved from that point on. Of course, there were a lot of ups and downs over the years; Laura and Andre weren't perfect, and they certainly weren't ready to take in their traumatized niece when they did, but after the transition to a healthier home and a lot of therapy, Dani decided to go to college. She took a gap year to earn money and figure things out, but now she feels just about ready to stand on her own two feet.

Cartersville, GA
July

Dani stood triumphantly in the middle of the garage of her childhood house, hands on her hips and smile on her face. The garage doors were open to let in whatever breeze would waft through every so often, but on a hot and humid day like this, Dani was mostly relying on the two standing fans she had set up by her phone speakers, playing Lorde over the constant summer chorus of cicadas. She was wearing a black bralette, which displayed her shoulder blades, jutting out sharply from under a pair of what used to be perfectly white overall shorts. However, after her day of painting, it was dotted and smeared with a wide variety of shades. She had also braided her long hair and worked the braid into a bun that was coming apart by early afternoon. It was a good thing she was wearing a bandana as well, because despite the fans, there was no avoiding the heat. She was sweaty and tired, but satisfied with her work.

Over the past couple of weeks, Dani had spent most of her time decorating, moving in and otherwise modifying the house she was going to be living in for the foreseeable future. Her aunt an uncle had helped by remodeling a bit before Dani's date to arrive and helping with a full deep clean so everything was as safe as possible. They had even stayed a couple of nights with her in the house to make sure she'd be alright, but she sent them back after the weekend because she knew her cousin didn't want to have to ride the bus.
She didn't want to let them know how much it bothered her that, despite the lack of carpets replaced with new tile, despite the new furniture and revamped kitchen...it was still the same house.

So she painted. She brought in cat-friendly plants. She bought a funky lamp and fish magnets for the fridge. She searched for jobs online.
And in two weeks, the house had a whole new look. It was structured the same, and it was a bit too big for just one person, but Dani could live with that. She and Snow spent almost all their time inside, working on just that. Snow exploring and Dani...keeping herself busy. Today was the first day she had spent any time in view of her neighbors, taking advantage of the sunny day.

Within view of the garage was the front yard, where Dani had set up a pop-up tent for her beautiful white cat, Snowball. She was wrestling with a mouse toy that then fell into her water bowl before loudly complaining for her mother to come fix it. People tend to underestimate how loud a cat can be, when they're determined. Especially deaf cats. Dani turned away from admiring her mural masterpieces with a roll of her eyes. She unzipped the tent and fixed the dilemma with a chuckle. "Perfect timing as always, Snow," she murmured before scooping her up and walking back toward the newly painted garage walls. They were coated in varying shades of blue, black, and purple, blending into each other like an undulating sea, except on the main wall she now stood in front of, which depicted a jet-black raven, wings unfurled above bluish clouds and a lavender sky. "What do you think?" she bounced the cat in her arms, who meowed loudly again.
