• Story •

The year was 2015. The world had descended into another World War, although it had ended just as quickly as it had started. The governments of the world had dove into chemical warfare, for this was no longer a fair fight. Nobody knows who dropped the virus, "Virus X" as others called it, or when it had started, but all the survivors remember now is it swept over the world in the blink of an eye. What was once just another world war was now possibly the end of civilization as we know it.

Naturally, survivors had fled to areas that were once less populated. The north, the backwoods of the south, even west beyond the Rocky Mountains. Their survivors began to find peace. The woods provided plenty of food, while the colder temperatures of Oregon and Washington made day's slightly more bearable. It was sort of a refuge for those who wished to survive easily if it was possible at all.

As 2 years passed people began to think they are safe, but problems emerged. Some took to cannibalism saying the animals they hunted could become infected too. This was never proven to be true, but that didn't stop the rumour from spreading like wildfire. Some survivors began to band together, create groups and families in broken down cities, finding comfort in numbers. Some roam alone.

In addition, some are immune to the virus. It is unknown as to why, and very few actually carry this immunity. Said immunity can be passed genetically.

• Plot •

Survivors are flocking to the east coast to board the last boats to safety. This has brought them through the town Huber Heights, located in Ohio surrounded by woods and highways. Being in a far-out place not many people have gone through the town leaving some supplies still there. A small group of survivors from there in hopes of making it to Norfolk, Virginia.

As the group moves a cannibal pack hunts them, tracking their movements as they travel to Virginia.

• Xelapin Virus •

Symptoms

5 minutes: a Mild headache, cough, and runny nose.
30 minutes: Severe cold-like symptoms. I.e Migraine, sore throat, cough, sneezing.
1 hour: Muscle spasm and cold sweats replace cold symptoms.
2 hours: Extreme body heat and loss of muscle movement.
5 hours: Infected has a hard time staying awake and sharp pains erupt through the body.
9 hours: Internal organs begin to fail and internal bleeding.
10 hours: Lungs fill with blood and infected dies.
24 hours: The body has restarted and reverted back to primal instincts.

People infected revert back to primal instincts and only think of killing. They have very little energy in the night. In the day they have a lot of energy and can jog slowly. Any shot to the body that would kill a normal human can kill them.

Can you survive HELL?

Fiona walked through a parking lot her mind wandering. It's been almost a few months since she formed the pack. She smirked, they were so easy to manipulate to do her whim. As she walked she took note of the surroundings. Ohio, what a place it seemed to be only farms and a couple cities. It was pitiful. Though the soil here would be great for farming that's if she ate actual food.

She was a cannibal and a leader. From the 1st year of this apocalypse, she's been a cannibal though she's only been a leader for 7 months. Her group was small but, strong. They had evolved after eating as much human meat as they had. Fiona had an immense strength that could take someone down with one punch but, only if they weren't some big muscular person.

Again looking at her surrounding she saw a Rural King in the distance, a good place to find materials and weapons. From her knowledge, it was a farming and hunting store. Turning around she looked at the three other people in her small group saying, "Okay, here's the plan. We're going to head into that Rural King in the distance, collect some stuff, and get out. Maybe there will be people in there we can have." She smirked at the end of her sentence.

The place was empty of people except for her group. Charlotte was in the food section of the place, looking at canned goods for anything salvageable. There wasn't much though; it seems as if all the food was ransacked before they got here. Sadly a few of the cans she's picked up have expired leaving her to only groan and put it back. The other's were lucky, they got to look at weapons and clothes while she's stuck looking at expired food.

Her mind wandered as she continued looking at the cans. 2 years since she last saw her friends, 2 years since she last lay in an actual bed. Charlotte still thought of her dead friends; they were her family, her friends, and her hope. Now she had a new family to bring her hope that the world wasn't that bad, that there was good in it. She loved her group and didn't know what she would do without them. Thinking about it she would probably be dead and that was a good scenario.

Turning from the cans knelt on the floor looking at the noodles on the bottom. Noodles tended to last a long time and she could easily make good food with it. Grabbing a few spaghetti bags she got up and moved to a new aisle. There was rice down this one. Again she grabbed a few bags and moved on till finally there was nothing else she could find. Finally walking away from the food she searched for there groups leader Gideon.

She found him in the weapons section and admired him for a second. Since they first met she's always thought of him as attractive and had developed a very small crush. Breaking from her staring she asked, "How's it going over here? I found quite a bit of food."

GIDEON

Gideon stood in the weapons section of the Rural King, a sort of catch all store that was a scavenger's paradise. He examined the empty gun racks, having been pilfered long ago. A couple pistols and a rifle were still there, along with a few boxes of ammunition hidden behind the counter, along with the aged skeleton of a long dead employee. Never hurt to have more weapons, especially with all the rumors Gideon had been hearing. Bandits, cannibals, those...things. All of them were dangerous, but luckily, all could be stopped with a solid shot to the torso. He stuffed the weapons and ammo into his large duffel bag, humming a little tune to himself as he did so. He heard footsteps behind him, and glanced over his shoulder, his body tense. He relaxed as he saw it was only Charlotte, his second in command. She was a nice girl. A pretty one. But he wasn't sure exactly how he felt about her. The pain of losing his wife was still strong.

"Hey there," he said to her, "Glad you found some food. Hope it's better than all that squirrel we've been eating lately. I found a few guns and some ammo. I think Otis is somewhere around here. Probably in the liquor section." He paused. "Definitely in the liquor section. Remind me to get to him before he gets wasted and starts raising hell. Any idea how everyone else is doing? Everything still all clear outside?"

OTIS

"Come to papa," Otis murmured. His pockets were stuffed with packets of cigarettes, and now he was filling his backpack with cans of beer he had ripped out of their cardboard cases. They were lukewarm, but they were still drinkable, and that was all Otis needed. He rewarded himself for his hard work by cracking open one of the cans and drinking deeply from it, relishing the taste. He tossed the can aside, lit a cigarette, and continued walking down the aisle, lazily stuffing medicine, clothes, and whatever else that could be potentially useful into his bag. What a boring job. He wished they would raid a mechanic shop or something. Maybe he could fix up some cars, and they could stop just walking around everywhere. Until then, he supposed, he could make himself useful by making sure no one else had to endure the pains of drunkenness by drinking all the beer himself.

He sat down in the aisle, his feet aching, cigarette smoke rising lazily above his head. He sighed. He could really go for another beer right about now.

Braelynn was in the pharmacy area and was quite pleased with the selection they still had stalked. She opened her medical bag and began to meticulously restalk the items she really needed in her pack. She watched around her carefully aware of her surroundings at all times. Military bearings that were instilled in her were still there. She zipped up the back and opened her backpack and began to shove things in it as well. She hopped over the counter and headed towards food area where she could hear Charlotte and Gideon where. She passed by Otis and raised her eyebrow curiously at the man who was plopped on his ass. She made her way around to where there were hopefully books for her to take along with her. She needed new reading material, oh and pens and journals. She had already filled up about 10 since the start of the mess the world was currently in. She needed some journals for medical things for her to keep notes in the field. She also really needed permanent markers for field marking.

She wandered through the store at a rather leisurely pace keeping all her senses open. Something nagged at her though. She looked over her shoulder before she grabbed what she needed and headed back to where Charlotte and Gideon were, "Hey. I think we should wrap up here pretty soon. I got a strange feeling that just overcame me." She always joked and called it her Immune senses, because she had feelings that usually meant something bad was going to happen and usually she was right. She found out she was immune when she came in contact with an infected and they managed to get a chomp on her shoulder. Lucky for her she had an arrow and jammed it into the infected's head with a huge force before she ran for cover to wait out her own transformation, but it never came and she realized that she never had to really fear the infected biting or scratching her.

Alice walked along with the rest of her pack, keeping her eyes peeled for potential threats. She joined the group as a bit of a straggler, but never looked back. The only regret was Darren wasn't with her. The jingle of his dog tags around her neck let her know he wasn't completely gone. She didn't really believe in an afterlife, but she felt he was with her every step of the way. She could only hope he was proud of her for being so independent after he was gone. She hadn't relapsed, her mental state had been pretty stable, and she felt good. Better than she usually felt, anyway.

She looked to Fiona, nodding to the leader of their group. Alice wasn't fond of the girl, only because she seemed too sweet to really be leading people in this situation. However, she was the one who held power, and if Alice went against that power, she'd find herself at the sharp end of many sticks. People in the pack trusted Fiona and respected her as a leader, so she sucked it up and just dealt with it. She wasn't going to push back against her leadership unless others decided they wanted out too. If that was the case, she would be interested in starting her own pack, and leading her own people across the country.

"Sounds good, girlie." She told her, swinging her bat as she listened to Fiona. She looked towards the store they were coming upon, hoping they had some sort of thicker pants than what she was wearing. They were better than the shorts that she started the damn apocalypse with, but they were thin and constricting. She wanted something thick, something easy to move around in, and something with a lot of pockets. Like, a lot of pockets. Actual pockets, too, none of that fake pocket bullshit that girls had to deal with. Deep pockets so she could store more stuff. Also booze, she wanted booze.

As much as she wanted to just get their shit and go, she was kind of hoping there would be someone there to put up a fight. She was itching to bash someone over the head, even if it was just a biter or two. She was feeling irritated for no good reason, and she had some jitters going on all over. She was used to those, this being her second time withdrawing. Stretching her arms in front of her in an attempt to calm herself slightly, she hopped from one foot to the other.

"Cool, let's do this."

While the others were looting the shop, Hiro had decided to keep watch. He kept glancing inside to the others, but kept most of his attention outside. He hadn't seen anything worth reporting, some lurkers off in the distance but not enough to bother with. So long as the group wasn't screaming and shouting, they wouldn't get attracted to the store.

After a while, he glanced back again, only to see them starting to group. Deciding he should probably be in on whatever they were talking about, he stepped inside. He ruffled his hair, stopping next to the group, taking note Otis wasn't with the three and was probably finding booze. He took a quick glance at Gideon, reminding himself for the umpteenth time that it wasn't happening.

"Hey, so everything looks clear for now, um, so if we wanted to get going soon we should be fine." He gestured outside. "Hope you guys found some good stuff!" He smiled at the group, not really needing anything himself for now. He actually had quite a bit of food and travel items, so he tended to let the group have most of what they found. He knew if he was desperate, they'd offer some stuff, too, so he wasn't super concerned about not being fed. If he got low on food, he'd restock, but he still had road snacks.

He didn't go outside again, but he did look out from the window, hoping not to be caught off guard. He didn't want anyone, including himself, to die because he hadn't been watching properly. He wasn't about to have that guilt on his shoulders. He had his gun in his hand just in case as well, but he didn't have the safety off. He kept his trigger discipline in mind and kept it aimed at the ground. He wasn't stupid, he knew how to handle firearms.

Looking around her before she stepped out from the trees. Making her way to the parking lot of the Rural King. She needed to get in there and grab a few things. However she had noticed a watch outside the door. Walkers in the parking lot closer to her then anything else and not to far back was another group, that she was more then positive were not here for supplies. She slowly pulled out her gun and crouched behind a car. Her eyes scanned everything as she moved low along the cars. She dodged in and out of them as she got closer to the building. Her eyes followed the watch as it went inside. She knew better then to go through the front. Making her way to the back of the building, she pryed the back door open and slipped in. She looked through the storage for what she needed. She needed sime medical supplies and a few other items. She peaked through the back doors to count the others inside. 5 others were going through the store. Doing her best to keep quiet she picked out what she needed before going to the back door once more.

She looked out the door and saw that the other group was closer including the walkers. She cursed and looked around. Climbing, the shelves to the roof. She pushed the sun light out and made her way onto the roof, she had waved for shadow her dog to hide till she came back down. She raised a eye brow when she saw a sniper rifle in the hands of a dead body with ammo by it."starvation." She muttered and pried the decaying flesh from the gun. Kneeling and laying down, she adjusted the scope and looked out at the parking lot, the walkers had gotten closer and the other group defiently visible now, she zoomed in on them and looked them all over. Her sights stopped on a male. He looked familiar to her, however how would she know a cannibal, she seen there type before. Her eyes glowered as she loaded a round into the rifle. Keeping an eye out as things got closer." Oh hell." She muttered. As she threw the rifle over her shoulder and snatched the amo. Her body swiftly moved down from the roof and nimbly move back to the ground. She called for her dog and ran for the door to the stor.s she opened it and walked in. Her eyes glanced to the window. She walked for the front door of the store her hands up to the watcher." Hey woah woah, I am not here to fuck up your world or anything, but uh the walkers have gotten closer to the building and not to far out is a Canniabal group I am assuming either followed you or is really just coming to a rural king." She said. Her hands still up." You either are gonna stay or get every one out the back way less, walkers still have to kill them, but do so quietly." Hailey said

Jasper
Jasper looked at his leader with a dark look on his face. She thought she was the one who was manipulatin them. However he knew better he was a lot smarter then she thought he was. He normally stood his ground when she said something. He knew though they actually needed supplies. The only reason he followed her and was her second in command is because he knew he was safer in a group and threatened her to be second in command. He normally tried to go with what she said. Though this time he agreed. They made there way for the Rural King. He could of sworn he saw something shinning on the roof. He stopped and looked around. He looked at his leader, but shook his head. As they got closer the shinning object got a bit clearer. He pulled his glasses up a minute then back down.

Jasper watched it finally move and disappear. Well there went his fear of a sniper. They would of been screwed if there was a sniper on that roof. However the loss of something shinning ment there were people in the Rural King. He kept himself at the back, of the others to make sure nothing or no one snuck up on them.
