I signed up like, a month ago, and kept putting writing this off to read the rules. I...think I've done that now. Probably. ...the site's kinda big.

So, at the risk of being wrong:

A friend suggested I join Iwaku, since I've been looking for a good place to host games. Can't really say how that's going to go yet, but I'm encouraged to see the forum seems to have a liberal policy on what subject matter can and can't be written about. Hoping that'll be a good omen.

I've been roleplaying for around 10 years, and have DM'd for 6 of them. I favour the fantasy genre, since magic is great (and I can be a witch!). More specifically, as a player, my characters are usually androgynous and I appreciate being able to resolve things without fighting. DM-wise, I try to design realistic and challenging games, usually incorporating elements of horror to contrast with the pretty, pretty magic fantasy worlds like. The results usually seem well received, so hopefully I'll have time to demonstrate on here.

I think that'll do. ...or did I miss something important?

Welcome, Teal :) Glad you found us, and decided to say hi! Before I answer, can you clarify what you mean about liberal policy on subject matter? Cause I'm not sure if you mean like... you can write any genre/style or if you mean policies on sexual content. In which case, the latter has some rules that are definitely important to be clear on!

Welcome aboard, Teal-- glad to have you! Have a cookie.

Kind of both? I know there are several rules on the sexual content bit - Red Star Forums for anything explicit, being the big one, I think. No pornographic images of real people; NSFW Art needs to be behind spoilers (even in the Red section) as does sexual content that's natural to the game itself outside of the Red Star section; members with Blue Stars are underage so respect that.

I think that's the major ones. Did I miss any?

What I meant was that, even with those restrictions, that's quite a liberal policy. Even if all matters related to sex (prostitution, any description of nude characters, seduction as a concept, romantic enchantment, etc.) have to be confined to the Red Star section, at least they're allowed on the forum without excessively vague language. ...do all matters related to sex need to be confined to the Red Star section too?

That is, assuming I have the right of that? I may have missed some rules.

Edit: For clarification, I'm pretty happy confining all NSFW content to the Red section.

Basically, anything that is EXPLICITLY sexual needs to be (for you, because redstar) in the Red Star forums - you also cannot do any sort of sexual content with a Blue Star member, as you covered - not even in PMs, as that's still a breach of the rules. Sexual content needs to be relegated to the bedroom forums, though there is an allowance for some content within 1x1s, provided it is kept between proper star-colors AND is put within spoilers (and it cannot be a smut/ERP based 1x1).

Anything that ISN'T outrightly sexual (which is defined by anything involving the vivid description of nudity/actual sexual acts) doesn't need to be in Red Star - so fade to blacks and such are fine within standard RPs. So prostitution, nude characters (without description of nude bits), seduction, enchantments, all that are fine, as long as there is no sexual acts being described within the context of those things.

For example, you may portray a prostitute in any RP (group, 1x1, even with blue stars) - but you may not actively describe that prostitutes sexual conquests and/or engage in writing sexual content within those RP (if they aren't in the redstar section).

I started writing sextion XD It's time for bed. But I hope that adds some clarity!! If I missed anything, I'm sure someone'll be able to jump in :)

Welcome to Iwaku, Teal! :D You seem to be finding your way around pretty well, so I'm just gonna say I hope you enjoy your time here ^.^

Your DM style sounds really interesting, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what roleplays you put up in the future (and maybe joining one--who knows?).
