Gifs in avatars?

I just changed my avatar, and, it's supposed to be an animated gif, but it looks static to me. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or are avatars in general not allowed to have animated gifs?
 
I just tried to do that not too long ago. I believe it's the latter, but a member can't always be too sure.
 
If the gif is in the right size you should be able to make it work. As stated in this thread:

The gif needs to be under 204kb in filesize (and 200px in width)! Otherwise the avatar auto resizes!

Oh, ok, thank you! I figured it was some sort of size issue but I didn't know what dimensions I needed.
