Reality, fantasy, and sci-fi's CRAAAAZY fauna. Which one makes you wonder "who made THAT thing?" ...And no one can mention the platypus. I'll start with the Owlbear. Its pretty much what it says on the tin. Its an owl combined with a bear. D&D made it up as a sack of hit points and occasionally as something to get spell components off of (apparently their feathers are good for that). I dunno if it was just my DM, but that latter part was always of the "Twenty Bear Asses" type of failure, wherein the owlbear lacked an ass/feather/foot/head.
