You walk along a dusty forest path, the prints of boots and hooves marking it as well traveled. The sounds of nature surround you, birdsong and insect calls, the rustling of wind through the branches, and the bickering of the twins. All was well. All, that is, except that your horses had all spooked a while back and taken off without you. All that you have is what you can carry, and tracking down your mounts and pack animals was proving more tedious than might have been expected.

You round a corner into a clearing that looked like it was often used for camping. An unnaturally large raven stands in the very center of the path. Its head turns back and forth, surveying you with one pale gold eye and one silver. Glinting around its neck is a gold chain, with five square-cut emeralds set along it. The raven gave one definitive caw, spreading its wings wide as a bright flash from the central gem engulfs you.

You awake to the sounds of harsh voices in a language, maybe more than one, that you don't recognize. As you open your eyes to the bright sunlight you see creatures that resemble animals, if they had been made humanoid. Birds of prey, canines, felines, and even repile faces stare down at you, accompanies by the points of spears and swords. There are also creatures far stranger than that, the faces of tigers and leopards are perched on humanoid torsos, which are themselves set atop the bodies of great cats. All of these strange creatures wear variations of what is obviously a uniform, deep blue with gold lining, and the silhouette of a tiger done in gold on the right breast.

Beyond them, limestone walls rise up on all four sides, the space between filled with tile paths and blooming plants. In the center of the large courtyard, a fountains bubbles, green marble accent and gold decorations glinting in the harsh sunlight. The water of the fountain only adds to the humidity hanging in the air, oppressive to those who are unused to it. The heat also adds to the heaviness of the air, though the beings around you don't seem to take any notice of it.

One of the cat-centaurs whose garb is more ornate holds up a hand, and the rest stop. It speaks, pauses, and says something in what could only be another language. It cycles through five distinct languages, then shakes its head and waves someone else over. It was another one of the same species, this time dressed in lighter blue with silver decorations, and no crest. It is a deep red with dark brown tiger stripes, and when it speaks, it is with a deep, yet pleasant, growl. You understand it, each in your native tongue.

"Can you understand me?"

The sound of a crows distinct caw rang in the ears of Eryaviel, muffling the sounds around her. From what she could gather, there were people around her shuffling their feet. Quite a few at that. Opening her eyes, she saw they were all... animals. Humanoid animals. Instinct kicked in immediately and she was crouched on her feet, a dagger in hand. They held spears and swords pointed at them, raising them more as Eryaviel got up. She watched as their bodies tensed, ready to attack her. She eyed them warily already thinking over ways to get out of this, best ways to attack, who she should go after first, etc. As she ran this over she looked over at her group and decided she should lay low. They were outnumbered, confused, faced with enemies they know nothing of, and in unknown territory.

Wait...

Eryaviel was suddenly on high alert as she looked around her, past the animal folk. Nothing looked familiar to her. What had once been a clearing used for camping was now a courtyard of a palace. "Erya..." Cinder sat in front of Erya, her voice a warning. Focusing back on the 'people' before her, Erya noticed a... well, what she could only describe as a cat-centaur, was approaching her. She stood, clenching her dagger but keeping it held by her side. The humanoid seemed to cycle through various languages, only getting more irritated as Erya responded to none. She couldn't understand what he was saying, hell, she'd never even heard such languages. This fact only set her off more. Unknown land, unknown enemies, unknown language. Things were really looking up for them. She watched as this centaur gave up and waved another over, backing away as it approached. She eyed the new centaur with suspicion, raising her dagger slightly. If they couldn't speak to each other, there was no point in sticking around to find out what they would do.

"Can you understand me?"

Slight relief hit Eryaviel, followed by surprise. This creature knew Sylvan. Sheathing her dagger, Erya took a step towards the cat-taur and offered a kind smile. "Yeah, I can. Who are you... people?" She paused only slightly during her sentence, unsure what to refer to them as. By now her group would already be awake and have somewhat of an understanding as to what is going on. She eyed them, seeming to communicate to them with her eyes to stay on their guard and be ready to attack if necessary. Turning back to the cat-taur, she forced herself to relax her muscles and remain orderly. "Sorry fer my rudeness. I'm Eryaviel." She added, speaking in her own tongue. Though her words were harsh simply due to her Calimi accent, her tone stayed gentle. That's what really mattered.

Kazaht Dukhal was with his newfound friends (and one... very special friend), not that they were exactly new anymore, but the sensation of warmth in his chest still took him by surprise, because their horses had been spooked by something (Kaz thought it was something magical, since Anukh his beautiful warhorse wouldn't have run otherwise, and Arumwon hadn't seemed to notice anything strange or different) and they were now in pursuit. Then, Arumwon cocked his head to the side with a woof, and Kazaht heard the sound of crows.

Now he was waking up, Sadiya on one side with Arumwon on the other, laying on stone in some sort of courtyard. Animal... people... Animal people surrounding them, speaking languages he didn't know. What were they saying? What were they going to do to them? Getting to his feet with all the subtlety of an avalanching boulder, he planted himself in front of the still down Sadi and withdrew his Longspear, holding it out in front of him in a defense motion. Arumwon stood with him, shaking out his fur and, upon seeing what Kaz was doing, immediately followed along. A low growl seeped out of their throats in unison as he exposed his tusks and Arumwon showed his teeth in aggression. What- He quieted down and shushed Arumwon, however, when one of the strange cat human centaur things stepped forward and spoke Common. Regular Common that he could understand.

Still, he said nothing, and merely waited.

Jun was the next on to awaken to the sight of several animal beings looking at him and his companions. Seeing that Amir was still out next to him, the gold elf put himself between the green elf and looked around. Eryaviel was being diplomatic, but the thief could see that she was still on guard. And Kazaht was being protective of Sadiya. Reaching behind him, the golden elf placed a hand on one of the daggers he kept placed on his lower back, but did not draw it. A part of him wished for the copper-haired male to wake up quickly and maybe he would have some sort of plan to get them out of there. But for now, it was only him, Erya, Kaz, and Kaz's pet Arumwon that were awake.

'Play it smart, Jun. There are a bunch of them and only a few of us.' He thought, eyes scanning around at the beings before them. He forced his body to relax a bit, but still was ready to attack if things when bad. 'Try to remember what happened before we got here. Ok… we were looking for a place to camp… and then… there was a giant bird. Sune, my head hurts.' Jun shook his head to make the feeling go away as he reached up with his free hand to run his fingers through his hair, loosening it from the hold of his hair tie. For now, the thief would play it smart and wait to see who made the first move.

Evan jolted up at the glints of light that reflected off the weapons surrounding him and his companions. Grabbing his expansive shield from his back, Evan's shoulders loosened slightly at the familiar weight of it. Taking in the forces surrounding them and the palatial environment, he realized that these beings were more than likely guards and that he and his companions were trespassing. Regardless, he hoped that it wouldn't come to violence. As competent as the party was, fighting their way out of the heart of hostile forces would not be easy in the slightest.

Hearing one of the beings speak Common, Evan released a breath. 'Good, there is no language barrier at the very least, now comes negotiating. The number of languages they can speak is astonishing, about five, judging from the speech patterns.' However, Eryaviel's quick response caused his brow to crease. 'Why is she speaking in Sylvan? It would be rude to use Sylvan if they're speaking Common, we don't even know if they know it. There's no reason for her to do that unless she thinks that they're also speaking Sylvan. What is going on?'

Evan quickly schooled his features before stepping forward to stand next Eryaviel. Giving a shallow bow, he introduced himself. "Greetings, I am Evan Fyrland, Paladin of Tyr, Knight of the Merciful Sword. I apologize for our, rude appearance, the circumstances are something I will admit to being unsure of. If we could have your name, we would very much prefer to sit with you and discuss the situation with you on more amenable terms." As he spoke, Evan looked closely at the one who seemed to know Common, if he could cause Eryaviel to simultaneously here their native language, then he probably had some form of magic active. He didn't know if he had other kinds of magic active, and until he did, it would be wise to be wary.
