Ever since Aaliyah had gone off to college, she had left behind her old life. She hadn't seen or spoken to her friends and families since she'd left, initially due to the fact that she was often extremely busy, but sooner or later she had began to avoid them for other reasons. Mainly a lack of effort. Partly a little anger. Her mother had disowned her when she caught her smoking marijuana one too many times, and her father had done the same after another altercation. They were only one phone call away - she knew their numbers, she knew how to worm her way back into their hearts, but she didn't want to. Now, she was alone.
The music blazed around her, bringing her back to life. She hadn't noticed that she'd spent the last few minutes in a daydream. Now wasn't the time for reminiscing about her family. One of her friends handed her a pill, which she took with little hesitation and placed into her mouth. Taking a swig from her bottle of beer, she downed the pill and then flashed a smile. Most of the other people at this concert were high too, and she saw no reason why she should be left out.
As the concert came to an end, she heard the audience begin calling for a final song. Everything was spinning around her now, but she was happy - happier than she'd been in a long time. She began screaming out for them to play another song, accidentally bumping into a brunette woman next to her.
"Sorry," she said loudly over the music, a smile on her face as she brushed her own hair out of the way of her face, her eyes meeting the woman's.
