Captain of the DHV Beowulf

Personality:

John Caine is an eccentric and outgoing people's person who revels in all aspects of the Dragon Hunter's life, practically living off the excitement of almost getting killed, and possessing a talent for composure in the face of danger. Even when faced with the loss of crew, an all too common occurence, he picks himself right back up. He likes to tell and hear stories, and partakes in a large amount of hunter superstition. Lasty, he has a tendency to recklessly endanger himself to aid crewmates.

History:

John Caine was born to a lower class family on the very outskirts of Doxa, as soon as he was able to, he applied for a job on the DHV Sigmund, where he worked as a cabin boy, and befriended a mysterious stowaway. When he showed promise, he would soon be promoted to being a full-fledged hunter, and was notable for courageous, if at times reckless, feats. It would be when a terrible beast, a black dragon with claws like sickles, tore the balloon of the ship and sent it plummeting to the ground, that John Caine would prove his skill. He and the stowaway were the only two survivors of the crash, and among the burning wreckage, they stood against the dragon who would come to be named "Daggerfoot." The fight ended when a wounded John stuck a grenade to the side of the beast's head, blasting it's horn off and driving it away, at the cost of a mauled left hand, which would later be amputated and replaced with a robotic one. Once they finally made it back, being the only surviving crew member, John was given the entire payment, which was originally going to be shared among forty men. With this, John was able to buy an old antique airship, restore it to working order, and set off on his own adventures, with the mysterious stowaway, who would come to be called "Enki", as his first mate. Since then, John has led eighty five successful hunts, taking us to the present day.

Skills:

He's a good Captain, marksman, and fighter, knows the ins and outs of dragon behavior and can think on his feet.

Luggage:
His Cabin is filled with personal items and trophies from previous hunts. He has a custom-made rifle that uses refined philosopher's stone to charge the gun, which then fires a powerful explosive round. It is bolt-action, can hold seven rounds, and has a large bayonet.

First Mate of the DHV Beowulf

Name: "Enki"

Beneath the hood, his face is wrapped in gauze with a single lens protruding outward.

Personality:
Enki is antisocial, analytical, and inquisitive. He's quite protective of the Captain.

History:
Little is known of Enki before he was the stowaway aboard the DHV Siggurd, but he has loyally hunted by John's side for John's entire career as a captain, and is responsible for saving John's life on more than one occasion.
Nobody know's why he wears gauze all over his body. The general consensus is either grotesque scarring or an insane obsession with anonymity.

Skills:
Enki is fast, strong, and a hell of a fighter.

Luggage:
Enki has a modern cutlass, a more archaic great-sword, a double barreled shotgun, and a grappling gun.

Motivation:
Preserve as many lives as possible, slay some dragons.

Anastasia can come off as peculiar, aloof, and a worrier, but she's notably kind and polite, and is very energetic in her work.
History:
Began as a nurse to Dr. Chapman aboard the DHV Beowulf, mostly working for pay but soon grew to love the job. It was with the death of Dr. Chapman at the claws of none other than Daggerfoot that Anastasia set off to become a doctor herself. It was this year that she completed her schooling, and decided to rejoin the Beowulf.

History:
Berach joined multiple tours with the Doxan Navy until he sustained a serious gunshot wound patrolling Sunsteppe, following that, he was unable to rejoin, and filled the gap with Dragon Hunting alongside John Caine, where his military training proved useful.
Skills:
His experience allowed him quite an understanding of the workings of modern weaponry and ship maintenance, and he is a trained fighter at range and melee.
Luggage:
He carries a Standard Naval Cutlass and an automatic rifle, as well as whatever knives or bombs he takes with him.

Age: 26
Personality: The skin of aristocracy is not one easily shed. While Natasha is far away from the conjecture of 'court' life, she has been raised as a proper lady since birth. This manifests itself in more ways than one. From her posture to her speech, she operates with grace and fluidity. No movement is without purpose and you'll rarely hear a single vulgarity uttered from her. She is a diligent individual who adheres to a mentality of honor and justice. She will never back down from a challenge, no matter how great, unless the lives of others are at risk. No matter how courageous or prideful she may be, she is not one to risk the lives of innocents to feed her own ego.
History: Born in Doxa to a noble family, Natasha's life was somewhat set in stone. From an early age she was acclimated to court life, learning the ins and outs of nobility. By the age of 15 she had already been set to wed the son of another family of notable reputation, which would thus increase the social standing of her family. And while the young Lady Relius knew this would be crucial for her family, she had dreams of her own. Dreams that did not consist of marrying someone she did not know nor love. So she planned and schemed, patiently and subtly. She had dreams of her own - to be like the dashing rogues she read about in novels.

And she would attain her dreams. At the age of 16, after she was married, she confused a measured dose of poison. It was risky but it was something she was willing to attempt. After all, the grandest things in life require sacrifice, do they not? She was presumed dead, her pulse so low it was neigh-undetectable. The doctors left her body unattended long enough for one of Natasha's most trusted servants to slip in and administer the antidote before whisking them both away to freedom.

The servant was a young-slave girl who Natasha had promised to give freedom to if she assisted her in her venture. And when Natasha awoke, she kept true to her word. She split the riches she had been saving with the girl evenly before parting ways, leaving her old life behind. Natasha Relius was dead. She spent the next 10 years traveling the land, struggling to survive. It was an arduous affair, but one she welcomed. She spent money to learn from some of the most skilled, and unsavory, people she ever had the pleasure of coming across. Her lifestyle could have easily been described as hedonistic, a far cry from the court life as she robbed, fought and bedded whoever she liked.

But eventually, the life of a rogue grew old and she sought a new excitement. And that excitement was in the form of John William Caine. Or rather, his ship and profession. He was certainly a respectable man, one she did indeed admire, but her desire was more focused on the slaying of dragons and traversing the land via airship. And so she joined Captain Caine aboard the Beowulf, exciting to see what new adventures this would bring her.
Skills: Natasha has a variety of skills. Skilled with both blade and firearm, she is a deceivingly dangerous woman. In addition to this, she is incredible agile and dexterous, being light on her feet from her time as a thief. She also has quite a silver-tongue, being able to talk herself into or out of any situation.
Luggage: Natasha utilizes what's, for the most part, standard fair in the world of Dragon Hunting. She has two blades of foreign origin, the metal blacker than coal. They are in the shape of twin, straight shortswords that are strapped to her lower back diagonally. Her right arm sports a gauntlet-like contraption that acts as a grappling hook. She has two pistols hidden on the inside of her coat, as well as an assortment of lures and traps such as smoke grenades.
Motivation: To do as she pleases and live life on her own accord.
Other: Can be quite flirtatious and will probably hit on anyone that catches her eye, regardless of gender.[/fieldbox]
 
Name: Devon Waite
Age: 19

Appearance: A fairly unassuming, skinny young pale man made of tense muscle, sinew, and bone, whose eyes are constantly adorned with bags. His head is constantly shaved as well as his beard, and tattoos of dragons cover his body everywhere except for the face. The man stands a mere 5'6" tall, a height that is quite good for a pilot, but not so much for intimidating people. Devon's eyes are a dull grey, much of their luster lost from years of abusing Rush.

Personality: A party animal with an adrenaline junkie streak through and through, Devon's personality is built around the constant adrenaline rush that Rush gives him. He is a fast-talking, wise-cracking piece of shit who loves nothing more than being in the sky pulling multiple G's around dragons and coming within inches of death. Unfortunately, whenever he starts to come down or goes without Rush for any substantial length of time, he becomes an incredibly irritable man who clusters himself away or else gets into fights with other members of the crew, partly for fun and partly as a stress relief.

History: Raised in the slums of Dova and becoming involved early with gangs and drug dealing, Devon spent much of his early childhood beating other kids senseless and performing as the getaway driver for various robberies once he was tall enough. But years spent marauding came back to haunt him when the police finally caught the young man. Surprised to learn that someone so young was so capable of handling a vehicle, they decided to sentence him to a lifetime of service as a Dragon Hunter and probable early death. The Beowulf was offered the young man, and recognizing Devon's penchant for vehicles, Captain Caine decided to give him a shot at flying.

For the first time, Devon finally felt free when he was soaring above the clouds, quickly becoming one of the most successful pilots Caine had ever seen. Possibly due in large part to the use of Rush, a drug which spikes levels of adrenaline in the blood, increases heart rate, and elevates the senses. As a result of it, Devon can perform manuevers that are nearly inhuman and would knock most other pilots out.

Skills: The maniacal pilot, Devon is nearly unchallenged in the skies besides of course by dragons. Besides that, he's been in more than a few fistfights and knows his way around a pistol, although he's no marksman nor martial artist. His place is, and always will be, soaring through the sky, high as a kite.

Luggage: The only semi-notable piece of gear Devon uses is a fairly simple pistol.

Motivation: Money, excitement, fun, fame, success, women, all the typical hallmarks of a young man trying to become something from nothing.

Name: The only thing you can get out of the man is a grunt and something that sounds like "Buras", so that's what everyone calls him.

28

Appearance: Standing at an impressive 6'4", Buras is a mountain made flesh. Braided red hair in the style of the tribes of the north goes down to just between his shoulder blades, the sides of his head completely shaven, and a full red beard make up the major features of his face. Blue traditional tattoos that intricately knot up and down his body. In the middle of his back is a brand shaped like a horned beast, like a dragon but not. It is not known what this mark means, but it can be assumed that it means that he is no longer welcomed in the Far North.

Personality: Buras is a stubborn and/or determined man, depending on how you want to look at it. When he says he'll do something, he will try his hardest to do that thing. If he gives his support to someone, they will hard pressed to get rid of him. He is a man of few words, and what he does say is sharp and to the point, though sometimes said in his native tongue. For the most part, he communicates in grunts, gestures, and body language.

In combat, however, he is a raving mad man. He has been known to jump off cliffs and onto a downed dragon, shouting his rage all the while. He describes this simply as the "Red Rage" and a want for dying in glorious combat. Though he has done some ridiculous things, he has yet to actually jump off the Beowulf in pursuit of a dragon, however he has climbed the railing a couple times before being talked down.

History: Buras was born into a Far North tribe, farther than many would dare go in a hunting ship. In lands still teeming with dragons that are worshiped as gods, where the locals and pirates are just as likely to attack the ships as much as dragons. Here he was raised, among the warring tribes, fighting for the bare necessities. Not only for their meager existence, but also to appease their draconic god. Mol'og Ba'al was their patron dragon, the name roughly translating into "The Obsidian Lord". Their god was a malicious one, more like a vulture then an actual dragon. It could sense weakness, and if it thought it could take something, it would take it. It was not satisfied with sacrifice, if anything it only goaded it into bigger atrocities.


When he came of age, he was handed his axes and told to fight. He fought in raids against other tribes, to take what they had. He fought in defense of his tribe and of what they had. And most importantly, he fought in the name of Mol'og Ba'al. As his warrior prowess grew, so did his pride and boasting. Soon he caught the attention of an old huscarl who had survived many battles. He saw Buras' boasting, and was insulted. How dare this young whelp think they was greater than he. Though he was curious, what did fate hold for this young warrior? So, calling him over, he told Buras if he wanted to see what his future. And with a booming yes, he bones were cast.

The scarred huscarl burst out in laughter. The bones had spoken, and they said that Buras would pass away peacefully in his sleep, no death a true warrior ever wants. Furious with what he was presented with, he knocks the huscarl out and vanishes from camp. He did not return that night, nor the next. On the morning of the third day, he did return, covered in blood that was both his and wasn't his, dragging the horned head of Mol'og Ba'al behind him.

"This is no god!" He roared, pushing the head and letting it roll into camp. "Gods do not die, they kill!" It was at that point that he was unanimously declared a heretic by the tribe, mobbed, forcefully held down and branded with the mark of banishment before forcefully being removed. He was now alone in the frozen north. Slowly he made his way further and further south, and soon he was picked up by a hunter crew. From then on he became a hunter, and eventually found his way onto the Beowulf.

Skills:
His mastery of the axe is far above almost anyone else. With deft, almost instinctual, strikes he can lop off limbs and create gaping wounds. And his strength is great, though not surpassing Enki's, much to his chagrin.

Luggage:
His three axes are all that remain of his past. Two one handed axes, that are still fairly large, hang at his waist while one massive two handed axe hang on his back. His original clothing had been burnt away due to many encounters with dragons, though the traditional style has remained present with the subsequent replacements.

Motivation:
Namely to prove that huscarl and the bones wrong. The best way to do that, is to fight the most dangerous thing on the planet, dragons.

Silas Corby
Age: 22
Appearance: Silas is not very imposing- in fact, he is quite the opposite. Standing at just 5 feet, 2 inches in height and weighing in at just under 120 pounds, he is about as scary as a puppy. Still, his small, spry form is ideal for weaving about a ship's engine room. The proof of this work is evident in the numerous scars that speckle his warm, tan skin- burns, cuts and scrapes from metal and steam. His bright green eyes hold a shine of a keen mind, and are capable of paying attention to the smallest of details. His hair, often tied back for convenience and safety, is ebony brown in color, and falls to his shoulderblades in slight waves. His most distinguishing feature is his tattoos; they grace his shoulders, wrists and hands, and are a mark of his heritage in the west.

His clothing is practical for his job- durable cotton or wool pants, light cotton shirts, and tough leather boots and gloves make up his typical wardrobe. He wears no jewelry, in fear of it getting caught in turning gears. He often wears a colorful bandana around his bicep or neck, pretty much just because he can.

Personality:
Silas has a sharp mind and an intuitive knowledge of how things work. He is naturally curious when it comes to machinery, and never passes up a chance enhance the efficiency of the many moving parts in a ship. He can get rather excitable when it comes to mechanics and will babble to anyone about his latest adjustments and fine-tuning of the Beowulf's engine. When it comes to hunting, he is headstrong and willing. When a dragon is spotted, he gets antsy, just waiting to put his bizarre weapon into use

Many brush him off because of his excitable, curious nature, but he is just as determined as any seasoned dragon hunter. He takes great pride in his work, and does anything necessary to keep the Beowulf's engine running smoothly.

PERSONALITY
A quiet and reserved soul, almost bordering on taciturn, Tenzing prefers the company of a bottle of wine and a tobacco pipe over people and were it not for basic human needs forcing him down from the crow's nest, many would question his existence altogether. His anti-social nature comes not from any cynicism or hatred of his fellow man, but rather from an exhaustion of life brought from the guilt he has endured from seeing so many of his loved ones die and their dreams perish. He performs his duties as a look-out and crew member without fail, but does not wish to burden himself with the pain of losing any one else close to him, so he does not seek to endear himself to others.

HISTORY

Born in a small town near the city of Sunsteppe, Tenzing lived an uneventful and peaceful life for the most part, although he and his childhood friend, Garasu, had long been ensnared by the grip of wanderlust. When they became old enough, they left as quickly as they could and made their way to the city where they would eventually be taken aboard a dragon hunting vessel named the DHV Khulan. Garasu's talents as a mechanical engineer was quickly noted, leaving Tenzing to slowly prove himself with gun and blade, but no matter the pace, they would ultimately become valued members of the crew.
Years passed and the two friends grew, started their own families inbetween flights, and sure enough, would bring their own sons aboard. Unfortunately, the DHV Khulan came upon misfortunate during a hunt when they were ambushed by two dragons after felling their intended prey. They fended off both assailants, but suffered heavy causulites including both sons. After that flight, Garasu left the ship in despair and never returned while Tenzing remained to provide for his wife and widowed daughter-in-law. This would prove to be short-lived, as he experienced several more brutal conflicts and watched more and more of his crewmates and friends fall. Unable to bear it any longer, he too abandoned the skies.
His tale might have ended there, but it was only a few years later that he received a letter from his old friend, asking him to meet him in the city in Indus. With his wife's passing and his daughter-in-law finding another husband, Tenzing saw no reason not to and headed north. Instead of Garasu, he was greeted by his friend's wife, who informed him of his suicide and handed him a note. Unable to cope with his the loss of his son, Garasu had spent all those years developing what he deemed "the ultimate weapon of the dragon slayer", and his final wishes were for his friend to find a worthy wielder of this weapon. Tenzing once more set his sights to the skies, hoping to find closure in this last task.

SKILLS

As a seasoned dragon hunter, Tenzing is well-versed with the tasks of a crewman, although his age and lack of recent leaves him less spry than he used to. His skills with a blade have grown rusty, but his eyesight and skill with a rifle have remained as sharp as able, making him an ideal look-out and sharpshooter.

LUGGAGE

Tenzing has little in the way of possessions; the clothes on his back, the old blade at his hip, a few bits of currency, and, of course, plenty of alcohol and tobacco. Then there are the more noticeable things, with the first being the old-fashioned bolt-action rifle he carries. Enhanced with a refined white philosopher's stone, his shots are unaffected by weight or wind, allowing him to make accurate shots in impossible settings as well as directing any proceeding shots towards the intended target with the first bullet acting a gravitational point once embedded. The second is the novelty mechanical bird gifted to him and last is the mysterious trunk that houses Garasu's dragon slaying weapon. Having never opened it, even he does not know what form the weapon takes.

MOTIVATION

Currently, he seeks only to find someone worthy of Garasu's weapon to honor his friend and perhaps change the course of dragon hunting for the better.

HESTIA 'HES' ROSENGOLD

APPEARANCE
Hes is tall, six-foot, and covered in muscle. That being said, she isn't entirely without curves, she is a bit more pear-shaped than she wants. She has wide hips, thick thighs, and a noticeable backside. Her skin is tan, etched with scars of previous encounters. Freckles adorn her nose, tops of her shoulders, chest, and other places that clothes often cover. Her piercing grey-green eyes follow everything like a hawk. Her face is cute, though made less so by her strong jaw, broken nose, and the usual sarcastic scowl across full lips. She wears her dark brown hair in tight braids, usually fancying a masculine fashion. She doesn't apply cosmetics, and it shows on the days that she's hung over.

PERSONALITY
Hes is rude, lewd, and very into saying whatever crosses her mind, whenever it crosses her mind. She hasn't made a lot of friends this way, and for the most part, she's only made enemies. She's the first in a fight, and the last to leave it. She is painfully loyal to those that decide to befriend her--especially her brother. But that may not be the best choice. Honestly, it's on them. She's always angry about something, and it's hard to tell if it's personal or not. Yet, her honesty in situations can be invaluable. If it doesn't piss you off something awful.

HISTORY
Hestia and her twin brother Lukas grew up in Apollo's Rest. They were always treated to fanciful tales of dragon hunting and the riches one could get from it. Yet, their father was the head of the guard, and their mother was a practical seamstress. Their fate was decided before they could crawl out of the crib. While Hes's mother wished that her daughter would take after her, she was fine when her daughter followed Lukas and her father into guard training. They both grew up underneath a militaristic thumb. Neither of the twins seemed to fall totally into that fold. They both had their wild personalities, but they learned well and they learned quickly. Within the guard, they became known as a dynamic duo.

Much later in life would they look elsewhere. As their mother became less and less apt at sewing, and their father drew closer and closer to retirement, they knew that they had to branch out. They started meshing their guard training with dragon slaying. Apollo's Rest was the best place for it. So, they found a retired dragon hunter by the name of Liam Greyson, and they trained underneath him.

During a mix of both guard training and dragon hunting, the twins were stationed on a small DHV called Cherub. It was meant to patrol Apollo's Rest and not much more. It ran into a small, but fearsome dragon one morning. Many of the crew were unprepared, and some of them died, but the Rosengold siblings managed to take down the small dragon. The compensation they received made them realize what they could do on a larger vessel. Hes used her money to purchase equipment to properly slay a dragon and avoid the critical damage they'd received upon the ship.

After their father retired, they broke away from tradition and decided to become dragon hunters. Their parents were quite against it at first, but they realized that they couldn't dissuade their progeny. More so, Lukas and Hes promised them a life of grandeur beyond what their feeble means would get them.

So, they set out for the strongest of DHV, the Beowulf.

SKILLS
Hestia is talented in the spear and longsword. While she's not a mountain of muscle, she is strong.She wears armor that she's crafted in years with dealing with dragons. It's heavy, which dismisses much of her dexterity. Still, she has both melee weapons and a gun on her--a gun that she isn't the best at using, but is still accurate.

LUGGAGE
Her suit of armor, spear, longsword, and gun. Beyond that, she has kits to take care of each and a flask.

MOTIVATION
To provide a better life for her, her brother, and her parents. They live decently, but given how much they sacrificed for her and Lukas, she wants them to live well.

OTHER
No matter how much she acts like a shit to her brother, she does love him and will stand up for him always.
Is more likely to be drunk than sober.
Also more likely to be angry than non-temperamental.
Loves her weapons.
Loves her flask more.
But ultimately loves cooking, and a man than loves her own cooking.

LUKAS ROSENGOLD

APPEARANCE
It would seem that height and finely tanned skin ran in the Rosengold blood. Lukas is a spitting image of his father and quite the sight standing alongside his twin sister (who he's only three inches taller than). He admittedly spends too much time in the morning styling his hair, but Lukas is a hirsute man in general. His shoulders are broad and his arms are muscled. He has the overall body of a practiced military man, but a love for spirits has given his tummy a little roundness that he has given up trying to lose. The former guardsmen also has an eye for fashion and dresses stylishly without apology, making use of accessories like piercings and such regularly.

PERSONALITY
Lukas is an amorous socialite who rarely refrains from striking up a conversation. Unlike his twin sister, the former guardsman approaches socialization with tact and a natural charm. He enjoys repartee in all its form and is just as likely to flirt with a shop owner as he is to barter with him. He isn't particularly confrontational but Lukas does his best to be an ambassador to Hes. With that said, Lukas is quick as all hell to jump to his sister's defense, or even to the defense of someone he considers a trusted friend. He was taught from a young age the value of loyalty and family and those values remain a heavy part of his character till this day.

HISTORY
Lukas and his twin sister Hestia grew up in Apollo's Rest. They were always treated to fanciful tales of dragon hunting and the riches one could get from it. Yet, their father was the head of the guard, and their mother was a practical seamstress. Their fate was decided before they could crawl out of the crib. Lukas took after his father physically but always seemed more preoccupied with keeping his bed warm than keeping the city safe. They both grew up underneath a militaristic thumb. Neither of the twins seemed to fall totally into that fold. They both had their wild personalities, but they learned well and they learned quickly. Within the guard, they became known as a dynamic duo.

Much later in life would they look elsewhere. As their mother became less and less apt at sewing, and their father drew closer and closer to retirement, they knew that they had to branch out. They started meshing their guard training with dragon slaying. Apollo's Rest was the best place for it. So, they found a retired dragon hunter by the name of Liam Greyson, and they trained underneath him.

During a mix of both guard training and dragon hunting, the twins were stationed on a small DHV called Cherub. It was meant to patrol Apollo's Rest and not much more. It ran into a small, but fearsome dragon one morning. Many of the crew were unprepared, and some of them died, but the Rosengold siblings managed to take down the small dragon. The compensation they received made them realize what they could do on a larger vessel. Lukas spent a good portion of his gold sharing rounds at local taverns but was later convinced by Hes into upgrading his equipment.

After their father retired, they broke away from tradition and decided to become dragon hunters. Their parents were quite against it at first, but they realized that they couldn't dissuade their progeny. More so, Lukas and Hes promised them a life of grandeur beyond what their feeble means would get them.

So, they set out for the strongest of DHV, the Beowulf.

SKILLS
Beyond his knack for conversation, Lukas is a proficient marksmen and fighter. He prefers to be up close and to barrel a little with his opponents, whether it's a gun fight or a fist fight, and uses that Rosengold physique to his best ability. He is decently practiced with a sword but its far from the first thing he reaches for.

LUGGAGE
Lukas carries a shotgun named Lucy and all the necessary equipment to maintain her. He also has a decent sized travelling case mainly filled with coats and such.

MOTIVATION
To provide a better retirement for his parents and to secure a prosperous future for his twin sister.
