SITE UPDATES DELETION WARNING! THE GREAT CONVERSATION ATTACHMENT PURGE!

ON MARCH 31ST 2024 I AM GOING TO PURGE ALL IMAGE ATTACHMENTS FROM CONVERSATIONS THAT ARE OLDER THAN JAN 1ST 2020.​

Why? FAST AND DIRTY VERSION:

- Attachments don't delete off the server when accounts get deleted. To top it off, Xenforo is stupid as hell and I can't just prune attachments by deleted accounts. So there is a shit ton of images on the server that belong to no one going all the way back to 2013. It is eating my resources.

- I know damn well some of y'all upload porn in private conversations. We're never going to invade your privacy - but I have to have ways to get your stupid porn off my server. >:[ Unless you want me to start moderating all private image uploads or turning off attachments in PCs, this is the best option. STOP UPLOADING PORN. Use links or share on discord.

- I have chosen attachments older than Jan 1st 2020 cause... c'mon. That's 4 years ago. You're not using those images, and you shouldn't be using Iwaku to hoard stuff in your PCs.

- There's 55,423 attachments older than Jan 1st 2020. D:< why am I paying for this

GO TO YOUR YOUR ATTACHMENTS TO SAVE ANY IMAGE CONTENT THAT IS FROM 2019 AND OLDER IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT.


Again this pruning will ONLY AFFECT ATTACHMENTS IN PRIVATE CONVOS. IT WILL NOT DELETE ANY OF YOUR ACTUAL CONVERSATIONS OR DELETE FROM FORUM THREADS. That means all your private convo rps are perfectly safe. All of your images in ancient public threads are currently safe.

You're getting a whole two months of a heads up warning, so I don't wanna hear any crying if you lose some ancient images!

Mmm....my question would be why not more recent attachments? Isn't 4 years ago giving too much of a buffer? I know some rps go really really long, but surely most people are not still in a RP started more than a year ago unless its a big group rp or such? Though I guess part of that will come down to if they post once or many times a day vs only once a week or two with how long the rp is continuing.

@Maximus_Shadow I have definitely two RPs that are nearly seven and eight years old. Sometimes we post, sometimes it slow. I also can say there are a few RPs that go on for a bit.

Since this is the first time I've ever done an attachment purge, I wanted to keep a safe buffer! So if this runs well and I don't make any oopsies, I'll likely start doing this a lil more often once I do some research and get a good reasonable timeline.

I've had a roleplay go on for years and I still like to look back and reread parts of roleplays I really enjoy.
