In the centre of the boulder field, Ayumi swung her morningstar at the horseman who was struggling to control his mount. But such was the whirling of the steed that she couldn't get close enough and her strike fell short. The cleric reeled back, bringing up her shield to block the counterattack, but the horseman slashed around it and cut her forearm open, a long slice from shoulder to wrist that sent blood spraying [8 damage to Ayumi].
In the centre of the convoy, Sales's mist continued to cause chaos. The two riders caught in the smog spurred their steeds towards the light, one of them coming out to the south near through the boulder field, while the other almost collided with Kryx.
Meanwhile, the soldiers on the fourth wagon lost all discipline. Some retreated to the end wagon, getting clear of the mist, while another two continued hunting for Sales. In the end it was the driver of the wagon who found the Elf. Leaping from the coachman's seat, the man made a clumsy stab with his dagger, but stumbled on the writhing body of the other soldier Sales had felled.
The front of the convoy was more organised, probably through the efforts of ranking officers. The two footmen by the second wagon charged Darius, timing their attack with the driver of the third wagon, who lunged down at the Paladin. But Darius was ready for it. Stepping back, he intercepted the leaping man and flung him into the first of the charging footman, immobilising the two. But with the effort he had left his other side open. The second footman drove his sword into Darius's waist, piercing flesh and armour. [4 damage to Darius]
On the second wagon, the two crossbowmen opened fire on Angus, trying to pin down the sniping ranger. One bolt hit the rocks but another found him as he rose to take down the cavalry. The bolt skimmed his face and split open the cheek as it sailed past [1 damage to Angus].
And on the lead wagon, the remaining crossbowmen were distracted by Karwik, who was sniping from the woods. They switched fire and tried to pick him out in the woods, but their bolts flew in vain through the trees.
Finally, on the ridge, Xenoxis braced himself to receive the horseman's charge. The last cavalryman came in swift and furious, kicking up stones as the horse galloped faster and faster. He had no time to notch an arrow, nor anywhere to run to, so he swung the bow in a desperate attempt to parry. But it was no use. The rider sailed past and slashed open Xenoxis's back, bringing him to his knees.
