Thor. Loki. Frigg.
Odin.
All Gods. All beings superior. And most importantly, the creators and puppeteers of their creations. Sometimes they are described as kind and merciful, but the majority of their followers and non-followers know them as cruel and violent beings to be feared. And none of that has changed for the current day Midgard.
In many worlds, old and new, the gods have been forgotten. Referred to nothing as legends, tales, and myths from ancestors. They were not known to be real. In this world, they are real, always have been, and never forgotten by the people of Midgard. They are still worshipped and prevalent. They make sure to remind the mortals of that every day.
They no longer live in a separate realm. They haven't lived in Asgard for years now. The Gods live not amongst the humans in disguises and hiding, they live above them as their open rulers -- and to many, their oppressors. After all, with Gods comes their chaos and horror, fights with each other just as much as their order and mercy, emotions that are closely resembling humans than they'd ever admitted. This includes curses, demigods, acts of violence, etc.
And the mortals are always caught in between. Always at the mercy of these higher beings. Or so, they believe.
The story revolves around 4-6 characters. All who are involved with a God one way or another, good or bad, but the ties are there. Their goals may vary, but their stories all eventually connect as they embark on whatever journey it is to reach their goal. Whether that is to be set free by a God, lift a curse placed on them, maybe even to become a very God themselves, or living a regular life.
Whatever they want can be something very small or very big. Their paths to get to it, however, may never be easy. Some may make it their very job to make it difficult.
The year is 2021 A.Y. (After Ymir).
The world is a modern one just as ours, though, with some older touches and fashions from older time periods. Because of the Gods' deep and withstanding involvement with the mortal realm, human progression is both very slow and advanced. This is both with the fashions, cultures, and technology. However, one thing that has not changed is the worshipping and shrines built in honor of the Gods.
The story takes place in New York City. The area is the home of many gods but ruled over by none other than the God of Mischief, Loki. Which makes it both glamorous and dangerous.
GODS:
The Gods live on Midgard as well as rule it. Each of them was given lands to own by the king of them all, Odin. And on their lands, they may rule it as they please, make whatever rules they want as long as they follow Odin's otherwise supreme rule.
To humans, the Gods are viewed as more than just that. They're like celebrities, stars, dazzling and powerful beings. Ones you don't want to piss off but would like to get in the good graces of. While these gods may leave the realm as they please, the humans may not.
Every morning and every night, all mortals must say their prayers.
SPECIES:
- Humans: The mortals are the majority that populates Midgard. Yet, among them, there are few that are special. They are called seers, oracles, sorcerers..
- Elves: The elves are few and far in between on Midgard. Some migrated to the realm when the Gods did and have since lived with humans as well as some marrying and having children with them or Gods.
- Demigods: Demigods are not as rare as thought as. The Gods have sex. A lot. And with that come their offspring. What is rare is when these children of theirs inherit their parents' abilities and a title to boot.
