FORESTS are locations that have TREES as their dominant plant type. They cover a vast expanse of space and can hold many different types of habitats. Fantasy, Modern, or Alien, you're going to have forests in your worlds.

In this exercise you will create a FOREST for your locations.

SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:

  • What lives in the canopy? The understory? The forest floor?
  • Is your forest Tropical, mid-latitude, coniferous, temperate, or chaparral?
  • What is the dominant type of tree in your forest? The dominant plants?
  • What are other kinds of trees and plants that appear in this forest?
  • What sort of animals make their home in this forest?
  • Do people or visit this forest?
  • Has this forest changed any over the years?
  • What is the climate like here in this location?
  • What kind of threats could be lurking in this forest?

Don't forget to list extra details you might have about this location. Like History!

  • What lives in the canopy? The understory? The forest floor?
Canopy
-Wheat Toucans, Sourdough Songbirds

Understory
-Meat Monkeys, Lettuce Lemurs, Cheese Chimpanzees
Frittata Flamingoes

Forest Floor
-Bread Bugs, Bagel Beetles, Thyme Tigers,
  • What is the climate like here in this location?
The Forest is actually put under cool conditions, Around 40 degrees fahrenheit, but at times it will be taken out of that climate into a quick shift into environments such as 70 degrees fahrenheit, during this time the forest will go under extreme deterioration, chunks will disintegrate piece by piece until barely any vegetation left, most of them being Potato Chip Tree sprouts. The forest will then go under extreme rain that washes off all remaining. The forest is then fully dried into nothing, but usually in a few hours to days, the forest will regrow, Forest floor, understory, and canopy being regrown in nearly minutes.

  • What is the dominant type of tree in your forest? The dominant plants?
Olive Oaks are most dominant, There are Anpan Ashes evident there. Plants such as Tea Tulips also exist somewhere near the forest and Fudge ferns can also present around evenings
  • What are other kinds of trees and plants that appear in this forest?
Sometimes the Canopy and Forest floor will have nearly all identical species, or species that share a similar trait and color until they get regrown, for example an all-wheat forest floor and canopy, with Wheat Warblers, and Wheat Willows
  • What sort of animals make their home in this forest?
Listed above.
  • Do people or visit this forest?
Yes, usually followed by a dissipation and regrowth.
  • Has this forest changed any over the years?
As described in the second bullet, it does on random occasions, sometimes three times a day.

  • What kind of threats could be lurking in this forest?
Hungry Predators, Lumberjacks, Microwaves

What lives in the canopy? The understory? The forest floor:
~In the canopy there are two types of creatures. One is haven birds which are pale colored four winged birds that only use two wings at a time so they can fly constantly, resting one set of wings while the other works. The other creature is the feathered snake,it is about the length of a bed but it is very light and can flatten itself out, letting it glide from tree to tree. It is a dark blue like the leaves of the trees and it feeds on the haven bird. It's entire body is also covered in feathers, giving it it's name.

~The understory is the most populated part of the forest. There are five different main species living there.
There is the silver leopard lizard which is a cat sized silver lizard with red spots. It leaps from tree to tree at impressive speed and it has sharp teeth though it only eats fruits and bugs.
There is the green tuft monkey which is a dark green monkey covered in tufts of pale green fur and it mainly eats the feathered snakes and silver leopard lizards. They are the size of a large dog.
There are midnight tunnel birds that live in the biggest of the branch tunnels and come out at midnight and soar through the trees, snatching up any monkeys or lizards with their talons. These birds are the size that bears were before the apocalypse.
Then there are the bark birds. They are mouse sized pale blue birds with strong feet that can attach to the smooth bark of the trees. They cling on to the tree trunks and flatten themselves to it to blend in. These small birds feed on the nutrition rich leaves of the song trees.
Lastly there are the jumping rats. They have strong back legs and long front claws so they can jump through the branches and cling on to ones they land on. They are long and thin like a weasel and their long naked tails can hold them up like an opossum. They wait until the parents leave the nest then they steal bird eggs for food.

~Only one thing lives on the forest floor.
A giant rat the size of a building that eats anything that falls out of the trees and drives away anything big enough to pose a threat to the town on the edge of the forest. This giant rat is a protector animal, like the Great Owl in the north east, the Screeching Nightwatchman in the west, and the Ursa Major in the north.

Is your forest Tropical, mid-latitude, coniferous, temperate, or chaparral:
This forest is at the equator, straight on it actually.

What is the dominant type of tree in your forest?
The dominant plants: The dominant tree here is the giant song tree. The song trees are trees about as big around as four dinner tables and about as tall as a big city office building. They are called song trees because their branches are filled with tunnels in the wood and when the wind blows through the trees the different size and length tunnels in all the branches of all the trees make music echo through the forest. The tree wood is a beautiful pale blue and the leaves are a darker shade. Near the end of summer when the weather starts getting more harsh and the leaves begin to fall is when the fruits that are known as the Song Stopper Fruits reach their full size, which depends on what size branch tunnel they grow in. They start growing at the end of winter inside the branch tunnels and by the end of summer they plug the tunnels they grew in, causing the branches to secrete sap. This makes the tunnels slippery and when the first strong winds of fall come all the fruits throughout the forest are launched from their tunnels where they then fall to the forest floor below. However, the slippery tunnels make the songs of that one day the most beautiful of the year before the sap dries that night.

What are other kinds of trees and plants that appear in this forest:
Spread out on the forest floor are small and thin trees that are only about fifteen feet tall and they are a reddish color. The giant rat feeds on them in the winter when most of the animals above stay in the tree tunnels.

What sort of animals make their home in this forest:Listed above

Do people visit this forest:No,all over the world the people stay out of the territory of the giant animals since even though these beasts act as protectors they will still eat any people they come across.

Has this forest changed any over the years:No,not in any big ways. It didn't grow until after the apocalypse and nothing big has happened since then to cause any alterations.

What is the climate like here in this location:It is constantly pretty humid and hot since it is on the equator.

What kind of threats could be lurking in this forest:
Only the animals that live there, none of the plants there are dangerous and nothing living ever comes into the forest except the things that live there for an extended period of time.
