Cold Inside

Cole couldn't believe it... it had been a week already... a week since his cute little 9 year old sister was brutally murdered... who would ever want to harm an innocent little girl? She was so full of life and happiness... It just didn't make any sense. Cole let out a sigh as he looked in his sisters room... no one has bothered getting rid of her stuff. They just weren't ready yet to let go. Too soon. He entered the room and noticed a picture of him and his sister Emma. They had the same stunning crystal blue eyes, however while Cole's hair was jet black and emo-like, her hair was long and strawberry blonde... It angered Cole knowing the bastard that did this to her was still out the. He let out a sigh, putting the photo down and walked out of the room. Cole was the one that found her lifeless body on the snowy ground. He cannot get the image out of his head. Her lifeless eyes staring blankly at him, she was practically gutted, and smile carved on her face. Cole still remembers seeing her intestines that laid outside her body, still connected to her stomach, not too mentione her guts were everywhere as well. The blood staining both her ripped clothes and the snow. He tried to shake the thought out of his head as he put on his jacket, grabs his truck keys and heads out the door. Now time to go to his college classes. Who knows, maybe that might clear his mind. He starts the red truck and drove off, luckily it was only a 5 minute drive so he made it in no time. He hopped out of his truck once he got there, stuffed his hands in his pockets and headed inside.

Briney pulled on her jacket and her backpack before locking her puppy in his pen. She was training him still, but unfortunately he still felt the need to tear pillows to shreds when she wasn't home. She slid a treat through the bars and he ate it excitedly, almost forgetting that he was going to be stuck in a cage for the next few hours. She headed out the door, carefully locking it behind her. She had a bike, but no car so she hopped on her bike and headed to class. It was only a few miles to class, but she was usually running late so a casual stroll to class wasn't on her list of possibilities. She was a freshman in college this year and with her homework, work, and general reluctance to go out to bars and parties, she hadn't met many people. She wanted to change that though, so as she parked her bike outside one of the buildings on campus, she decided to strike up a conversation with someone in her next class.

As soon as Cole sat down he noticed Briney coming in and smiled a little. He has known her since 9th grade, they were pretty close friends and secretly he has had a crush on her for quite some time now. He knew she probably didn't expect to see him there, since he missed a lot of school since his sister's death... She was the only person that has even made him smile after the incident. He looked at her with his crystal blue eyes, "Hey what am I chop liver?" He said with a light chuckle.

She hadn't noticed him at first, and so when she spoke to her it took a moment for her to shift her attention. Her eyes focused on him and she smiled brightly. "Oh, hey!" she said laughing and quickly sat down in the seat next to him. They hadn't really spoken much since his sister died. She had been there to support him, but she knew that he really just needed some time to himself. She couldn't hide her excitement to see him though and so her smile didn't fade.
