POWER
Aside from the usual suite of Merfolk abilities, Daniel is able to generate poison as per his identity as a Cobalt Merfolk. His blood is poisonous, and he's able to generate a potent venom in his spit. Daniel is able to spit this poison to hinder his foes. This venom causes pain in the target and leaves burns if not washed off quickly. It's rarely lethal on its own though. Daniel also uses his poisoned blood as an offensive weapon, particularly favoring spiked knuckles to weaken his enemies and target their muscular system to slow them down. Essentially; if he spits on you, it's going to hurt. And if he bleeds on you, it's going to be debilitating.
LIMITATIONS (Regarding their special ability)
Usual Merfolk weaknesses. Additionally, his Venom's potency is pretty dependent on range and duration. The further away his spit flies, or the longer it's exposed to air, the less effective it is. While painful and debilitating, neither are likely to cause lasting damage on their own, and subjects can recover in about twenty minutes or so depending on their constitution and how much he's laid into them. Can also be easily counteracted by corn starch.
HEIGHT
6'4
BODY TYPE
Well built and muscular, especially for a merfolk. Daniel is a well built fishman with oaktrees for arms or...really angry kelp. He's still working on a suitable aquatic analogy for it.
HAIR
N/A
EYES
Dark Blue, piercing orbs like the void of the ocean itself. (Before all the pollution anyway)
SKIN DETAILS
Pale blue, common for most cobalt merfolk. Rough to the touch- like touching a shark's skin.
NOTABLE FEATURES:
Significant scarring/wounds across his body. His face is one you probably won't forget, if only because he's scratched to hell.
PERSONALITY
Danny is a lot of things, but "well reserved of his opinions" is the furthest away from the truth. Born and raised in the slums of Turner City, Daniel learned from a young age that actions always meant more than words. The merfolk prefers to act instead of talk things out, and tends not to dwell long on how that action is supposed to play out. Direct solutions are a favorite of his, and subtly isn't in his vocabulary.
LIKES
Seafood. Cracking Skulls. Miniature Models (anything is good, but he prefers trucks). Trucks. Stand up comedy. Spiders. Comic Books. "Classic" film. Working out. Any kind of physical contest. Cutting loose. Dark Blue.
DISLIKES
Bullshit, getting tricked. Cats. Peanuts. Eggs. The colour orange. Power tripping jerks. People who talk too much. Bowling. Light Blue.
STRENGTHS
Danny is at his best when there's a literal problem that needs a literal solution. His willingness to put his body on the line and get shit done lets him accomplish a variety of challenges with a surprising amount of grace or gazed elbows. Physically adept and mentally resilient, it's hard to stop Danny once he's set to mind something; and it takes less to set his mind to it in the first place. Despite his brutish nature, he has his quiet moments as well, and he's a surprisingly good listener even if he tends to suggest direct solutions to complicated problems. Thanks to his factory work, he's a damn good welder too.
WEAKNESSES
Any problem that requires anything more than a literal application can get out of hand pretty fast. Not to mention that "Solve problem now" leaves a big gap for "new problem later" to creep up on him. Danny's tendency to crack heads and ask questions never also means he can lack in critical intel or foresight; he's muscle, not a long term thinker. He can be outmaneuvered and outthought without too much effort, unless he's quite zoned in on a task.
Sucker for a pretty face or a sympathetic cause. It's burned him before, and it'll burn him again.
HISTORY
Danny's life has always been a hard one. Honest work for honest pay. And in Turner city, honesty doesn't get you very far at all. From a young age, he flitted between different labor gigs trying to find something he could excel at. He's worked just about everything; steel factories, pulp mills. None of it was exactly steady work, especially when you were always replacable by some new spell or automaton out of a magi workshop. When he turned 16, he found a kind of job that paid well and seemed steady enough; underwater welding. A strange job in the relatively landlocked Turner City, but be it massive cauldrons still roiling in a boil or river work, there was always something who wanted something patched up without having to drag it out from its moorings. But it's consistent work and pays enough to get you an apartment and help pay for your parents place. Danny couldn't ask for much more.
He'd always been close with his family. A small clutch since his bio mom died giving birth to him and his dad remarried pretty fast. Some woulds say suspiciously, but Danny never gave it much thought. If being working class wasn't stress enough, Daniel's Dad ended up settling down with a magi; meaning all of Daniel's 3 siblings are hybrids of some form or another. He loves them all dearly, and is was instilled in him by his dad to be a sort of bulwark and protector; to use his natural strength and abilities to keep them safe and support them to be greater than he could ever be. To this day, they're all on better paths. Apprenticeship, University, anything to get them out of Turner City. Daniel sees his scars as a source of pride; all stains on his body that his siblings would never have to inherit.
Or at least it should have been. Recently, Ariel was murdered. It shook his family to the core, and it changed Daniel's outlook on what that protection meant. There were people out there intent on hurting the people he cared about; and if the rumors out of BC were to be believed, it was only the start. With how crooked the cops in Turner were, Daniel decided that he'd just have to take care of it himself, and on Ariel's name, the merfolk has committed to cleaning up the streets beatdown by beatdown.
Quick notes for family-
Triggoth- Dad, a middle aged factory worker himself. Never got into welding, but flits between jobs to pay for his family's way. "Do the right thing" type and stoic as hell. Rarely changes his mind once he's decided it. Trying to be a pillar for his shattered family.
Amalie- Mom number 2. Thinks of Daniel as one of her own, but there's always been an awkward air about them. She's a water magi who makes a living generating power at a hydroplant. Actually where Danny gets the hotheaded side from and has been raising hell about Ariel's currently unsolved murder.
Marianna- Eldest daughter, and second in line after Daniel. Takes more after their mom, but she can hold her breath underwater for a lot longer than most normal magi can, with a natural affinity for water magic. Aiming to make it big as a house magi.
Ariel- Middle Daughter. Murdered not long after graduating. Word was she was getting involved with gang stuff, but Daniel was convinced he had set her straight. Middling magical ability but the smartest person Danny had ever met. Daniel had set a signifigant portion of his savings aside to help her go to university.
James- Youngest Brother. Still in school. Takes more after their dad than their mom, and has always been pretty inept at magic besides some functional hydromancy. Cares a lot about everything; Danny calls him a crybaby but he's got a pure heart.
EXTRA
Tried and failed to start his own business in the past. It didn't last more than a few months.
Holds local Diner's Record for most Hot Dogs in a row.
Has a moon tail
