CORINA M. FOSTER
and i wish the world wasn't ending,
we don't have forever.
A gloved hand held a device with a glowing screen, words littering the screen. A pale figure looked up at the skyscraper in front of her, marveling at the architectural wonder. She sighed softly, pulling her suitcase with her. It was her first day at the military academy and she hoped she would fit in. Not many in Ethea were called to attend the highly renowned academy in Trov 33. However, it seemed Corina stood out to the leaders of defense and they were in need of her expertise.
Corina recalled the series of events leading to her presence outside of the academy. She worked in a lab on Ethea, furthering her knowledge within the tech field. She liked chemistry-based science, but the technology was important to understand. Ethea was an exporter of technological developments for the military. They ensured the military remained one step ahead of those on Zacaro and had advancements the enemy civilization could not dream of. Her grandparents worked with the military's technology, encouraging their granddaughter to follow their footsteps. However, it took Cori a while to become acquainted and interested in technology. She preferred developing chemical bases for the weapons the military used.
As Corina learned the trade, she stood out from her peers. Despite the short attention span for the military technology, she excelled at developing and implementing ways it could be used. Her background in chemistry was a plus, and suddenly, her grandparents receive a transmission from the head of the science department at the military academy. They requested a meeting with Corina, who gladly accepted the summons. They expressed an attraction to her abilities, inviting her a place on the team. She accepted, wanting to explore the worlds outside of Ethea. Plus, one could not deny an order to aid the ally; she could be found guilty of treason in Ethea and Trov 33.
More information slowly made its way to Corina before she enacted the final steps to attend the academy. She applied for admissions, fulfilled the physicals tasks, and tested high to prove her worth in the science program. She sent documentation of the projects she participated in to further her agenda. They accepted her quickly, beckoning her to Trov. As soon as she was able, Cori left her job, packed two luggage cases, and left her home planet behind. Now, she stood in front of the military academy, terrified out of her mind. She did not think the place would intimidate her, but staring at the vast tower ignited her panic.
Corina took a deep breath, tucking the device away in the pocket of her skirts. She stepped forward, pulling a case behind her. The second case traveled ahead of her, departing with a different group. Delays encountered her journey, postponing her arrival by a couple of hours. She ascended the steps, entering the sliding doors of the academy. She checked into the front desk, stating her business. They ushered her to a backdrop with a camera, taking her luggage. They notified her they intended to take her bag to her room so she could tour the facility. She thanked them. They posed her in front of the backdrop, requesting she smile for her badge.
The printing process for her badge was quick and she fastened it to the fabric of her skirt below one of her pockets. The head of the science department greeted her at the front desk, soon taking her around the facility. They toured the science labs first, knowing that was why she was there. Along with her scientific education, she would learn combat and survival skills. The combat made her nervous, as she never fought anyone or fired a weapon. She only helped in the creation of weapons. However, she knew she was capable to handle the duties required of her.
As their final destination, the head of the science department took her to the gym where the students brawled. The class focused on hand to hand combat, wrestled, or some sat around, cheering on their favorite fighter. Corina walked with her hands folded in front of her, her large eyes taking in the scene. The smell of roses followed her as she walked, noticing heads and eyes perk up as she walked by. She felt exposed but did her best to ignore the stares. The head of the science department stopped, her own footsteps stalling beside her.
"Students, meet Corina Foster. She is the newest member of the academy and the scientific representative of the special ops force we have. I hope you all will be on your best behavior and treat her with respect. To disrespect your fellow member will do you a disservice. Cadets on the spec ops, please introduce yourself to your new member and make her feel welcomed," the scientific head greeted. Corina smiled softly, not really sure if an introduction from herself was necessary. Her eyes caught on a group of three, staring right at her. She wondered who else was on the special ops team as she analyzed the girl with wings, the cyborg, and the olive-toned boy next to them.
