"Since we're about halfway between Portland and Seattle, Pine Mountain exists primarily to keep a steady stream of fresh young hipsters going both ways along the I-5. OK, that may be exaggerating it a little, but you get the idea. The kind of place you leave at 18 and come back to at 24 when you realize your degree in Fine Arts won't pay rent in the big city. About 80,000 people living here, at least a third of the sorry bastards commuting to the big cities. Hour and a half each way, fuck that noise. Can't complain too much though, it's not like this place would last without the two of 'em. Sure, we get a bit of tourist money with the national park, and a few beardy nerds are having a go at that tech startup bullshit, but let's not pretend we don't need that sweet big city money. Mine's a Bud Light, by the way. "

Pine Mountain's not a bad place for an independent-minded Mage to get some work done. The Orders are present but don't really bother much, the city's big enough to have all the amenities and there hasn't been a Seer of the Throne in town since the 80s. Occasional weird lights over the Mountain and vanishing hikers, but that hasn't happened in years. Until last night, of course.
