The Eventyde Festival is a large group roleplay based on a magical mysterious festival hosted at the Grand Eventyde Estates. This festival is a testament to arcane knowledge, divine truths, and discovering one's mettle. Several affluent supernatural guests are invited to participate in the festival and find out what's going on behind the walled world. To protect the identities of each participant all guests must wear a masque while wandering the grounds or playing in the activities.

The magic and mysterium that awaits may baffle some, and bemuse others. There is no telling the outcomes of the many challenges and opportunities to grow in this ever-going festival. There are a few options as a player when joining this game.

option one

Be one of the Guests at the Eventyde Festival, implore your supernatural abilities, and see if you can figure out why you are there and for what reason.

option two

Be a Vendor, Servant, or Performer who has been hired by the head of the estate to give some kind of experience to the guests and owners. You know a little more about the festival in general, but haven't met the owner personally, as the job offer would have been in a newsletter months prior. You can move more discreetly around the grounds than guests, and you also don't have to wear a full mask when in play.

option three

Be a Member of the Eventyde Family, a mysterious and wealthy bunch that are more than meets the eye. You would know the most about the festival, and what the antics of it all are. Depending on storylines you may play in the festival and take part but certain events may not affect you and turn into a different scenario than guests. The only caveat to this option is you are heavily monitored by the estate and any wrong move can see you to an untimely end.

conclusion

Overall this roleplay is a mystery and investigative story where supernatural powers and amazing feats can lead to interesting outcomes and answers to important questions. If you are interested in this idea, let me know!

OOC Signups

  • Welcome to Signups!

The Eventyde Festival is open for signups! Carefully read through each tab, even if you're from the Interest Check as more in-depth information is found in them. Once enough people have created a character for the roleplay I will create the In Character thread for this game. If you have any questions feel free to ask them in this post. GM is @Absyinthe_Artica
  • Roleplay Rules

RULE 001. Follow all IWAKU Terms of Service
We use Iwaku to host this roleplay, so be sure to know the terms of service.

RULE 002. No Powerplay, God Mod, ETC
The GM has total power over the story, however each player controls the characters they create. Unless otherwise discussed with another player, you may not take control of a character that you did not create.

    RULE 003. Respect Fellow Players
Open and Honest communication between the GM and Players allows the story to flow easily and last a lifetime. Please be courteous to your playermates and leave real life drama offline.

    RULE 004. Posting Length: Moderate
I don't expect a novella every post, but please try to include a moderate amount of substance within your replies to the IC Thread.

RULE 005. Posting Speed: Twice a Week
This is not a hard rule, and can be edited for flow and player circumstances. Life can be unpredictable, please just let me know if you're activity will stop so I can appropriately write the scene.

RULE 006. HAVE FUN WITH EXPLORING!
Last rule for all players wanting to join The Eventyde Festival is to have fun and delve into the setting!

    Character Guidelines

    GUIDELINE 001. Pick an Archetype
Choose what Archetype your Character will have; Guest, Vendor, or Family Member. This selection determines how the plot moves forward and gives your character a reason to be at the festival.

    GUIDELINE 002. Character Classes
Once you know what Archetype you will pick, the next step is choosing their Character Class. This class will guide them and grant them certain traits when partaking in the festival activities.

GUIDELINE 003. Arcane Powers & Practical Abilities
Depending on your Character Archetype and Class, they will be able to act out amazing feats in the festival. The combination of Archetype and Class builds grants unique powers and rules for the in-character game state.

    GUIDELINE 004. Time is Weird
The Time and Atmosphere around the entire Estate is warped by ancient magics that conceal, ward, and create an artificial ambience in the various zones. The Eventyde Festival is an eternal revelry dimension where the distortion of time, perception, and appearance happens often.

    GUIDELINE 005. Festival Perks
The Festival Perks are additional mechanics that your character can access and interact with while roleplaying. The idea of the setting is a giant, carnival circus with miles of space and magic to boot. Mixing perks can bring unexpected surprises!

GUIDELINE 006. Game Currencies & Treasure Troves
Tied with the Festival Perks are the Overall Game Currencies that are at play in the IC: Like any good faire there are Tickets, Tokens, and Coins. Coins are all encompassing and can buy tickets and certain types of tokens. Coins are for paying for personal services, bribery, and access. Tickets are used to entertain yourself on the grounds, think of games, rides, and concessions. They can be exchanged for certain tokens, but not coins. Tokens are intriguing items that can be found along the way and do mysterious things to the characters and plot. Most vendors will give you coins for tokens.

The setting is expansive and has many facets that are interconnected with eachother, an inventory system called Treasure Troves is used to keep track of character's rations.

GUIDELINE 007. Character Movement & Actions
There are several ways to get around the festival, your character can traverse the paths, purchase a mount from the stables, or pay for a magical carriage to transport you to a waypoint. Every action is important, and some choices can't be undone once acted upon. The Player Report Page* logs the most important arcs and goals that may pass or be attained in the story.

    GUIDELINE 008. Knowledge is Locked
To keep some things a mystery, certain locations, objects, and npc's are locked behind story beats that must be expressed before they can be unlocked for the player. The story beats are secret melodies that arise in moments pass. The web of The Eventyde Festival spirals deep and sinister forces play in the shadows.

GUIDELINE 009. Discovery of the Unknown
With uncovering the unknown information throughout playing the game, you will earn discovery points for the Collector's Emporium. These points accrue while player's are participating and are measured by successful completions of events. There is a discovery points pool for each player with at least one approved character in the roleplay.

    GUIDELINE 010. Collector's Emporium
The Discovery Points are spent at the Collector's Emporium. The Emporium is filled with art, literature, artifacts, and much more. Items bought from the Emporium can be transferred to the IC for use; like Companions, Weapons, Costumes, etc.

  • The Eventyde Festival

There are five different zones that make up the 16,000 acres that is the Eventyde Estates. More in-depth descriptions of locations are found within the IC, however a brief overview is presented here.

The five broad zones are, The Estate Castle, Festival Gala, Garden of Guests, Eventyde Wilderness, and Champion's Gauntlet. Each zone holds several places to visit or attend, as well as opportunities for event triggers everywhere. Locked locations are marked with three questions marks, and are revealed when requirements are met. The protective ward for the Estates starts at the giant ornate gate that sits at the end of a dreary driveway to nowhere. Many manner of guests attend the festival, so the fashion in which your Character enters the driveway is up to the player. Beyond the gate though, the territories unfold at the GM's whim. There is a magical wall surrounding the area and no escape unless permitted by the family. Once invited to the Festival attending forever is your only option...or is it?

The roads are dusty cobblestone that line the inner workings of the Estate, it is easy for the carriages and mounts to traverse througout the zones and there are many waypoint stations where anyone can hail a ride to another location. The festival is grandiose and can sprawl forever, make note of the distance and time it takes to get between zones.

    Estate Castle Overview
    Introduction

The Estate Castle is a massive enchanting castle set in the middle of the four other zones. It is known as the Festival Hub, and is where the Eventyde Family stays. The butler staff have set up a lobby in the Grand Foyer to direct all guests and vendors to their rightful cottages, or stalls. If you choose to create a Family Member, you are free to reveal the locations that are hidden in the list. Otherwise, a Guest or Vendor wouldn't know about them without exploring.

Here is where you will find The Bestival Stables which house all manner of mounts for those engaging in long distance pursuits, or competitions. Overall, this area is the laxest in rules but don't think you aren't being watched still. Venturing into the Garden of Guests, you may find flora and fauna that are unusual and interesting hedges swirling about the earth. Until then, more information will appear here.

    Eventyde Wilderness Overview
    Introduction

The Eventyde Wilderness is an expansive nature preserve that holds several biomes and stocked full of several wild and caught creatures. It takes up the most square footage on the Estate Grounds, as the Eventyde Family firmly believes in studying and worshipping all forms of life and death. The leafy Entrance Canopy gives way to a courtyard full of "Last Stops" before trekking into the wilds. These "Last Stops" include places to rest and heal, gear for sports and hiking, as well as items to help you navigate the land. The Sporting Hunter provides most ammo and weapons necessary to participate in the Hunts and Rituals. You can also rely on the Hunter for other survival supplies for long stays in this zone. The Champion's Gauntlet is the best place to face your foes, peers, or fears and make a name of yourself. Another large portion of the Estate has been dedicated to this zone, for the sponsorships and hasty bets fuel the wealth hoard that the Eventyde Family sits upon. The Domain Entrance is held up with glistening marble columns that hold flickering torches. Along the left side of the entrance you can check out or purchase battle gear, weapons, and more at the Arena Armoury. Be weary, be ready, and watch your back as you travel through the realm of the Eventyde Festival.

  • Plot Introduction

    Exploring the Setting

One of the main goals for the Eventyde Festival Group Roleplay is to explore the setting at play and uncover secrets in an investigative manner. Certain locations are "known" to all but others must be found while roleplaying to reveal details on the place and what it's purpose is. In the Settings tab, the places that you must roleplay to find are blurred out. (Read if you want to be spoiled)

    Uncovering Hidden Secrets

When you uncover these secrets, you will trigger events and reactions to play out in the IC, and unlock new places, quests, or characters as the scenarios see fit. After the dust has settled and the Arc has moved on from that trigger, new information will appear in the Setting tab for viewing.

    Competing for Glory

The most prevelant factions in the Eventyde Festival are the Cult of Eternal Harvest, and the Guild of Infinite Diverge. As a competitor in the games and tournaments, you will have to choose a faction to represent throughout the festival. This decision is the most important and will effect everything that happens in the IC. The Eventyde family has sponsors in both factions and it is unclear for now why they support these groups. Not much is known about them besides their appearance in public and creeds...

    cult of eternal harvest
    Introduction
The Cult of Eternal Harvest believes that there is a creator entity known as Harviselt, that bestows grand harvests and outstanding miracles to those who worship it. Worshipping this deity means sacrificing the things you love for the greater picture. Reap the rewards of your fruitful efforts and attain ultimate power with the Cult of Eternal Harvest...

    guild of infinite diverge
    Introduction
The Guild of Infinite Diverge believes that there is a creator entity known as Inyses, that bestows infinite wisdom and extraordinary powers to those who worship it. Worshipping this deity means diving deep into the philosophies of eternity and surrending yourself to the endless cycles of life. Uncover the secrets of infinity and pursue your ultimate ideals with the Guild of Infinite Diverge...

    Sinister Intentions

With these two factions coloring the festivities, what sort of reactions would the crowds have if tricks and disaster came right 'round the corner? Why do they want so many folks visiting the Estates anyways? What really is the reason to all the rhyme? Investigating and getting to the bottom of theories may just prove to crack open a pit that consumes all...

    Discover Your Fate

Overall, as a Player Character entertaining this Game Master's ideas, discover the fate that lays within the binds of this tale. Journey through a bewildering and whimsical place that may not be as charming in the light as at night.

  • Character Archetype Introduction

Character Archetypes are the types of characters you can make in this roleplay. There are three core archetypes; Guest,Vendor, and Family Member. Guests are the core component to this roleplay, as they make up the body of the festival. Vendors give the Guests and Family experiences in exchange for fame, fortune, and more. While the Family Members present the shows, host events, and wander the grounds enticing those to join a side. Every archetype has five classes associated with them that color your decisions and give you benefits to certain perks. A list is given below each introduction of the Archetypes.

    Guest Character Archetype

Guests are the most important piece of the festival puzzle and so they are treated with the utmost respect and care by the family. There are many ways you could end up in this dimension, so allow the classes to guide you in inspiration for backstories. Depending on which class you pick, you could either end up being a new faction member, a sacrifice, or a wealthy socialite. The choice is yours.
    Guest Character Classes
    Introduction

The Guest Character Classes are Competitor, Aristocrat, Initiate, Reveler, and Scholar. These five classes aim to shape the ideals and traits your character carries with them throughout the roleplay. As a guest to the festival, you could want to participate for a variety of reasons, and ambition can get you far. Being a winner is the ultimate goal, right?

    Competitor Class

The Competitor Class is for characters that seek out the festival to compete for glory. Their sole focus is participating in the gauntlet and wilderness challenges. Competitors are almost always in all of the events and activities around the zones, eager to prove their worth to the Eventyde Family.

    Aristocrat Class

The Artisocrat Class is for characters that are affluent themselves, they recognize the old century power that lays within the festival realm and try to gain more influence by bumping elbows with the Disciples of the family. Their ambition pushes them to make social moves on a whim.

    Initiate Class

The Initiate Class are Guests who understand some form of the secrecy going on under the guise of amusement and fun. They have heard whispers of the factions granting persons power and influence if one where to be intiated, and thus your goal is to get into the club without becoming a sacrifice.

    Reveler Class

The Reveler Class embody characters who come to the festival for the fun and revelery, they feed into the energies and chaotic events. This guest participates in all of the festivities at their fancy. Taking in the entire atmosphere as a whole entity.

    Scholar Class

The Scholar Class is for characters who are curious and want to understand the inner workings of the festival in general. They may be studying a variety of subjects while participating in the Festival, but their sole purpose is to learn and gain knowledge.

    Vendor Character Archetype

Vendors are the caterers of the entire festival. As stated previously, most Vendors have arrived a month prior to the 'Grand Coronation Night' which was labeled as 'the start of the competition'. Several competitions go on in the realm, so it is not clear to characters what this particular one is for, just which factions are fronting. Vendors can join the Festival once served enough time during their assignments. Depending on which class you pick, your character could be an aspiring chef, a hard-working performer, or even a skilled artisan sitting amongst family members.
    Vendor Character Classes
    Introduction

The Vendor Character Classes are Server, Performer, Artisan, Alchemist, and Merchant. These classes aim to embody the traits of various types of vendors you could find at a magical faire.

    Server Class

The Server Class is for characters who wait on others, serve them food or drinks, and take care of the rest of the people at the festival. They are the least noticed when wandering around on their own and can spot details like a hawk.

    Performer Class

The Performer Class is for characters who perform in the Cirques or Carnivals, as well as other types of performer that may try to compete in the many performances that take place in each zone. It is an honor to be a performer at the festival, it is the highest accolade for most acrobats.

    Artisan Class

The Artisan Class is for those Vendors who create and craft things to sell in the Alleys. Different from Merchants as they sell one of kind pieces that cannot be found in bulk. Depending on your talent and craftsmanship, the two factions could be begging you to join them.

    Alchemist Class

The Alchemist Class are for characters who love to experiment and figure out solutions to problems by creating potions and other alchemical remedies. There is a famous tavern that hires the most eccentric Alchemists to create food and beverages that could wow millions. Otherwise alchemists are useful to apothecarist and other potion needing characters. A dangerous yet rewarding class.

    Merchant Class

The Merchant Class sell bulk items and goods to the guests, other vendors, and family as a whole. These are things like standard weapons and gear, potions and charms, as well as, some niche items. Overall they don't specialize in creating their own wares, just selling ones they happen to find.

    Family Member Archetype

Family Members are the founders of the entire festival. Each family member has their own rank and position amongst the tree, and it is important to note that making one of these characters requires slightly more attention than a guest or vendor. If you make a Family Member Character, the GM will privately message you with secret details for them and how they approach the setting and the consequences that could follow IC if they don't. Depending on which class you pick, your character could be an obedient disciple, a studied master, or even a sneaky spy going against your family members.
    Family Member Character Classes
    Introduction

The Family Member Character Classes are Disciple, Master, Archon, Spy, and Charmer. As a member of the Eventyde family you know a lot about the Estate as a whole and your purpose is to move the plot forward, reveal secrets, or observe among other things. The eyes are always on you as a member, and it should be noted that choices you make could have huge consequences IC.

    Disciple Class

The Disciple Class are the "Children" of the family, they have yet to earn the titles and experience of the Masters. They play in the festival most, and can get carried away with the revelery if not careful. Disciples listen to all those above them and are eager students to the ways of the festival.

    Master Class

The Master Class are the "Parents" in the family, they have studied long and learned the sacrifices it must take to keep the festival ever-going. They know some secrets of the festival, but are sworn to not tell anyone lest they be dealt with. Masters are the main hosts of the festival and take care of a lot of planning and organizing.

    Archon Class

The Archon Class are the "Grand Parents" in the family, and are the respected elders that have been through the festival and know the most about the plot. They are the string pullers and the royalty that really understands the reality of the festival and the two factions fronting it. They are secretive but know fate can cause some things to go awry.

    Spy Class

The Spy Class are the sneaky characters in the family, they have the opportunity to reveal many secrets and spy on their own family members to aid guests and vendors. They are the riskiest character, with their actions causing problems for the higher ups in the family, spies are at the top of the hit list if found out.

    Charmer Class

The Charmer Class embodies charming characters in the family whom go out into the festival and persuade others to join the revelery. They seek those that seem lost and turn them into sacrifices or heroes, depending on the type. They know a few secrets but are generally ambivalent to the dark side of the festival.

  • Powers and Abilities Introduction

A variety of species and beings can find the Eventyde Festival, your character has a lot of options when it comes to their powers and abilities. I am open to things not listed here, as long as a thorough discussion on it can be had. In the festival, you are judged on three core concepts; the Mind, the Body, and the Spirit. With various challenges and events that can effect your character, it is important to choose your skills carefully.

Each player starts with a skill bank of 1500 points that they may divide between the sections of the concepts. For each concept, you can purchase a "Chunk" of experience for 100 points. Every concept has ten levels of experience that you can assign to your character, meaning to be a master in a single concept you would have to spend 1,000 points for all ten chunks of experience. Think of the first chunk as you are a beginner in the concept, having five chunks earns you the journeyman title and gives you a 50% chance at succeeding actions based on that concept, while having all ten chunks earns you the legend title and gives you a 100% of succeeding an action based on that concept.

The "Chunks" are symbolized as masks and an empty bar looks white and a completely full bar is all red signifying the rank in that power or ability. An example of the skill bar is below:

    Empty Skill Bar -

    Full Skill Bar -

Participating in the game accrues more skill points for adding to or creating a new character with even better chances at winning. So don't worry about using all of your bank, as more will come for your activity!

    Mind Skills
    Introduction
The Mind Skills that a character can embody in this roleplay are Wisdom, Charisma, Intellect, and Sanity. These statistics are measured in several ways, and are something the GM keeps track of and alerts players to in the Player Report Page, if there are changes or additions. Your character uses these stats when they focus their brains to solve problems and unique situations that may arise.

    Wisdom: Knowledge and Understanding

Wisdom is about your character's overall capacity for knowledge and learning new things. Can they relay complex information to others and have them understand too? Or do they need to take time to tackle the easiest topics? Spending points in this stat increases the chances for your character's wisdom to shine and aid in the plot.

    Charisma: Persuasion and Charm

Charisma channels your character's persuasion skills and their overall charm when it comes to engaging with players or NPCS. Can they bluff or deceive someone good enough to not bare the consequences of a lie? Are they so enthralling that everyone wants to be near them and talk to them? Spending points in this stat increases the chances for your character's Charisma to capture and hold the entire festival.

    Intellect: Logic and Reasoning

Intellect is your character's ability to reason with situations and discern the truth of matters with logic. Can they solve puzzles and games with ease? Do they approach every problem with a sense of knowing the solution? Spending points in this stat increases the chances for your character's intellect to cut through mind boggling challenges and reasoning with ease.

    Sanity: World Perception and Reaction

Sanity is a unique statistic that measures your character's ability to withstand the magical and mysterious effects of the festival. Can they see through master illusions? Perhaps they are quick to fall into the revelry and lose themselves. Spending points in this stat grants your character clarity and prevents them from falling into one of the many mind traps that are within the grounds.

    Body Skills
    Introduction
The Body Skills that a character can embody in this roleplay are Constitution, Dexterity, Strength, and Prowess. These statistics are measured in several ways, and are something the GM keeps track of and alerts players to in the Player Report Page, if there are changes or additions. Your character uses these stats when they use their body to aid situations. Think of the body skills as the effort in which you can use your character to enact acrobatic feats and to hold strong when met with disaster.

    Constitution: Physical Health and Fortitude

Constitution is about your character's overall health and tolerance for pain and injuries that can occur while competing. Are they easily bruised and can't stand to get even a paper cut? Or do they have the gall to take a sword to the arm? Spending points in this stat increases the chances for your character's to survive the endless festival.

    Dexterity: Movement and Balance

Dexterity is about your character's endurance and agility. Can they perform feats that wow even the greatest acrobats? Or perhaps they are so clumsy they can't walk on their own feet? Spending points in this stat allows your characters to successfully use their body to perform and solve the trickiest problems

Strength: Physical Might and Personal Mettle

Strength is about your character's overall ability to use their might to accomplish tasks. Being strong means lifting and throwing things with ease and gives the character the ability to weild heavier weapons and armor. Spending points in this stat gives your character's more chances to utilize their strength in the roleplay.

    Prowess: Intimidation and Bravery

Prowess is a unique statistic that denotes your character's physical reputation and notoriety around the festival. The magic that swirls the grounds can amplify characteristics and the external presence of your character to others. Spending points in this stat grants your character opportunities to impress or strong arm their way into interesting events without the most dire consequences.

    Spirit Skills
    Introduction
The Spirit Skills that a character can embody in this roleplay are Aura, Mana, Morph, and Divine. These statistics are measured in several ways, and are something the GM keeps track of and alerts players to in the Player Report Page, if there are changes or additions. Your character uses these stats when they empower themselves to do amazing things. Think of the spirit skills as the essence of your character's soul and magical power. These skills also gives characters the ability to call upon the festival's deities.

    Aura: Energy Field and Potency

Aura is your character's energy field and overall spiritual presence within the festival. Can they see and understand others aura? Maybe they can manipulate the fields around them? Spending points in this statistic not only amplifies your character's aura, but it gives them opportunities to accurately channel their spiritual energy.

    Mana: Magic Ability and Power

Mana is the resource pool for your character's magical abilities. It gives power to spells and incantations and other magical ingredients(potions, etc). The more you spend in this stat the greater amount of mana your character has to use in a festival week. Every IC week your mana automatically replenishes to the max points possible. Mana can also be paired with physical movement for special effects.

    Morph: Illusions and Transformation

Morph is your character's overall ability to transform and change not only their shape but others (NPCS) Some activities require your character to morph into a creature or plant to win the prize. The more points you spend in this stat the better your transformations become.

    Divine: Faith and Fealty

Divine is the character's ability to see and call upon the deities that surround the festival. There are many as the factions take over different themes when the Tyding begins. It allows your character to call upon a god or goddess and have their aid at times in the plot. It also is your character's reputation with the divine bodies that govern the festival. Spending more points in this statistic boosts your renown with the faiths that be, and grants boons and blights to those most favored.
