Charlotte frowned. "I'm sorry. About your mum," she clarified. She couldn't imagine what she would have done without a mother in her childhood. She also couldn't imagine what her father would be like, either. Probably not as cold or distant as Dalton's father apparently was, but he would most likely have been an emotionless void. Alex would have probably taken over.
She leaned over the table and put her hand over his, looking up at him sincerely. "I'm sure she'd have been very proud of you," she promised him. How could she not have been? He was leading in a field of something he loved and was excellent at. What wasn't there to be proud of?
